Local Law Enforcement Issue Alert for Missing Wells, TX Infant

The Wells Police Department and Cherokee County Sheriff's Office have activated the Deep East Texas Amber Alert Program and will be activating the Texas statewide Amber Alert Network because of a Wells, Texas infant who may have been abducted.

At approximately 4:16 PM on Friday, September 18, 5-week old Armaidre Antwan Marquie Argumon was believed to be abducted from his residence on Old Forest Rd, Wells TX.

Armaidre is a mixed-race infant, with dark-colored hair and last seen wearing a cloth diaper. He was last seen in Wells, allegedly with his father, in a Green 2000 Ford Truck License Plate MBD8186. The father has been located by law enforcement but the whereabouts of the child are still unknown at this time.

UPDATED: Search launches for missing Wells infant

Area law enforcement agents have launched a search for a missing month-old boy from Wells, who was reported last seen between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Friday morning.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson, the infant was reported missing by a family member.

The department is working with the Wells Police Department in a combined investigation. At this time, Dickson said the agencies are conducting numerous interviews and are working on getting an Amber Alert issued.

UPDATED AT 6:20 PM FRIDAY:

According to a Facebook message on its page, Wells Police Department said that it also is working with the Texas Ranger to find the missing infant.

"At this time we ask anyone that has spotted a Green Ford Ranger to contact the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department. An Amber Alert has been issued. As more information comes in the public will be updated," the post stated.

Cadaver dogs and drone called in to search for missing Wells baby

On Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, the Wells Police Department and Texas Department of Criminal Justice called in dogs, a helicopter, and drone to search for baby Armaidre Antwan Maquie Argumon of Wells. Law enforcement started the search on Forest Road around 8 a.m.

According to Steve Cooper of the Wells Police Department, “It is like looking for a needle in a haystack. We might have missed something small in the previous searches such as clothing or diapers. So far nothing has led us to any conclusions.”

A helicopter was cleared and flew over the area as well as a drone to get an aerial view. Again, nothing turned up as far as evidence nor the location of the missing baby.

The Wells PD is asking anyone who had outside cameras that were operating last Friday between Wells and Lufkin to review the footage to see if either vehicle the father was driving passed by between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. The vehicles are a 2003 gray Ford Explorer or a green Ford Ranger. The father has been arrested on unrelated charges where he remains in jail. He has been uncooperative in the ongoing investigation.

This is an odd case. None of this sounds very positive. The mother does not seem to be in question as they say they want to return the baby to its mother--on the other hand, it says "rightful" mother... which is an unusual word to put in there...

On Tuesday, Cherokee County authorities say they searched a new area near the Angelina-Trinity County Line.

Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson says they are continuing their investigation.

“We do suspect some sort of foul play,” Dickson said. “The father has been charged with endangering a child or abandoning a child. We do suspect him of foul play as far as that goes, but we do not know the circumstances what lead to the child going missing.”

He says they are even checking a broader area.

Dickson says they received a lead that the Argumon family owned land in the past, in the south Rusk area, but nothing was recovered.

The sheriff’s office has a detective working full-time on this case, as well as the Wells Police Department and the Texas Rangers.

Dickson says the father, Deandre Argumon, is still their lead suspect and has not been cooperative.

He is currently in jail on an unrelated charge.

He was also charged with unauthorized use of motor vehicle because, according to the DA, he arrived on scene back in September 2020 in a vehicle that was not his. He was found guilty on a bench trial April 27. He was sentenced to eight years for that crime, which he will serve concurrently with the 15 years sentence he received today for endangering his child.

It's been 495 days.

The last time then-5-week-old Armaidre Argumon was seen was Sept. 18, 2020, with his father, DeAndre, in the 500 block of Old Forest Rd. in Wells. That same day, an AMBER Alert was issued for the child.

Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson said DeAndre was not cooperative in trying to locate Armaidre.


In Wells, a tiny town of just 850 residents according to the latest census data, everyone knows each other. Residents say you couldn’t even pass through town without hearing about the boy. But the question that remains on everyone's minds is where is he?

“Somebody out there knows what happened," said WPD patrol officer Steve Cooper in a September 2021 interview with CBS19. "Will we ever find that out? I don't know.

Dickson said there are no new leads or information at this time. If someone sees something suspicious, they can call the sheriff's office of the Wells Police Department.

They can't find his child and he is already found guilty of abandonment and more and he refuses to help find his child and yet a judge gives him concurrent rather than consecutive sentences? Why? Couldn't he consider the fact at least one charge he was found guilty of relates to the child that is now missing because of him that he won't help find? Why not do consecutive sentences for a total of 23 years? If he then is never charged for the child's murder, he at least has a pretty long sentence.

It has been two years since a 5-week-old infant went missing in Cherokee County.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said there are no new leads on the Armaidre Argumon case.


DeAndre Argumon and Amanda Doss are the child’s parents.

“Amanda says she was not here, but Dre says he gave the baby to Amanda. Neither parent has custody, my aunt, who is baby Dre’s grandmother, has custody,” said Deandre’s cousin, Jakeih Argumon in 2020.

Law enforcement later arrested the child’s father, DeAndre Argumon, and officials said he was not cooperating with them. In 2021, DeAndre was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to abandoning a child. He was also convicted of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in connection to his son’s case.

I guess it is easy to criticize and who knows, maybe they did the best they could with what they had--but I am going to anyhow. Why make a plea deal with this man AND hand him concurrent sentences? A weak case? I doubt it. If he felt it weak, he would have fought it and went to trial in my mind. There goes any leverage of finding out where this infant's body is.

I guess they did get him put away and can still prosecute as they say if evidence is found and that's good but they made a DEAL that didn't include telling where to find the child.

I guess 15 years is better than nothing but it isn't enough.
