A disturbing investigation is underway in Brooklyn into a possibly missing 11-year-old boy who has never attended public school.

While the child's mother denies the boy is in her apartment located at 614 Howard Ave. in Brownsville, the NYPD says a K-9 cadaver dog got a hit on the refrigerator for human blood.

Investigators are now waiting for a search warrant to more thoroughly examine the home.

Officials say that when ACS was initially called to the apartment on reports of child abuse, they say the mother denied even having a child. However, ACS has recovered a birth certificate with the woman as the listed mother.

"The safety and well-being of New York City's children is our top priority. As soon as this family came to our attention, we launched an investigation with the NYPD," an ACS spokesperson said.

On Wednesday, the agency called police to help with a welfare check.

Jacob was no where to be found.

According to law enforcement sources, who spoke to neighbors, they say it appears that the child, who has autism, has been missing for several "weeks."

Neighbors say they have rarely ever seen the boy.

There's no record of him attending public schools and there's no record of him anywhere.

A man said he had not seen the boy in years but remembers him having autism.

Another neighbor said he heard the mother yell.

"Yelling, it seemed like she was talking to somebody," he said.

"He's lived here all his life - my boyfriend - and he said he's only seen the kid a couple of times," neighbor Lay Givens said.

They say police have taken the 50-year-old mother into custody.

When conducting their search, they also discovered there was no electricity in the apartment.

"It's disturbing that people don't take care of their kids or harm them if that's the case," another neighbor David Alcantara said.

Police searching for Brooklyn boy, 11, missing for three weeks: sources​

Police are searching for an 11-year-old autistic Brooklyn boy who has been missing for around three weeks after receiving a tip about his disappearance this week, according to sources.

The Administration for Children’s Services called the NYPD on Wednesday to conduct a wellness check at the boy’s Brownsville home on Howard Avenue, but the child was not in the apartment, police said Friday.

Officers found the boy’s mom in the unkempt apartment and took her to the hospital for evaluation, sources said. The mom has not been charged.

The home has been sealed off as a crime scene while authorities work to determine if there is anything suspicious about the boy’s disappearance, sources said.

A spokesperson for ACS could not immediately say if there was a history of abuse in the home or why they alerted the police.

“The safety and well-being of New York City’s children is our top priority. As soon as this family came to our attention, we launched an investigation with the NYPD,” an ACS spokesperson said in a statement.

Police are looking for a missing 11-year-old boy in Brownsville.

Authorities tell us the Administration for Children's Services (ACS) requested a wellness check around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police arrived to the scene shortly after and are still looking for the child.

Neighbors tell News 12 that they called authorities after not seeing the boy for a while.

No picture has been made available. NYPD officers are stationed inside the building on the floor where the mother and child live, as well as outside the building.

Police are in contact with the mother during this investigation.

Howard Avenue property management released the following statement:

“We are deeply concerned by the events unfolding in our community. We will continue to support our community and the NYPD throughout this challenging time, and our highest hope is for the ultimate safety of the missing child."

A spokesperson from the ACS says, "The safety and well-being of New York City's children is our top priority. As soon as this family came to our attention, we launched an investigation with the NYPD."

A search is underway for a missing 11-year-old boy in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

The New York City Police Department says officers were called to Howard Avenue on Wednesday afternoon to help with a welfare check, but the boy was nowhere to be found.

Police sources tell CBS News New York the child's mother was taken in for questioning, but has so far been uncooperative.

Neighbors we spoke with said they believe the mother has been living there for about four years and may suffer from mental health issues.

CBS News New York reached out to the Department of Education and Administration for Children's Services for more information about the case.

According to the NYPD, someone called ACS on Wednesday to conduct a wellness check on Pritchette, who has autism.

Once officers arrived, they searched the home but did not find the boy. Officials, however, determined there was no electricity in the apartment while an NYPD K-9 cadaver dog got a hit on the refrigerator for human blood.

Police later took a 50-year-old woman believed to be his mother into custody. At the time, ACS recovered a birth certificate with the woman as the listed mother. The woman had initially denied being the child's mother.

Sources say the boy has never attended public school, while neighbors tells Eyewitness News they haven't seen him in weeks.

"I would always see a little boy in the window playing with his toys by himself making noise, and since all of this has taken place, I realized to myself like, the boy is not in the window no more. I haven't seen him like all summer," said Crystal Burrell, a neighbor. "All summer, he has not been in the window, so it's a sad situation."

As of Friday morning, Prichette's mother was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Denied having a child, no public school record and LE actually had to secure a birth certificate, that may be a new one... Soust nds like to date she's been uncooperative.

Most neighbors talk like they had only seen him rarely or a handful of times but the one woman always saw him in the window playing until the beginning of summer it sounds like, once she realized she hadn't seen him recently.

Cadaver dog hit on the frig. I imagine it's not running with no electricity.

Getting a warrant to search further.

I'd never recall the case but I recall I believe in some part of NY a woman keep a dead child in the closet for years. I'd speculate that if no power, she also has no private mode of transport so to dispose of him, it would likely be at the complex, in her apartment, the dumpster, etc.

Since he seemed no to exist for the most part on paper, in school, etc. it is fortunate someone called for a welfare check, or there was someone to do so. One would think she would have been receiving some help from the county, etc...

Mental health issues are mentioned however I'd say she knows enough to be uncooperative, to lie about his existence or that she had a child and so on.

I'd say there's little hope he is alive. If he was with a relative or his father or some such, one would think she'd say so plus there was that cadaver dog hit.

Police have released a sketch of a missing Brownsville boy who has been missing for weeks, according to sources.

The 11-year-old, now identified as Jacob Pritchett, was the subject of a wellness check by the NYPD at his Brownsville home on Howard Avenue on Wednesday after the Administration for Children’s Services requested the check-up.

Officials said the boy is non-verbal and unable to provide identifying information.
