Barbara Kepner, the grandmother of Anna Kepner, 18, who was found dead on a Carnival cruise ship, offered new details into the ongoing investigation into her murder.
On Monday, her grandmother Barbara told Good Morning America that her family were stunned that Anna's stepbrother, who has not been named, was accused.
'They were like brother and sister, he was a good student,' she said. 'He played soccer, and is a very quiet young man.'
Barbara said that he 'had demons in his past and was trying to deal with those', and revealed that he broke down when confronted by investigators.
'I heard him say in his own words that he does not remember what happened,' she said.
'During (his police interview) he was an emotional mess, he couldn't speak, he couldn't believe what happened.'
It’s very confusing.

2nd wife is Tabitha - Stepmother and the one who raised Anna.
3rd wife is Shauntel - Stepmother and the mother of 16 year old suspect

This is the first time I see that the grandparents of Anna were on the trip and the family had 3 separate staterooms. Maybe it was mentioned before. idk

The Kepners, their son, his three children, including Anna, his new wife, and her children from a previous marriage, took the trip together. It was to be a new tradition they were looking forward to keeping, Jeffrey Kepner said. The three generations had three staterooms on the ship.
“The two younger girls stayed with the parents and then the three teenagers, they decided amongst themselves they wanted to stay in the room together. But we had a larger room and we made it very clear that at any time if they weren't getting along, they didn't want to be together, we had an extra bed in our room that they could come to,” Barbara Kepner said.

So did he have 3 wives within the space of just 2 years or were some born out of wedlock, because there is only 2 years difference between Anna and the suspect?

The suspect is not her brother. He's a step brother. The child of the victims stepmother.
The victim and the suspect are not related, other than by marriage.

I apparently didn't see this post, been a bit of a weekend here.
If not already answered, I don't know. There's been no mention of the younger kids on the cruise, just the teens and parents in anything I've seen. Anna's brother was definitely with, he is the 14 year old.

They'd been split up he said about six months. I've heard she was 17 and he 15 I think. To be clear I am talking of her ex bf, not her alleged murderer stepbrother. Just to keep it clear in the thread since the various families and kids make it a bit confusing.

It is a bit different though than kids having an entirely separate room, possibly rooms away, and the kids having their own keys to that room.
Either way, there's a total lack of supervision here.

I'm behind so someone probably already answered this but no, I don't think so. She was 18, the alleged murdering stepbrother was 16, then her full brother, 14.

A bar hold is imo the forearm. You know if you are leaning on the bottom of your arm? From your elbow to your hand?
I guess I pic him doing that from on top of her just probably because he was allegedly on top of her once in their home. It would also be a position from which to try to get clothes off or rape sadly. That's what I envision. Of course she could have been trying to run from him and he did a bar hold catching her from behind as well...

Well her dad was married 3 times and the first time was to her bio mom. Second time was to a woman who allegedly he had an affair with when she was 15, the kids' (Anna one of them) babysitter. Then he married this current woman.
The current wife then also has kids and an ex and is in a custody battle over her kids.

Her grandparents I know were on a previous cruise I believe, are you sure people aren't mixing the cruises up...?

Whoa. I wondered if all the kids were with and the younger two might have been with the parents... There are two age 9 I think, one from each of the "parents" here. I also doubt ALL of her kids were with as the 18 year old stays with the dad but all the minors probably were though...
You know, I am sticking with this being a very bad decision by the parents, a fatal one, but at times I can believe some real naivete was part of it... But I mean do they live in the real world and pay attention to things?? These are teen stepchildren thrown together... Reportedly, Shauntel claims they tried to keep her older son from jumping out of a car because she would not let him stay with his girlfriend. He was 18 it seems, the one who lives with dad by choice. Yet Shauntel THEN lets her 16 year old son share a room with 18 year old Anna? That doesn't make any sense to me... In one case, she says no way and in the other she throws the kids together in a small stateroom...

He had 3 wives starting when young though. The suspect is no blood relation to Anna, he is a stepbrother. Son of the woman her dad married the 3rd time.
I get how it can be confusing.
