Anna Kepner, a teenager who was found dead on a Carnival Horizon cruise ship this month, died by asphyxiation resulting from a bar hold -- an arm across the neck -- a source briefed on the investigation told ABC News on Friday.
Investigators also found two bruises on the side of her neck, the source said.
The FBI has continued to decline to comment, citing the ongoing investigation. The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office declined to comment Friday.

Passenger who died on Carnival cruise ship identified as 18-year-old, family says​

According to the source, the preliminary information indicates there were no signs of sexual assault and there did not appear to be drugs or alcohol in Kepner's system. Autopsy and toxicology reports that could confirm those details have not been completed.
The 18-year-old cheerleader from Titusville, Florida, was reported dead while aboard the Carnival Horizon cruise ship on Nov. 8.

Kepner was found dead under a bed, wrapped in a blanket and covered by life vests, according to a security source briefed on the investigation.

A court filing in an unrelated family court matter noted Kepner's stepsibling could face charges.
The filing said the FBI is conducting an investigation "arising out of the sudden death of 18 year old Anna Kepner."
Shauntel Hudson -- Kepner's stepmother, who was also on the cruise along with her children and Kepner's father -- requested a delay in her custody hearing because one of her minor children may face criminal charges, according to the filing.

Maybe she was grabbed from behind with his arm around her neck. I don’t know if that is what a bar hold is.

So the brother heard an altercation or at least the stepbrother raging. And he was locked out of the room? Great supervision yet again if he couldn't even get in his own room. So he could hear the altercation but the parents didn't? So are the rooms even near each other or were the parents maybe out until late or something?

On another show, I saw a part of the hearing, I'd like to see it all but didn't have a chance to figure out where that would be and didn't catch it. I heard father's side claim there was drinking by the kids and the mother's side saying doesn't know what they were talking about, there was no drinking, etc. Again I'd like to see it all or at least that part. I may go back to the show I saw it on to find out which station the clip was from.

This article says there was video evidence he was not drinking?? They can't have video evidence of him every moment of the cruise nor of him in the room...

I'm betting the father's version is right and they let at least the two older kids drink on this trip.

Id say her custody is at big risk right now. There is clear evidence she did not make the best decisions for her kid in this case for sure.

I feel for Anna's brother. He is going to live with this and he probably wishes he hadn't left the room.

At this point I’m skeptical of the things people are saying, including ex-boyfriend and attorneys. They all have an ulterior motive and it doesn’t seem like it was the welfare of Anna.

I don't know if I think ex bf has a motive, he seems upfront and a bit young and such to me but could be.

The attys in the custody case definitely have a motive. To spin it the best for each of their respective clients, etc. I'd say though stepmom's decisions just gave dad the upper hand in the custody fight unless something makes him truly unfit.

That's what I interpreted a bar hold to be. Difficult to escape from and it asphyxiated her.

They could also do this though while on top of someone, I hate to say it but picture while he is trying to undress her he puts his arm across her throat with his weight on it too.

She was supposedly nude.

While so far there may be no evidence of a sexual assault, my guess is it was still part of his intent. Jmo.

I am just going by what was in the ABC article i posted until there are more details. I had not seen anything about her being naked but I may just be behind.

Kimster's link said there was no sign of sexual assault. Wouldn't nakedness be a sign of sexual assault?

I agree. Maybe mom of Anna should go for custody. I believe they share other kids as it is said Anna has two full blooded siblings, the one on the boat and a 9 yr old sister.

It's getting hard for me to remember where all came from but I think it was the uncle's post who said her nude beaten body under the bed, wrapped in a blanket, with lifejackets, etc.
 
I am not even going to try to find many words for this other than to say this bit. The family dynamics here by the day just get worse and worse. I don't have it in me to find the news outlets reporting this but he is reading from news outlets. Dad's second marriage was to someone who was a 15 year old former babysitter of Anna and her brother when they were little. Not 15 when they married but was when it started if I have it right. Also Anna's bio mom filed something against him when Anna was little I won't go into. Listening to the vid will tell it, explain it...

 
I'm honestly too tired to even process the above and this very mixed up multiple marriages and kids by just dad without adding in the rest. Maybe someone else can process it and understand it better than I can right now.

Poor girl. Her entire life ahead of her but stuck in this messed up situation.
 
Quite a bit in that. I'll just say for one thing that dad was allegedly having an affair with the 15 year old babysitter of Anna and her brother who he then married a couple of years later. The second wife...

I just can't process right now so I will come back to it later today when I can.
