So I think I read all or at least most and listened to the PC. The last thing I looked at was the map. I switched it to layers where it shows the terrain. What is the black space near the location? It isn't field, the fields are green. Blacktop, a body of water/retention pond?

I can tell you this, I have a dead end property (I guess I can stop saying we) and it dead ends at our property. One always knows anyone coming down that road is coming to our house or the neighbor's. However, it does not continue as in this map it seems to go past the last farm I'm guessing it is. Looking at the entire road there aren't many properties along it.

It is only April, how dense is the tree foliage and cover? Also is the black spot past the last property or the woods public land or private... I mean IF a dead end continued past our place, I'd have an issue or notice a vehicle going to the end unless it is something public like a boat landing, state forest, etc. that it wasn't that unusual to see that. To dump a body and know where that is and what the road leads to and take the chance of the property owners on the road noticing a probably not very high traffic area why would you do that...? And then of COURSE you have to turn around and go back the way you came which makes it even more of note if anyone sees you...

And of course although you are not awake 24/7, you notice vehicles as they are rare, headlights, even the mailman as he is the only most days. You also hear them as it is normally so very quiet, peaceful and dark. It is an odd sound and at night more noticeable.

Wow that is close to home. Is this small town/isolated area anywhere near highway? Doesn't seem likely. Also how far from state lines or nearest towns? And also, would a black child be unusual in this area? What I mean is in the midwest and it is true up by us in some small towns, there just are not that many black families, some have far more than others. I only ask because if there are but a few, someone would know this child if local imo, school, etc. would notice him missing and locals would just know there are only so many black children in town. However, if he or his family is from another area or state, bigger city, no one may realize he is missing and the area residents where he was found certainly wouldn't know who he is.

I am listening to the presser now.

I don't know why but I think they have a line on this and it will be solved quickly as to who he is... Just my opinion.
Its 20 minutes from Interstate 65 at exit 19. Exit 19 is 19 miles north of Louisville, KY.

ISP says search for identity of 5-year-old boy found in suitcase is 'getting bigger by the day'

Indiana State Police is reaching out to agencies across the country in search of the identity of a 5-year-old boy found dead Saturday inside a suitcase in rural Washington County.

ISP Sgt. Carey Huls said the body of the boy was found Saturday night by a mushroom hunter in a heavily wooded area of Washington County, approximately 80 feet off a rural road near New Pekin.

"We're trying to spread that net as far as we can until we get that call, that information, that leads to that tip of the identification," Huls said. "So we've spoken with numerous media outlets across the country, including national media outlets, obviously our social media, those types of things. It's getting bigger by the day. And we're thankful for that because, we want it to keep getting bigger until we get that information."

Huls said the No. 1 question remains simple: Who is the boy they found inside the suitcase?

"We really want to know who he is," Huls said. "Because somebody had to take care of him, and somebody's not talking. Whoever was responsible for this young man — for his care, for his well-being — nobody's stepped forward. Now, there's lots of different answers that could answer why that is, but right now, we need to know who that person or people were that were responsible for him so we can find out exactly what happened. And that will ultimately change the direction of this investigation."

Huls said they cannot speak to whether there was foul play or not in the boy's death.

"We're obviously not going to do anything that will jeopardize our case, but people can take it at face value when you have a child who's 5, they don't take care of themselves," he said. "They need somebody to take care of them and they can't put themselves in a suitcase and wind up in the middle of the woods on their own. So, obviously, something's out of place here, and we're looking for the answers for that."

It appears to be ponds. The other option is an ATV came through the woods in my opinion.
I think too it must be ponds as I don't know what else it would be. So if an ATV that would likely be a local or nearby resident I would think. Las Vegas suitcase seems odd though in any scenario. It almost seems like it must have been at night no matter what the case? Or it is someone that lives right in there somewhere...

So the mushroom hunter was out there at night. Is it morels in IN? We have them here and it is a big deal if you know the spots but everyone I've ever seen hunt them do it during the day. Probably doesn't mean anything and it is light later and April not winter.

I'll say this, I like how they are getting it or trying to out across the nation. There is a good chance maybe someone had visitation with this child for Easter or something and maybe other family members think he is with a parent or something. I don't know this of course but we sure have seen a few lately like that.

you arent going to find many at night, but "night" might be evening, a very common time to mushroom hunt, and closer to dark by the time LE got there.

True. Early evening/afternoon, hard to say. It does though indicate it is likely known for mushrooms at least to someone. At least where I come from, people have their areas and most don't tell anyone as Morels for instance fetch a good price. My rural property when we bought it we didn't know had mushrooms and that spring here came these guys telling us we had them and asking if they could pick them. I didn't care but my EX told them to get lost. The point is they didn't want to lose the spot... Someone else I knew years ago wouldn't share a spot he had. It's like a secret fishing spot where they bite...

Soooo.... I guess it could have been someone just looking anywhere but it would seem to me it would be someone that knew that specific area or lived close by. I'm not talking about any perp, just the mushroom hunter who found the body.

And it makes me wonder who knew of this area or how many...

The mushroom hunter lives out there on that road. And we Hoosiers think nothing of violence when it comes to protecting our mushroom hunting spots. ;)

Yep. We have a spot back in the woods. Might have to give it a try this weekend since the ground has warmed up enough now.

Has that been said? They do live on that road? Didn't see that. It is what I would have guessed though. Yes, here too, fishing holes and mushrooms... Don't even try to find out where or risk great bodily harm lol.

Yeah its on the video I posted upthread.
Thanks. If it was the presser I did play it or I should say half listen to it while reading other things but probably didn't focus on all as it sounded mostly like a typical PC of not much more info, sharing what they could and asking for tips, etc.

It makes sense though the mushroom hunter would live nearby.

Since this child was found it sounds like within a week, I'm pretty hopeful they will know something shortly if they don't already. They have I'm sure a lot more to work with than if it was months or a year later. Sadly talking about his remains but as far as solving, it is more than many cases have. That suitcase alone... They are for some reason holding back what he was wearing etc. which also one would think would be in pretty good shape and identifiable...

Indiana community organizing vigils for child found dead in Washington County

Two groups in Southern Indiana will be gathering to honor the life of a 5-year-old boy found dead in a suitcase in Washington County.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Carey Huls said two seperate vigils will be hosted in Washington County.

The first vigil will be hosted at Pekin Park on Sunday at 7 p.m. No information was provided as the organizer of the event.

Another vigil, organized by Sugar Creek Church’s pastor Todd Murphey, will be hosted on the square around the Salem courthouse at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Huls said the ongoing investigation of the boy’s death has brought the county together sharing their concern and their care.

It's hard to say at 5 years old but this child also may have been in school but this happened over the Easter break. I've always thought it would be great if they'd do a way all schools could not notified of missing children, a least in the surrounding areas and maybe states. There is a good chance he was in school but won't have returned to school after the Easter break....
