NICK CORDOVA: Murdered in Gilbert, AZ on 27 May 2020 - Suspects still at large!

nickcordova.jpg

I think I had only and maybe heard a blip about this case. I just watched a podcast of Linda - It's a Crime which I will share here. Tyson Draper asked her to cover it and I know Tyson spends time in AZ. Interestingly, when I did a quick internet search after watching Linda's podcast, I am not seeing much on this crime for news of any kind but I did not yet look in depth.

One key thing is there is a very, very clear photo of one of the alleged suspects right after the murder at a gas station. These podcasters are asking that all that can share it, on FB and everywhere, to family in AZ if you know people there and just get it out there in the public.

Nicholas Cordova murder case: Silent Witness, police ask for help to identify suspect

Silent Witness is asking for help from the public as Gilbert Police continue to investigate an incident in 2020 that led to the death of Nicholas Cordova.

Cordova's family took part in a news conference on the case on the afternoon of Feb. 27.

What they're saying:

"Information obtained from tips will help lead investigators to better understand what happened on May 27, 2020, when Nicholas unnecessarily lost his life near 500 West Guadalupe Road," read a portion of the statement. "With detectives searching and family still in mourning, community involvement may be the missing puzzle piece needed to fully understand that happened in this case."

Gilbert PD announces new reward in murder of Nick Cordova

A new reward has been announced as Gilbert police search for the person who shot and killed Nicholas Cordova. A police report obtained by ABC15 says the 40-year-old father of two was at his air conditioning business and on Facetime with his kids when the shooting happened in May 2020.

The police report for Nick’s case is hundreds of pages long and said the only other person at the office when the police arrived was Cordova's business partner. The report said the partner, who ABC15 is not naming, told police on scene that "two guys" had come into their building and ultimately ran from the scene. Police noted that there appeared to have been a struggle in part of the office.

Police took time to canvas the area and show neighboring businesses the picture of a red F-150 truck they believed was driven by the suspects.

Just weeks after, Gilbert Police released surveillance video and a picture of one of the suspects. Nearly five years later, there have still been no arrests in the case.

"I think was there something I didn’t know?" said Alysha. "And I’ve said this in interviews, I knew my husband and he wasn’t involved in any criminal activities. And there’s no one that would have wanted him dead."

ABC15 reached out to Nick's business partner on Thursday to ask if he wanted to speak with us. He told our team he cooperated with police and described that night as a "horrible situation". He didn't agree to an interview but said he wanted the people responsible to be caught.

Nick’s partner also said the situation could have been a robbery.

Evidence gathered from the scene was detailed in the police report and included envelopes with cash, various phones, and even a potato.

Nick's family and Silent Witness are offering a $20,000 reward for information in the case. Police stressed that any information, no matter how small, should be brought to their attention.

Gilbert Police was at Thursday’s press conference, but Alysha expressed frustration with the department.

“It's hard knowing there are leads and things that we’ve been told and nothing happening," said Alysha. "I do feel like Nick’s case has been brushed under the rug."

ABC15 reached out to Gilbert Police with questions, but they wouldn't answer them. We were told they are limited on what can be released.

"We recognize it has been a long and painful five years for Nick Cordova’s family as we have steadily combed through every lead, looking for answers. The Gilbert Police Department is committed to solving this case and bringing the involved individuals to justice."

This is another case that I thought would be solved quickly. I hope law-enforcement knows more than they’re letting on.

It has been awhile since there is little on it these days but I looked at this one quite a bit back when. I watched a YTer who the wife did talk with, looked at a few things, including the business partner, etc. I likely said a bit about some such back on this thread but not going to go try to find such.

In an odd way, it is like Delphi but not but meaning in Delphi Libby got a video and in THIS case, the family was on the other end of like a FT call with Nick when he was attacked and killed. All there's ever been I think that's been said is a gas station video of a man who has never been identified and a red truck and yet the perp/s have never been found.

I have my opinion and I'm not sure if they have real info to even point to this truck or unknown man other than from the business partner who was there. Even if the pics are of a truck and perp who were truly involved, I haven't cleared the partner. It's just a bit too odd for me and he definitely is no saint.

Imo there are things we don't know. Of course there are in any case but more than that imo in this one. Something financial maybe or not above board. I don't mean necessarily by Nick but maybe by whoever killed him or had him killed as the case may be.

Of course I am just speculating.

I hope too they have more than we know and they wrap this up soon. It's largely silent and it is TIME they either share more or charge it IF they know more. Imo. Almost FIVE years now...

Nick Cordova's widow wants Gilbert Town Council to intervene in the police investigation

Getting an update from the police chief about a yearsold unsolved murder wasn’t on the agenda at the Gilbert Town Council meeting on Tuesday. Yet after being summoned by the mayor, the chief spoke of the case while the victim’s widow, mother and other family waited to address the council during time for public comment.

