Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan reports on October 29, at 10:52 a.m., the Linn County Dispatch Center received a report of a suspicious vehicle on a dead-end Forest Service Road off of Highway 20, approximately 30 miles east of Sweet Home, Oregon. A hunter in the area found a gray Toyota Camry with California license plates parked at the end of the road with no one around.

Linn County deputies responded to the location and discovered the vehicle was connected to a female who had been reported missing out of the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office in Northern California. Tammy Pitkin, 54 years old, was reported missing on October 26th but had not been seen by family since October 14th.

Tammy was last known to have been in Sutherlin, Oregon on October 17th. Deputies contacted family members and learned Tammy has no connections to the Linn County area. Members of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team have been searching the area and have found no signs of Tammy at this time.

Tammy is described as being 5’4”, 160 pounds, with blond hair and hazel eyes. Deputies learned Tammy most likely has her two small dogs with her, a white/black/brown Jack Russell Terrier and another smaller white dog. If you have seen Tammy or gave her a ride from the area, please contact the Linn County Sheriff’s Office at 541-967-3911.

If you've seen the documentary Ghosts of Highway 20 or heard of the serial killer John Ackroyd, this is the same area. (Where her vehicle was found.) I say this not because there's any connection, just to indicate the area.

I wonder if Tammy had any previous connections to Oregon or had ever been. This would be a LONG way to go for someone else to randomly dump a vehicle.
It is going to be a special “Lost Women of Highway 20” On ID 11/5.

That seems so odd when she was a well-known real estate agent.
Maybe I missed it. But it doesn’t appear she had an appointment to show a property. There have been several female real estate agents murdered by false prospective buyers. Some go in 2’s now. Because that would be my first guess. But IMO she wouldn’t bring her dogs. I MO. After almost a year, If someone random found the dogs. They were local. Do they would have contacted LE. But this seems it was someone known to her,And they couldn’t be caught with the dogs. Unfortunately, I think they were killed, And she was too.

No, she was an agent in California. I’m not quite sure what she was doing in Oregon? I may have known, but I’ve forgotten.

RED BLUFF, Calif. — A Red Bluff woman and well-known local realtor, Tammy Pitkin, has been missing for nearly two months.

KRCR first reported on Pitkin's case back in November, shortly after her Toyota Camry was found deserted on a forest service road in Oregon, north of Eugene.

Since then, a Facebook page has been created in her name with over 1,000 followers and countless posts.

Airaka Laughlin, Tammy’s half-sister, recently started commenting on the page after learning of her sister's disappearance on Sunday. Admittedly estranged from Tammy for the last five-plus years, Laughlin spoke with KRCR's Sam Chimenti on Wednesday about the importance of keeping her investigation going.

According to Laughlin, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon has concluded its search for Tammy and given the investigation over to Tehama County.

"I was kind of surprised by that," said Laughlin.

However, Laughlin did say Linn County still has two investigators assigned to Pitkin's case.

"If this is true, why do you think she left?" KRCR's Sam Chimenti asked.

"Currently, she is not mentally well. And, I believe, she got a little bit scared," Laughlin responded. "And, maybe, in the midst of her traveling wherever she was planning to go, she decided to pull off to the side of the road because she got scared by something. Maybe she thought she was being followed—I’m not sure."

Trying to catch up on reading.

Her dog, Trooper, was found in February. Alive. He has since been adopted. I'll keep looking, but it sounds like he was in the general area where her car was found.

A sister’s sorrow: The search for Tammy Pitkin

RED BLUFF – Each time human remains are found in Oregon, Airaka Laughlin-Bento, of Reno, Nev., holds her breath. More than a year has passed since her sister disappeared. Two of Tammy Pitkin’s birthdays have come and gone since she vanished.

A Red Bluff woman and well-known local realtor, Pitkin, has been missing since mid-October 2022.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office deputies found a vehicle connected to the Red Bluff woman on a dead-end U.S. Forest Service road off Highway 20 about 30 miles east of Sweet Home, Ore. on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022.

Pitkin, who would have turned 54 during the period she was missing, was actually reported missing on Oct. 26 but had not been seen by family since Oct. 14.

According to law enforcement, a hunter in the area near Sweet Home, Ore. reported to authorities that he found her gray Toyota Camry with California license plates parked at the end of the road with no one around. Investigators believe Pitkin’s car was at the dead-end forest service road the entire time from Oct. 17 to Oct. 29, based on the amount of gas remaining in the car, dirt had no tracks and there had been snow a week prior, which could have covered/removed the tracks, according to Laughlin-Bento.

