FBI now involved in ongoing search for missing 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the ongoing search for a missing/endangered 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy who went missing Monday afternoon, and the task force investigating his disappearance is organizing a team of volunteers to start searching for him.

Gannon Stauch was believed to be a runaway after he left his home southeast of Colorado Springs between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on Monday. But as the week progressed, his disappearance was upgraded to a missing/endangered person case.

His stepmother said he left his home on foot to play at a friend’s house down the street on Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies and major crimes detectives had taken “extraordinary steps” to locate the boy, the sheriff’s office said. They were actively searching for evidence and taking witness statements, a sheriff’s office news release issued earlier this week read.

“He’s very young, it’s dark and cold outside and we want to bring Gannon to safety,” the sheriff’s said in a Facebook post earlier this week.

On Thursday afternoon, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and other task force members, as well as Stauch’s parents, hosted a news conference to update the community on his disappearance, discuss the steps being taken in the investigation, and to notify people in the area that they are organizing volunteers to begin a community search effort in coming days.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mitch Mahalko said the sheriff’s office received the investigation on Tuesday afternoon and started doing interviews and collecting video surveillance and talking to neighbors, working to collect new leads.

He said that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and FBI got involved after the case was upgraded to a missing/endangered child case. The FBI’s team specializes in search and rescue and “will be a good partner” in the investigation, Mahalko said.

He said the investigation was active and that authorities were conducting interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence – exhausting every lead they receive.

Mahalko said investigators were looking at “persons of interest” in the case as people who might be able to give them additional information on Stauch’s whereabouts.

He declined to say where authorities had been searching but confirmed that investigators had been in contact with some trash companies in El Paso County and in the Lorson Ranch area.

Kirby stressed that people with tips should report them to their tip line – 719-520-6666 – and not on social media because any tips sent to the sheriff’s office on social media will not be considered.

I was on the fence with Harley because she has kept a very low profile; however, after today I'm 100% positive she knew nothing about what Letecia was up to. Harley was manipulated by Letecia and fearful in questioning anything her 'Mom' said because she would get backhanded across her face otherwise. Letecia's sister cut off helping Harley in any way once she stopped defending Letecia.

She may have said I don't know a lot but what she did recall was important. If Al & Letecia were arguing Letecia would bring Harley in to the argument to have someone on her side. When she didn't want to be in Alaska she claimed she was sexually assaulted hence the transfer to Colorado. In 2019 after an argument Letecia had with Al she told Harley to pack her stuff and they left. Only made it to Kansas before Letecia & Al worked things out and they returned.

Harley was interviewed extensively by the FBI after Gannon's body was found and if they witnessed any deceit she would be in jail, imo.

This young woman did very well testifying and I hope she completes her nursing degree in the year and a half she has left of school and is able to hold her head high. ❤️

also, Letecia was still flipping off the cameras today, I took a couple screen shots; I hope the Judge reviews the footage for himself
I can only imagine what she's seen already in her young life.

I don't believe all she said but the bashing is not ok. She has alot on her plate.
I too find her or believe her to be untruthful in a few instances and I also think she omits things. I was on board with her for quite a long time but as we got to the more important things, she starts to lose me.

I should note I haven't finished watching yet as I just got home and don't know that I will tonight either.

I do not believe her about the back of the van and feel she made a slip there. I don't believe her when she says she doesn't remember if they found her mom's car in the parking garage, that is what they were there to do.

I agree people don't need to be bashing her in chats, etc. She is 20 though and they aren't bashing a child although I think of her as a child, that's still pretty young.

I of course don't think she helped in murdering Gannon but she so far isn't doing anything to convince me she didn't know afterwards. I'll have to see what I think at the end of all of it.

The cops either can't really prove she is lying, or cut her a break since she was a minor or feel the testimony she would or did tell the truth on was worth it to have her talk to them and testify and so didn't charge her or something on that order. We can add to that the fact that if they had charged her with anything, Tecia would be yelling that they had no right to talk to her minor.child, etc. and they may just not have considered it worth it.

I'm actually quite disappointed. I had hoped she'd be totally honest. i will wait to form my overall opinion as I'm not done.

Finally, I believe quite a few of her I don't knows but I don't believe all of them.

I've actually stuck up for her in chats and still will but I do have my opinion on her truthfulness so far and in some areas.

So...I kinda just now found this thread...I've been following this from day one as it happened in Colorado Springs where I live. I knew she was guilty from day one. Then came the interview with Spencer, the one where she didn't want her face shown. LS is evil incarnate. This is the first time I have seen this much evil up close....

Followed from day one as well. Yes she is evil. And her behavior never stops. I'm sure you'll be glad when she is no longer smelling up your city and is in a concrete cell.

Is she flipping off the cameras or is it directed at witnesses?