Chief Mike Soelberg said state and federal law enforcement are involved in an active investigation seeking justice for Nick Cordova.

He was shot and killed inside his Gilbert business in 2020.

Soelberg acknowledged the family’s grief in waiting but said there are critical limits to what details he can share.

“And we deeply regret that the necessary restrictions on releasing details may compound frustration. However, every measure we take is to ensure accountability for this devastating loss,” Soelberg said.

Cordova’s wife, mother and other family wore T-shirts with one of his old sayings, FudgeYa.

Widow Alysha Cordova said the case is on its fourth detective, her family has been failed and told council members to intervene.

“You guys oversee the Gilbert Police Department. It is your responsibility to make sure that they do their jobs. That they investigate. That they pursue the truth. And they are not doing that. They have proved their incompetence to do so,” she said.

The department’s competency has been questioned since late 2023 when reports exposed that unchecked teen violence by a group called the "Gilbert Goons" preceded the fatal beating of Preston Lord.

Cordova’s mother, Theresa, responded to the chief’s comments during the Town Council meeting.

“With all due respect to Gilbert PD showing up today and making a statement, words are just words we’ve heard for the last five years,” she said.

Usually a city council cannot intervene due to the nature of an investigation, but if there are departmental issues involving disorganization or rapid changes in staff, they can certainly ask questions.

Well it's hard to ignore that Gilbert wasn't great with Charles/Lori, etc. I followed this one quite a bit & always knew was same dept. Never have forgot.

They may truly have their reasons tho. Hard to say, & that is the problem, families don't know if truly being worked on or not, or if they r just saying so.

Have my opinion in this one but not sure if an addl person or more than 1.

A $20k reward was issued on this case last month. I don't understand why they can't even trace the red pick-up. Wasn't there video from the gas station?

If I recall there was with pics of two men. Nothing much again if I recall has ever come forward on eithe man. Not that the public or family knows anyhow. My guess is illegals but i sure don't know.

There is some stuff out there not so much about them...

His partner was there when it happened... Kind of odd. He has some history if one wants to look.

If you get in the mood to dive, there is some more out there. Not about the men. NOT that the men didn't exist. No idea.

Not claiming to know as there's been no charges or any solving of it...

Do have an opinion though go figure lol.

Fairly certain about one thing but not the other but do wonder.

Probably sounds cryptic but I honestly don't know but do have an opinion.
to
And even though Gilbert, they could be holding back as to who is involved. OR they are because they aren't doing their job.. I guess that's anyone's guess.

I am kind of dancing around this and I've done it before but it comes from what we experienced. Imo they do have to clear family friends relatives business partners you name it and the prosecutorial side generally doesnt share BUT THEY WILL "some" with family if cleared and so on. No expert but one learns some things if ever going through anything like any murder but diff stats etc. who knows...

i do think the fact it is Gilbert is notable BUT look, they came through later with apparently enough to charge Lori...

Hard to say, I get opinions though. In some cases strong ones. Not even saying it is about Gilbert, hard to say but I am pretty sure who one was... But then we form opinions from only what is shared, none nof us know all...

Nick Cordova's family pushing for answers five years later

The Cordova family continues to have different questions about the investigation, since years have passed with no arrests. In the last few months, they have been making "Noise for Nick", hoping it will lead to answers in his case.

"It's been five years of a nightmare," said Nick's mom, Theresa Cordova. "It doesn’t get easier."

In the last few months, the Cordova family has taken to social media to raise awareness about their loved one's case. They have also worked to raise the Silent Witness reward, even speaking out at the Gilbert Town Council.

"We've let them have their time to give us answers for the last four years and now we’re just tired of it," said Quick. "They haven’t given us anything."

The family feels there is more that the Gilbert Police could do. While a report has been released, they have been asking why surveillance video from inside Nick's business was never released. Alysha only recently saw that video personally after pushing police. But she is currently still waiting on records requests, including body camera video, that she requested in 2024.

This week, the community jumped into action as the family launched a phone tree on Tuesday.

"I said, why don’t we have everyone call in on a specific day and just flood the Gilbert PD phone lines," said Alysha.

Dozens called a non-emergency line, asking about Nick’s case. That's something ABC15 has also done. In March, Gilbert Police said in a statement they are working with state and federal agencies, but wouldn’t tell us who or what specific work has been done recently on the case.

We read one of the statements police sent to the Cordova family, which said Gilbert PD was following up on all leads and staying in constant communication with their family.

I'd' like to note for anyone unaware of it this is Gilbert AZ again, same as in a Daybell case that didn't seem to get on their job and so on.

I've been aware of that for some time but been some yrs so thought I'd mention it if anyone not aware or newer would read.

