ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (WFLA) — An Alaska woman could spend almost 100 years in jail after pleading guilty to murdering her best friend last Wednesday, according to officials.

The State of Alaska’s Department of Law said Denali Brehmer, 22, pleaded guilty to murdering Cynthia Hoffman after tricking her into coming onto a hiking trip near Thunderbird Falls in Chugiak, Alaska.

Today reported that Brehmer conducted the murder after Darin Schilmiller, a resident of Indiana, offered her $9 million if he sent her photo and video of evidence of her killing someone, according to authorities. Law enforcement officials said Schilmiller pretended to be a millionaire named Tyler while striking up a relationship with Brehmer, who was 18 years old at the time.

Officials said Brehmer, Kayden McIntosh, Caleb Leyland, and two unidentified minors worked together to plan Hoffman’s death in exchange for money.

Wow! They're really so stupid that they thought they'd actually get the money?

MIAMI – A 15-year-old boy’s mother stood by her son on Tuesday morning in Miami after he was accused of attacking a 9-year-old girl on a school bus earlier this month.

The teenage boy, a first-time juvenile offender, appeared before Circuit Judge Marcia B. Caballero at the Miami-Dade County Children’s Courthouse.

Prosecutors filed the battery case after a witness video surfaced showing the violence against the third-grade Coconut Palm K-8 Academy student on Feb. 1.

“This beating was far more serious than a simple student altercation,” State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said in a statement earlier this month adding that “the level of violence” merited a criminal battery charge in juvenile court.

As the video went viral, the victim’s mother said she was outraged when she learned that the adults in the school bus failed to intervene and that the school’s police officer had initially issued a civil citation.

If "standing by her son" means denying he did it or that it wasn't that bad, that kids gonna end up in jail at some point for a long, long, long, time eventually.

So it being on video of her son beating a much younger child is not proof enough and it's everybody else's fault because they didn't intervene her son from doing it???

The Minnesota mother convicted of killing her 6-year-old son was sentenced to life in prison, but not before she shared her feelings with the court.

“I’m innocent. F—k you all. You’re garbage. That is all, your honor,” Julissa Thaler said during her sentencing hearing Thursday.

<snip>

“Ms. Thaler, I don’t know if that’s appropriate here,” Hennepin County District Judge Jay Quam said of the outburst.

“Sorry, I told you what somebody else can’t,” Thaler, 29, responded.
B***h YOU are garbage! You're innocen Psh. That's an interesting claim. You got rid of evidence in several dumpsters also. Innocent my azz. How, Under the circumstances even claim innocence?.
