Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak released a statement Monday. According to Washington County authorities, a car pulled up in front of the convenience store on the 12000 Block of FM 390 West around 4 p.m. The driver of the car, later identified by authorities as Crowley, allegedly began shooting at a group of people who were outside the store.

Authorities said a 38-year-old man was shot several times. He was taken to a Bryan hospital and at last check remained in serious condition. After talking with witnesses at the scene, authorities said they identified Crowley as the suspected shooter, but have not released what his motive in the shooting might be.

Sheriff Hanak said a Washington County deputy had talked with Crowley earlier in the day and did not feel as if Crowley's son, Wyatt, was in any danger. The deputy said someone had complained that Crowley had parked his car behind the convenience store for periods of time throughout the day. The deputy said Wyatt was with his father.

Mother of missing boy pleas for his safe return, Burton community reacts to shooting

An arrest warrant has been issued for Joshua Crowley, charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Washington County Sheriff’s investigators believe Crowley is responsible for a random shooting in Burton Sunday at the Short Stop store. An Amber Alert has been issued for his son Wyatt.

Now the boy’s mother is making a personal plea for her son’s safe return. She found out about the shooting incident in Washington County Monday morning.

“I was completely devastated because I’m worried about my son. I haven’t heard from my son since Sunday afternoon,” said Daniela Crowley of Austin.

“I now know that he has mental health issues,” said Daniela Crowley. She said her ex-husband started watching her son on Saturday.

“My dad recently passed away and they were spreading his ashes, that‘s why he was watching my son because usually my family watches my son. He did this knowing that my entire family was out of town and that he could get away with it,” Daniela said.

She said there was no warning her ex would take her son and that he has no connection to Burton and doesn’t know why the shooting happened.

Wyatt’s mother had this personal plea.

“I just miss you and I love you and I just want you to come back. And then Joshua, whatever’s going through your head please bring my baby back because he needs his mom,” said Daniela.

‘I feel super blessed’: Round Rock mom reunites with missing 4-year-old son

On Monday morning, Daniela Crowley was in desperate search of information on her son’s whereabouts.

On Tuesday morning, with Wyatt curled up in her lap, Daniela Crowley said it felt as though she could finally exhale.

“The past two days were probably the worst days of my entire life,” Daniela said. “[Finding him] was just relief, like I could breathe again.”

When she received the call from police Monday evening that her son had been found safe, Daniela grabbed her purse and ran out the door. Standing in Brenham, Texas with Wyatt’s favorite sour gummies in hand, she saw her son for the first time in two days.

Since reuniting with her son, Daniela said she hasn’t spoken with her ex-husband even though she said he did try to call her from jail. She said she feels sorry for him, adding she doesn’t think he recognizes the severity of what he did.

She expressed sorrow for the people police say Joshua hurt, as well as gratitude to everyone who shared information about Wyatt on social media. Seeing the outpouring of support gave her strength during the unthinkable, she said.

As for Wyatt, Daniela said he seems unbothered by the incident and is the same happy, smiley boy she last saw two days ago. Wearing his trademark Spider-Man suit and playing videos for his mom, Daniela said she is simply grateful that tonight, he is safe.

“I feel super blessed to have him back,” she said, smiling down at her son. “Super, super blessed.”