I have my opinions on this one and this case imo has NEVER gotten a ton of attn. Like nationally or online and such I mean as some do. I used to watch a YTer that the wife here did talk with, he quit I think with YT since or isn't on much but let's just say I have seen a lot and did some dives even into who was who and the lives and so on. Back when.

I have one thing I wonder about I have never voiced and won't unless gets more sure if ever.

I have said though a few things that I will go there with I believe, not going to look back, just can't manage lately.

I mean this man was killed while basically on a Facetime or some such call with his family/kids. His boss
or partner was it was THERE... He didn't end up dead luckily... Or interestingly...

I only have one thing Im undecided on...

Latest article I could find.

Interesting article. First let's keep in mind it is Gilbert who already had a bit of a black eye. Second of all, it is very hard for families, and we were advised to keep silent and man it is a very hard thing to do--and that's what most Ps do but then families and others think the PD is doing nothing and sometimes they are, sometimes maybe they are not. Then family worries, we did, if they cant hold it in, they will ruin the chances of justice for their loved one.

Clearly they are past where they are going to stay silent.

Sometimes LE may suspect family or not have cleared all which can play in I think with what they share or do not share.

Dylan Round's mom in recent years (as well as others) would be an example of she wasn't going to take it, things not getting done. I went kind of both ways on it because I know the "drill" but also understand the need to have something done.

Our system needs to change. Imo.

And again, this is Gilbert.... They better get with it. Imo. It's very hard on victim families. Murders aren't normal deaths.

I recommend reading Reddit if you want some answers. That's where I went but i am not posting on here as I don't know how accurate it all is.

Think of Alex getting hit on the head when he shot Charles so i am wondering if it was some sort of similar thing. In this case, the partner got hit on the head didn't he but Nick got a bullet in the head. Yet there appeared to be no robbery or even a motive.

Was Moffat the investigating detective, i wonder?

I'll say this much--I've never been much on Reddit but I have followed some other things on this case and there is stuff out there about the partner and it may be what you are seeing people are repeating.... Yep partner there and comes out fine.... Any guesses what I think there as well?? Partner has also had some other things of interest.... Some have dug up. Perhaps you are seeing what I did some years ago but I didn't see it on Reddit...

Not even sure myself the "hitmen" were real....

I have one other thing I wonder about, I'm pretty sure about some.... Also just not going to go there yet... Some cases I'll say what I think, others, it kind of depends... And I'd probably have to refresh on a bit too but yah, same wavelength here, and I can point you to a Youtuber who did some dives and such. Like I said though, you may be encountering the same on Reddit as I saw some years back, same talk, etc...

Imo it is pretty obvious the deal here, just saying....

The only thing that throws me is the Facetime call. Did he or they never know he could be on one--or was it wanted he be on one.... With children no less..... Yet it caught nothing that has solved this case.... Kind of a big hmm to mee and I am undecided on it...

I'm kind of weaving here as well... Just not going to go a few places mostly as not sure....

But yeah on same page as far as for sure one who is likely guilty. And yeah it is Gilbert. Moffat as you said? I'd have to look back lo, who knows... The person I watched on it well, did know both cases.... I will leave that there.

Family frustrated with progress of case 5 years after Gilbert murder

A Valley widow is demanding answers after her husband was shot and killed at work in Gilbert five years ago to the day on Monday and no arrests have been made.

Alysha Cordova and her two children have had plenty of family and friends to lean on for support during the five years since Nick Cordova’s murder. What they don’t have is the answer to why he was taken in such a violent way.

“I love you, Nick, and I miss you so much and I’m going to continue to push for justice for you,” Alysha said during a balloon release at the Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale. The memories of what happened on May 27, 2020, are still vivid.

Frustrated with the progress of the cold case, the family is now considering hiring a private investigator. “Honestly, I just feel kind of defeated,” Alysha said. “The Gilbert Police Department had not done Nick justice. There are so many unanswered questions.”

That’s why Nick’s family continues to gather. They want to keep his story alive as the search for his killer or killers continues. “We’re going to continue to keep pushing forward for justice for him,” Alysha said.

The Gilbert Police Department has recognized that it’s been a long five years for the Cordova family. The department stresses it is committed to solving the case and bringing those responsible to justice.

Step UP and do your JOB GILBERT. They tried to cover all their mistakes in Daybell and did that fairly well but they need to do their freaking JOB.

Five YEARS is long enough with no answers. DO SOMETHING. I mean seriously, how worthless are ya?

[They have so many black eyes people should be screaming.]

From the reddit link there are two lìnks with more info.

Something is very strange regarding this case. I hope the 5th Gilbert detective who ends up investigating can resolve the motive for the killing as well as catch the perp.