Linn County Detective Sergeant Paul Eves, the case agent, said several different Search and Rescue teams, including a K-9 team have conducted searches for Pitkin. He said the case remains active and open. He continues to investigate tips as they come in.

Detectives found in the car: Pitkin’s purse with her identification, her passport, Social Security Card, birth certificate, an overnight bag with toiletries, her regular medication, a gun, leashes for her dogs and two Home Depot moving boxes — one containing clothing the other containing shoes. Linn County Sheriff’s conducted a three-day investigation and search of the vehicle.

Deputies contacted family members and learned she had no connections to the Linn County area. Members of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team have been searching the area and have found no signs of Pitkin.

Pitkin is described as 5’4″, 160 pounds, with blond hair and hazel eyes. She has an L-shaped scar on her forehead. Deputies learned she had her two dogs with her, a white/black/brown Jack Russell terrier and a small white dog named Trooper.

More than three months after Pitkin disappeared, Trooper was found in fairly close proximity to Pitkin’s car, running along Highway 20, according to Eves.

The dog has since been adopted by an Oregon couple. Laughlin-Bento said she receives photos and updates of Trooper from the dog’s new family.

Though Laughlin-Bento and Pitkin had been estranged for about five years, the half-sisters grew up together and were very close previously.

“I love my sister no matter what,” Laughlin-Bento said. “I know she would never leave her dogs behind, miss her son’s wedding or the birth of her grandchild. All of those things occurred and it just doesn’t make sense. Somebody must know something.”

Laughlin-Bento would like to hire a private investigator and set up a tip-line.

Anyone with information about Pitkin is asked to contact the Linn County Sheriff’s Office at 541-967-3911.

I don’t remember reading before that a gun was found in the vehicle. So if she was going to take her own life, she didn’t have her gun? Unless she had another one? I wonder if she just got lost.

Well I don't think most people travel with their SS card, passport, moving boxes and more unless going on a trip or leaving for good, etc. I'd say she was meeting someone and thought she'd need all of these things but then who she met was not a good person. Altneratively she staged her own disappearance taking none of these things with her which is more unlikely imo. Finally she was upset over something in life, moving and leaving but mid trip decided to do away with herself instead and yeah why would you lave the gun.

I vote the first one most likely. Phone, computer and electronics might provide the answer as to who.

Without a trace: Two years have passed since Tammy Pitkin went missing

The mystery of Tammy Pitkin’s disappearance remains as the two-year mark passed on Oct. 16.

Airaka Laughlin-Bento said Wednesday, “Two years ago today Tammy Pitkin was believed to be between Glendale, Ore. and Sutherlin, Ore. We know this by receipts found in her car and a reservation made for the Best Western in Sutherlin.”

Laughlin-Bento is Pitkin’s sister. Pitkin was last known to be in Glendale, where she made a purchase at a convenience store on Oct. 15, 2022. According to authorities, on Oct. 16, 2022, she made a reservation for a room at a motel.

“There is a lot of unaccounted time between the 15th and 16th. Where was Tammy on the night of the 15th? Did she stay with someone that she met up with? What did she do the entire day of the 16th, besides make a reservation for Best Western that night?” Laughlin-Bento wrote on a social media website. “Tammy and her dog Cope are still missing. We won’t stop until she has been found.”

Unsolved Mystery: Sister seeks information about Tammy Pitkin's disappearance

The disappearance of Tammy Pitkin, a woman from Red Bluff, remains a mystery more than three years after she vanished while visiting Oregon. Pitkin was last seen on October 17, 2022.

Laughlin-Bento believes her sister is dead but is dedicated to finding out what happened. She urged people in Red Bluff to help.

"Quit being afraid," Laughlin-Bento said. "I know there are people in Tammy's community who know what happened, who have details regarding what happened to her, things that could help us get her justice."

"What we need from the public at this point is any little detail that you think is insignificant," said Laughlin-Bento. "These are things that some people think, 'oh, that's not a big deal,' but it is because it's part of the timeline."

Alex Rogue, host of the Shady podcast "Erased but Not Forgotten: The Tammy Pitkin Story," has interviewed people in Red Bluff and followed Pitkin's path into Oregon. The first four episodes are available on Spotify and other podcast platforms.
