She never broke up with the step brother as far as I know of. I've never seen anything about them dating.

That is exactly what a bar hold is. Your arm is the bar that is forced upon the neck.

I know. I picture him above her with his weight bearing on the arm. On the bed most likely. It could have been from behind though too.

she'd have a better chance though if standing than him on top of her with his full body and weight, etc.

Hate talking so graphic but it's what it is.

I would also imagine she fought back in any way she could. I expect she will have his DNA under her nails I'd think. I wonder if he had any injuries...

You know, I am sticking with this being a very bad decision by the parents, a fatal one, but at times I can believe some real naivete was part of it... But I mean do they live in the real world and pay attention to things?? These are teen stepchildren thrown together... Reportedly, Shauntel claims they tried to keep her older son from jumping out of a car because she would not let him stay with his girlfriend. He was 18 it seems, the one who lives with dad by choice. Yet Shauntel THEN lets her 16 year old son share a room with 18 year old Anna? That doesn't make any sense to me... In one case, she says no way and in the other she throws the kids together in a small stateroom...

I blame both parents that were on the cruise for the situation to be able to happen. My girls both had very close male friends that went with us many places and I would never, ever think of them not being in the same room as I was in, especially when they got older. Even when it was with their cousins. No matter how well those kids got along, or not, this was not a smart plan at all.

I don't think they would have called it that if it was from behind, unless it happened with her facing down. Your weight doesn't bear down from behind. The bar and weight is how bar hold gets it's name.

I think you know I agree. I've said it with my daughters and stepson. They are all GOOD kids and I would never create or cause such a situation. They are still teens, unrelated. None of us have raised teens before before we did and still we know that--we were teens ourselves is one way parents should know that... Three marriages? A babysitter? Her dad should definitely KNOW that. Probably didn't care one bit or worry about it.

And it's one thing with teens who MIGHT be attracted to one another, that's risky enough, but in this case, he reportedly was obsessed with her and she was scared of him.

Every which way from Friday this was just wrong.

Yeah I agree. I saw some people (not on here but in YT comments, etc.) though thinking it was from behind like while standing. I mean you could still bar the throat that way, but I think he was on top of her.

Well it is what the cause of death says... Or manner... I get such mixed up lol.

Another evil move is kneeling on a chest with full body weight.

Yeah, this 16 year old just doing the things said, even prior, was clearly trouble and it is hard to buy mom and stepdad did not know it... He also clearly had not a stable life, look at his parents going at each other in court... I'm not excusing him whatsoever but am saying what a messed up bunch...
 
I never finished listening to the one I linked here before I kind of fell off for the day. Listening to the rest of it now and man......

I understand the FBI is going to do this right as to arrest and not going to say anything either but it irks me this "kid" is free. I mean I guess he is not in a way by staying with a relative and probably hiding out as well but still not under arrest...

The other overwhelming feeling I can't let go of is how Anna had her whole life ahead of her, was going to graduate this year and despite this messed up family thing/dynamics, was a great student and from all accounts, going somewhere with her life.

So sad.

I am wondering whether there were interviews of the 16 year old without a legal rep. If he was as upset as we are hearing then what he said may not be admissable, especially if he is having memory problems now.

No. He is a stepbrother. They share no parents. No blood. Her dad married his mom. Both are from prior marriages in the case of each.

I don't think that I've heard that, his upset/memory problems but then been a bit behind last day or two. Can you tell me more?

I have wondered if mom let her talk to them without her. His being a minor changes things up some.

Lol, no. It is confusing I know. I'm not having trouble with it but then I was early on following it all.

Just take the one that raised Anna out of the equation. This wife is recent, she did not raise her.

And these kids were not raised together. Does that help?

Anna DOES have a 14 year old brother who was on the cruise who the stepmom you are thinking of helped raise along with Anna, but he is not the suspect. He did share the room though too. He was out of the room when it happened.
