Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Yep what would you do if the worst of criminals? Run back and forth when necessary through and open border imo. And a new thing has come about these past few years in that our own people and news won't even tell us in a case if the perp IS an illegal immigrant...
 
There is another new case out of Colorado. The mom killed two of her children and injured her third and herself (self probably surfaced and faked) and then called in a robbery. When cops got there, two children were dead and they whisked mom and older daughter to hospital. Mom released and police had no probable cause at time to arrest but within short order did. Mom was gone though and is on the run. She is still at large last I knew. Back story, nasty lengthy divorce and subsequent custody case. I'd like to see a thread on this one but not sure if I can do it and hope a mod can? Do we put up the murders of the children or the mother at large as the case title, etc.?

You said you didn't do that well Ubering that night or as well as you'd hoped. This is a good reason to not Uber on New Year's. A concert would be a likely place to have a fare from or stage near no?

Your passengers could have been hurt had you had any not to mention other stupid drunken drivers out on New Year's.

In first read of headline and info, etc, I'd have guessed drunken New Year's Eve partier but an explosion and gas cans would seem to say otherwise. Maybe. Why do they make a point of Kodak Center in the article? And i see it is a political newspaper and I'm not going there other than to ask what the heck ya all got going on there and what are the likely true facts?

They located almost a dozen gas containers in and around the SUV yet it was a large blaze or however they put it. Why would the containers be intact?

I kind of doubt they were aimed or planned to hit the car coming from the Kodak lot so going to guess the intent was to hurt people and blow up at a big event, the concert on a holiday? So what do we have like the equivalent of a suicide bomber?

Or could it just be a drunken or drugged person who was going to off himself and take others with him?

Where I live sure the heck isn't perfect but still lacks big things of this nature and much serious crime and I seriously hope it stays that way.

Allthough it seems less than clear yet what this was really about.

It's our local newspaper, they are not political. The reason Kodak Center is mentioned is that it's a place a lot of Rochestarians are familiar with. That's it.

They're having a news conference about this. The car that was hit was a ride share car. The guy who hit it may have had mental problems according to his family.

That's what I wondered above rather than jumping to the conclusion it was something more with gas cans and an explosion, just someone off, drugged up, mentallyl losing it, a breakup, etc.

The article seemed to want to hint at something more. But then that's news I guess.

A ride share car. I wasn't far off then telling you it wasn't the night to be out then.

This is outrageous. Dad a felon apparently not supposed to have a gun. Send your kid to get your cigs?? He grabs your gun? Did you give him keys to the car or was it unlocked? Clearly he knew your gun was in there. Sooooo much wrong here. Well dad, great choice now you are charged and in jail and your ten year old kid is too and someone else's is dead.

Reading between the lines we have a felon daddy raising kids. And I think it's a fair bet his prior crimes perhaps should have had him not free and out of jail/prison. Jut a guess, ti is so often the case.
 
I am not kidding. There are some people that should be forced to be sterilized. It would solve alot of problems. You meet the criteria. STERILIZED!!! This week marks 28 years since the disappearance of nine-year-old Amber Hagerman. On Jan. 13, 1996, she was kidnapped off her pink bicycle by a stranger in a black truck.

The bike was found abandoned in a parking lot. Amber's body was found four days later in a nearby creek. To this day, who killed her remains a mystery.

WTH?

They better be darned sure she died of natural causes first of all.

Second of all was anything collected for her? SS? Life insurance?

While it could just be the Quaker thing, did they not know about laws?

If it was about being buried together then do cremation and wait or pay to have her embalmed and kept until you die or some such?

Just doesn't sound right. I don't know that the son should be charged for knowing BUT that all depends on what really happened to her and more.

Why was an old man living in a camper and the son in the home?

Just saying there are a lot of unanswered questions here. And dad can't give answers now either.

Why would she be so intact?? She isn't out in the elements but heat and cold in a camper in summer and winter in OH, it just doesn't compute...

Maybe it is all nothing intended and just grief and beliefs but I wouldn't count on it.

She's been dead for six to seven years! Are they sure she wasn't in a freezer for a few years or something...
