ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

During afternoon closing arguments, Thaler's attorney acknowledged she is guilty of participating in Hart's killing, but said she's not the one who pulled the shotgun trigger six times, reloaded, and fired again three more times.

"She's not charged with the crime they have proved," said attorney Bryan Leary. "She destroyed evidence, lied to police, ran away, but they have not proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the gun was in her hands when it was fired nine times into her son."

Thaler, 29, is accused of the heinous killing of Hart in a case that shocked the conscience. Prosecutors presented to jurors a trail of evidence pointing to Thaler's guilt. Her attorneys declined to call any witnesses, including Thaler, who told Judge Jay Quam that she was advised to not testify in her own self defense.

An attorney for Jerry Sandusky says the disgraced former Penn State football coach wants a new trial.

Sandusky's attorney says the legal team has just filed an amended motion making that request, citing recently discovered evidence related to an interview with one of the victims back in 2011, shortly before the case was originally tried.

Sandusky is currently serving a decades-long term in state prison for multiple counts of child molestation.

The man accused of building the explosive used in the Lockerbie bombing has pleaded not guilty in a US court.

Abu Agila Masud is alleged to have been involved in downing Pan Am flight 103 over the Scottish town in 1988 - killing 270 people.

He is charged with two counts of destruction of an aircraft resulting in death and a count of destruction of a vehicle resulting in death.

The Libyan pleaded not guilty to all three in a federal court in Washington.

Each of the charges Mr Masud faces are punishable by a sentence of up to life imprisonment, the death penalty or a fine of up to $250,000 (£206,000).

A previous hearing in December heard that Mr Masud will not face the death penalty because the bombing occurred before the specific charges which he faces carried a possible penalty of capital punishment.

A further hearing was fixed for later in February for Judge Moxila Upadhyaya to hear arguments on whether Mr Masud should be detained or released for trial.

A 14-year-old girl who was reported missing over a year ago by her foster family has been found hiding in the closet of a Michigan home, authorities said.

A U.S. Marshals fugitive team found the girl Tuesday in Port Huron, about 62 miles northeast of Detroit. Child Protective Services took her to a hospital, where it was discovered that she was pregnant.

"She was crying," Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Watson told the Detroit Free Press. "She didn't know where she was going to go. She was pretty terrified. And she was afraid of losing her baby."

Authorities are pursuing parental kidnapping charges against the girl's biological mother, who previously lost custody of her daughter, Watson said.

The mother is believed to have found the girl after she ran away and started moving the girl from house to house, authorities said. The girl has been reunited with her biological father.

So the 14 year old got pregnant under her mom's watch? She "might" have been pregnant when her mom found her though, but it also could be the lack of supervision type reasons why her mom lost custody in the first place, too. Mom definitely did not take her to prenatal care, that's for sure.

[Editor's note: Some readers may find the information in the story below disturbing.]

During a lengthy and graphic arraignment on Tuesday, prosecutors said that Lindsay Clancy planned the murders of her children, while her defense attorney chalked the tragedy up to overmedication and mental illness.

The 32-year-old Duxbury, Massachusetts, mother faced a judge for the first time during the arraignment, joining the court hearing virtually from a hospital bed, where she was seen masked and with what appeared to be some sort of neck brace. Her lawyer said she is in dire medical condition and isn’t expected to regain the function in her legs.

Prosecutors did not hesitate and spared no details as they explained to the court what they say happened on Jan. 24 – the day that the three Clancy children were allegedly strangled by their mother with an exercise rope, who authorities say then cut herself and jumped out a window while her husband ran errands that she requested and researched.

TULSA, Okla. -
A couple is in the Tulsa County jail, accused of repeatedly abusing their 13-year-old daughter and possibly killing their 11-year-old son, but nobody knew for years.

We warn you the details of this case are difficult to hear.

Detectives said the parents told family members the boy was at a cousin's house.

Family members said the boy hasn't been seen for about two years and he's not been in school.

Police said the 13-year-old told her grandma her mother and stepfather killed her brother.

John Miles and Camille Lewis are facing a count of child abuse by injury and child neglect.

How exactly does this happen and undetected. It just baffles me. Parents yet AGAIN! You need to have a license to drive. You should have to have one to have children.

Since there's going to be a trial, we should probably make a thread for this.

Agreed and Done.
