The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the ongoing search for a missing/endangered 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy who went missing Monday afternoon, and the task force investigating his disappearance is organizing a team of volunteers to start searching for him.

Gannon Stauch was believed to be a runaway after he left his home southeast of Colorado Springs between 3:15 and 4 p.m. on Monday. But as the week progressed, his disappearance was upgraded to a missing/endangered person case.

His stepmother said he left his home on foot to play at a friend’s house down the street on Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies and major crimes detectives had taken “extraordinary steps” to locate the boy, the sheriff’s office said. They were actively searching for evidence and taking witness statements, a sheriff’s office news release issued earlier this week read.

“He’s very young, it’s dark and cold outside and we want to bring Gannon to safety,” the sheriff’s said in a Facebook post earlier this week.

On Thursday afternoon, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and other task force members, as well as Stauch’s parents, hosted a news conference to update the community on his disappearance, discuss the steps being taken in the investigation, and to notify people in the area that they are organizing volunteers to begin a community search effort in coming days.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mitch Mahalko said the sheriff’s office received the investigation on Tuesday afternoon and started doing interviews and collecting video surveillance and talking to neighbors, working to collect new leads.

He said that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and FBI got involved after the case was upgraded to a missing/endangered child case. The FBI’s team specializes in search and rescue and “will be a good partner” in the investigation, Mahalko said.

He said the investigation was active and that authorities were conducting interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence – exhausting every lead they receive.

Mahalko said investigators were looking at “persons of interest” in the case as people who might be able to give them additional information on Stauch’s whereabouts.

He declined to say where authorities had been searching but confirmed that investigators had been in contact with some trash companies in El Paso County and in the Lorson Ranch area.

Kirby stressed that people with tips should report them to their tip line – 719-520-6666 – and not on social media because any tips sent to the sheriff’s office on social media will not be considered.

Defendant then took very deliberate action and decided to hide her crimes from the world... (His words, most are almost exact but paraphrasing at times but close to quoting)...

I may end up doing a whole play by play here if I keep watching. I have to work in morning but as much as I hate these details, it is so powerful, I keep watching...

This is how I get sucked into child murders. It starts with a missing child which Gannon was initially, then one finds out it isn't the case, and then one is already caring and into the case, caring about the kid, and then come the horrid details.

Dam* it.

Another comment from me and thought--if I was a juror and knew not a thing about this case, I'd already be upset and hanging onto the prosecutor's every word and thinking guilty.... Of course defense will get up next but just saying, and I have always said I think this case has a TON of evidence, he is doing a GREAT job.

Plastic tub/storage tote in storage room had Gannon's blood. Amazon box had Gannon's blood... The concrete floor in the storage room had his blood... She next decides to clean his room...

Okay clearly for as long as I stay up I am likely to tell the entire opening statement to all here... Not sure I can quit listening as upsetting as it is... He has me riveted.

Knew what she was doing. Scrubbed the walls. Scrubbed the floor with scrub brushes later found in dishwasher... Those brushes had carpet fibers and blood. They have Gannon's DNA. Man I have to take a break.

This opening so far is easy to follow, direct, succinct and makes its points with every statement.... And he is showing some pics of all at same time...

In this case we knew so much of this but not to this detail and we have waited a long, long time and imagine Gannon's mom hearing it now. Just no words...

PURE evil, this is one I have felt that way in with her and it is being confirmed. Evil times a million.

Kind of wish anyone was around to talk of it or vent about it for a moment. I have to stop listening for a few... And yet go to hit play again...

To get my mind anywhere else for a moment, I hate that these trials are going on at the same time. Three big ones, three very followed ones. Each deserves their own attention and EACH victim does as well.

This one here is being handled so far as I can see very impressively yet there is coverage. This case was HUGE and a lot of online stuff but they tamped it down other than T-Bag pulling her stuff in jail, etc. and it has been quiet for some time. Serious handling. Judge seems great.

Then we have Vallow that every show that could and everyone involved or known that could almost went on every show on primetime TV in the nation. Movies made, (Lifetime). Netflix, I think Dateline, all of them, 48 Hours... And yet that's the one so NOT allowing cameras etc. Like why after so much of it has already been out there all over...

Just trying to get my mind off the details I have been hearing here. I don't know what I expected or if I had an expectation but I wasn't ready to hear all these things in opening statement even though we knew some of them...

Okay. Onward. I still recommend watching this great opening even though I guess I may end up giving an exact accounting of it.

So he shows pic of what they found, no obvious indication of what happened as she cleaned. Also says what was also never found were her clothes that had to have had blood on them... DEFENDANT'S shoes were found on washing machine drying I think he said. The rust color on them (showed pic) was Gannon's blood. This is ONE case they clearly have DNA and blood and a lot of it is becoming clear to me...