Well in finishing listening to her testimony on direct, she won me back over for the most part. Then I hit the part about her thinking she could be an accessory to murder and the "deal" or whatever they gave her. They entered the agreement as an exhibit but we never saw it, did the jury even see it? How can she be an accessory to first degree murder or think she was unless there is something we don't know? It wasn't said accessory after the fact.

Regardless, I mostly believed the rest of her testimony on direct.

I do not believe that in that entire trip and her expressing (a slip imo) she wanted clothes or would have liked to get some, she couldn't have went to the back of the van to get some. She tried to cover by saying they were never in hotels long so she didn't bother. No, I don't buy that. Either she knew or WORRIED about something that she avoided the back of the van OR she did access it. This teen was a clothing hound, a fashion person, etc., she is always clean and nicely dressed. Watch her YT and watch the hike video, etc.

Are we also to believe T was a good mom in the sense she kept her daughter out of all of this and never involved her? She involved her in everything, her marital arguments, rides from the hospital, playing games to stay at her friend's house, having her take her to look for her car, etc.

We have two dogs, T and H in a van with a by now long dead body. And she never noticed anything? The dogs never reacted? And she struck me as lying on this one. I don't know...

One big thing to me was her saying she did not until just this past November (just months ago) believe her mom did this or I guess face it. She long knew lots of things that would made one wonder and a big one was that they were in the area of Florida that Gannon was then found in... I can believe a child or any loved one can be loyal and bury their head in denial but that's a stretch, just RECENTLY? I don't know... Why then did she worry she was an accessory to first degree murder long ago if no murder by her mother occurred?

I DO think there are things known here omitted and I DO think the prosecution may know some.

Are we to really believe when stopping at a hotel and the van off (no air) and closed, when they re-entered the van in warm southern states there was no smell? Dogs who were puppies as she put it never reacted??? Dogs noses are well beyond ours.

I don't know where I am at. I went to bed last night on her side. I don't though buy it all and believe everything she said. And I haven't listened to all of cross.

I guess in the scheme of things it doesn't matter. It DOES but doesn't...

Ignore me, I think I'm just talking my thoughts out to see where I'm at and what I think...

Now she was tearful and upset but the instant a question was asked, it dropped/stopped, and then next second put it right back on... I don't know. I am coming back to how I developed an opinion some time back with her YTs and various things... And her biggest upset was that her mom didn't provide financially for her or have any plan in place when she was left high and dry. Not being left in other ways but financially.

Again, it likely doesn't matter overall but I'm back to not being solid on her...

I do believe that she was under her mothers thumb all her life and that she was afraid of her.
And I think that she buried her head in the sand for quite a while and didn't dare to put 2 and 2 together. Her mother was all she had and she didn't WANT to face reality, which is only human. When she was asked at the end if Gannon was treated more strict or more unfairly there was a pause til she answered "no". I think he was.
But she is incredibly brave to face her Mom, no doubt.

That struck me as well, but maybe it's a big stress factor for her. If her relatives have cut ties with her completely it could be.

I'm back to her side. I give up. I'm just going to leave it. She had a selfish and manipulative mother. It is what it is. I don't buy absolutely everything throughout the testimony and I think that's the problem. The other problem is I had seen the GoFundMe, her videos, the hike video, etc. I developed over time and these things some experience with her turning some things on and off as it fit.

I give up. I am back and forth and it will likely stay that way so stopping. She is a far better person than her mom though and I hope she finds a path.

Finished now with her testimony and the follow up questions by the jury.

My overall is for the most part she was honest. And I feel for her having to go through it, entirely unfair and grueling and scary I'm sure. I'll leave it at that.

She was moved so the Judge could have a better view however from where the camera is placed in the courtroom it's difficult to ascertain who the taunt is directed at.

Here is one of the clips I captured yesterday. This is not a casual or accidental hand gesture. It's very deliberate when Letecia gets irritated during testimony.

Cuff her hands below the top of the table and place a modesty panel on the desk. Nobody would be able to see her hands that way.

I have a lot more sympathy for her than I did prior to her testimony. She does seem like she’s been abused verbally, at the least. I also am having a hard time believing she never went in the back of that van, however. At the same time, stranger things have happened.

That was the interview that sealed the deal for me! She wouldn’t even look at the camera? Guilty as you know what.

I understand all your concerns. But I do believe she’s been terribly abused, so who knows what her reality is like in the grand scheme things? I do hope she’s getting help so she can learn how to be confident and productive.

I picked up on that, too! I absolutely think that LS had it out for Gannon. I can’t figure out why Harley said no. Did she say no because she didn’t notice a level of abuse from one person to another? Did she say no because she is still scared?

and when young, you only know what you are taught, basically. There is no telling what she put her daughter though.