This POS and her attys it is becoming very clear (already was but even more so now) there is no defense but insanity, etc. What else can they say?

Some of stains on shoes etc. were on soles. He says you can tell just how much blood of Gannon's while cleaning, etc. she was walking through...

This poor boy!

That MONSTER.

Hid him first in suitcase in her car then up north near some county line. GPS location data used to track her movements which led to another grisly discovery.

I think each atty allotted an hour unless I have cases mixed up. I feel I am close so trying to stick it out on prosecution's opening at least. Not going to do defense's tonight. If pros though goes the two hours left, not sure...

Well just as it seemed to be winding toward prosecution close, something happened. Then a gap and now I think defense is coming on. I tried to go back to prosecution as they seemed to be winding to close and something happened with video, etc.

Last I heard was something about a board and more which think goes to grisly discovery. Then he was going towards insanity and jury instructions and what jury needs to do but when i try to rewind to relisten to that, I haven't found it... Or even what I did hear from grisly discovery on. Tried a couple times. May be me. I'm very tired. Did get it to a point I think defense is going to go but don't have the time for it or patience. I can about guess as we all can where they will likely go... POOR Letecia, this problem and that problem which led to this problem and that problem, a cheating husband, taking care of his kids, etc., etc. and she already has problems so POOR Letecia.

My GUESS. Haven't heard it yet but that's my guess... I doubt he is going to say Eguardo did it...

Thank you Gbear for posting alot about the trial, I was at work and couldn't watch it live.
Hearing the recording of that terrible person guilting crying and scared Gannon infuriates me every time 🥺.

So Harley will testify against her or did I misunderstand?
My heart is with his family, but also with the jurors, this autopsy fotos must be gruesome😔

Cleaning up the shell casings is a sign she knew right from wrong. There goes the insanity defense.
Yeah, prosecution was pointing out quite a bit her cover ups and obvious knowledge of wrongdoing hence not insane. The shell casings were an interesting one. They have a lot of evidence as we figured but even more than we figured.

I am pretty sure or would bet that defense is going to say when she killed him she was insane (lost it) and then came out of her fugue or mental break or whatever they are going to call it. I guessed such some time back up above. It is the only way they can go as far as I can see. This would leave them arguing she isn't guilty of murder but maybe is of the cover up or leave her only exposed to that.

If anyone watches it, I'd like to know what they experience at the end (not end of the video but end of the prosecution opening). I did not watch it live. You edit and such as I know you did YT videos on a case, is there any way I could have heard something and then rewound a RECORDED thing and it not be there? I tried twice or more but I was so tired. and maybe I didn't get back to the right spot or something.

Even though I recounted basically all of it until then, it is worth watching imo although the details broke my heart and enraged me.

Quite happy though with the prosecution, it was impactful. I am also impressed this judge is doing this in a way the public can see this trial. I don't know but am assuming such will continue. I had thought this one was not going to be able to be seen. Way better than the Daybell judge choice. It isn't just that I want to see it either, I truly believe it is the right thing for many reasons.

They should show her face, she has no right to hide it imo.

I couldn't either, working as well. I wish I could, very much wish I could.

Yes that recording is infuriating and heartbreaking. Gannon's upset is heartbreaking in it. She is manipulating him and the recording imo to sound as she wants it.

They ABSOLUTELY should be showing her face. I agree! Striking difference between her and Lori Daybell who wants to be seen. For all Letecia's boldness in abusing and killing a child, she hides like a child would now. It doesn't fit with her outright behavior throughout including her escape attempts, attempts to act loony, and her lies both online and in person and outright lack of hesitation of attacking this child and then covering it up.

I didn't hear anything about Harley, you heard she was going to testify against her?

I didn't go on to watch the defense opening. Ideally I would have to try to stay up with this trial which I likely won't be able to, at least not to listen to all myself. I work two days, get one day off, work another four, one off and then another four. I think in there I may have one evening where I may be able to watch during that day, I forget when. With many of my own things to handle, not sure though I will even get to catch up on those few days off. Same with Vallow and West.

Yeah this will be a tough one for jurors although I think and hope it would be an easy one to convict. PLENTY of evidence to assure them they are making the right decision, so long as it is clear to them she was not insane and is not sympathetic. Imo.

Since the evidence is all there, I'd guess if this hinges on anything, it will hinge on who is believable for each side's experts. I think and pray the State's will blow theirs out of the water. That guy didn't even file his findings on time or do his report. Hopefully he will be just as bad an unimpressive on the stand.
