Glad they have identified her. Now need to id the perp.
I figured you had something as you are usually on unless you have something else going on. And now phone problems, that bites. It will still be here when you are back on :)

Hope all is right and med appt. was not for anything serious.

No, just routine check up.
So Tara and Tatiana from 1997 so at least 28 years ago. Just Asian Doe left to id now.

Phone working now?
Finally managed to change a setting that has fixed it. Three hours it's been playing up. Was going to meet daughter for lunch but place was closed and i couldn't get my phone to work to tell her. I had switched it off during the drive and the appt. Then i couldn't call her to rearrange for sone reason. Luckily i walked around and saw her walking ahead of me. So we ate somewhere else. Amazing how we rely on our phones.

Long story short i need contact lenses for driving and they are not good for reading stuff on the phone so i think i changed a setting or something without realising it so it wouldn't ring out or receive.

The Gilgo Beach victims known only as 'Peaches' and her toddler daughter 'Baby Doe' have finally been named almost three decades after some of their remains were first found on Long Island.

US Army veteran Tanya Denise Jackson, 26, and her two-year-old daughter Tatiana Marie Dykes were identified in a bombshell press briefing held by Nassau County officials Wednesday.

The huge breakthrough comes after Tanya's dismembered torso - with ehr distinctive peach tattoo - was found in a Rubbermaid container in Hempstead Lake State Park, Lakeview, in 1997.

Around 14 years later - at the height of the search for Gilgo Beach serial killer victims - more of her remains and little Tatiana's skeletal remains were found along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach.

Now, 27 years on, the victims have names. Tanya was a 26-year-old single mother and US Army veteran originally from Alabama and living in Brooklyn, New York, at the time of her murder.

She served honorably in the military from July 1993 to February 1995, including at the Army bases Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia, and Fort Leonard Wood in the Missouri Ozarks.

While living in Brooklyn, she is believed to have been working at a doctor's office, officials said. She drove a black 1991 Geo Storm.

Her daughter Tatiana was born in Texas in March 1995 and was just two years old at the time of her death.

Suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann - who has so far been charged with the murders of seven women on Long Island between 1993 and 2010 - has not been charged in connection to their deaths.

Officials said at Wednesday's briefing that, while the victims have long been linked to the Gilgo Beach serial killer case due to where their remains were found, 'we are not discounting that [the murders] could be unrelated.'

A $25,000 Crimestoppers reward is now being offered for information leading to the perpetrator responsible for the mom and daughter's deaths.

Nassau County officials said they will continue to work closely with local and federal law enforcement agencies on the case, including Suffolk County - the jurisdiction leading the Gilgo Beach case.

'The reality is our work has just begun,' Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said at the briefing.

'Knowing the identifies of the mother and the baby is just a first step.'

She urged anyone who knew Tanya 'if you worked with her, if you met her at the grocery store, if you had an interaction with her please let us know.'

Officials also urged anyone who might have served with Tanya in the military to get in contact. She also had ties to Georgia.

'Help us solve this horrific, horrific crime,' DA Donnelly said.

Nassau County officials revealed that the mom and daughter had been identified 27 years on from their murders thanks to Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) - an investigative method first made famous in the Golden State Killer case.

The use of IGG eventually led investigators to family members who were able to be interviewed and additional DNA testing was then carried out.

The father of the child has also been identified, officials said.

At the time of their murders in 1997, Tanya was estranged from her family and the father of her child and so neither she nor the infant were reported missing.

Now, the mom and daughter's remains have been buried at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort, Alabama, with military honors.

'Today is a bittersweet day. Today after decades we are finally going to be able to tell you the identities of two victims back from 1997,' DA Donnelly said at the briefing.

'The mother's name was Tanya. The baby's name was Tatiana.'

When asked how long investigators had known the identities of Peaches and the toddler, Nassau County Commanding Officer of the Homicide Squad Stephen Fitzpatrick told DailyMail.com before the briefing: 'We had it for a while and been catching up on 27 years of investigation.'

It was June 28, 1997, when a hiker found the dismembered torso of a woman inside a black plastic bag in a Rubbermaid container dumped in a wooded area of Hempstead Lake State Park, Lakeview.

The woman's torso was found in this Rubbermaid container in June 1997. More of her remains were found in 2011

She was estimated to have been killed around three days earlier.

The woman had a distinctive heart-shaped tattoo of a peach on her left breast, earning her the nickname 'Peaches' or 'Jane Doe 3.'

Inside the container was also a floral patterned pillowcase and a red towel.

In 2011, some of the victim's other body parts were found off Ocean Parkway, in Jones Beach State Park, during the search for victims in the Gilgo Beach investigation. Her skull has never been found.

The skeletal remains of a toddler girl - dubbed Baby Doe - were also found along Ocean Parkway in April 2011.

DNA testing later determined that the infant was the woman's young daughter.

Similar gold jewelry was found with both victims' remains.

For decades, both of their identities remained a mystery with local police and the FBI seeking the public's help in identifying them.

Peaches was said to be black, aged 20 to 30 years old and had what appeared to be a Cesarean section scar.

In 2022, there appeared to be a lead in the quest to identify them when authorities in Alabama sought relatives of a dead man - Elijah 'Lige' Howell - in connection to the victims.

Glad you got it working. I am going to need a food/lunch story in the basement woman. Food details.

Yeah, when my daughter drives me to appts, sometimes I just leave my phone home as I know she has hers. But every time lol I end up wishing I had it, to know the time or for some reason. We do rely on them no doubt.

On top of all else I can't fit in, with all the med appts, etc., my eyes have changed, think I need a new prescription. I get that one.

Anyhow, glad you got it back working. Tech is both great PLUS a pain in the arse at the same time imo.

Of course, I want to know if the doctor's office where she worked was anywhere close to RH's office?

This really is bitter sweet. I hope they can give some more info about Tanya soon. I feel knowing that Sandra Costilla was linked to CB leaves me little room to think anyone but him did this.... but how would he have come into contact with her and her baby..... I need more info....
We don't know if she ended up involved in occasional sex work to make ends meet or not just that they believe she worked for a dr office

And I'm still teary.... have been overly emotional lately but that past few days are brutal.... this tho.... at least I'm not looking around the room saying why am I crying cuz at least I know.... it's just truly bitter sweet

I found it kind of odd they were vague about her working at a doctor's office. They said something like they think she did... And I think they said if anyone had ever seen her not only at a store but working at a med facility or some such to let them know...

I mean I would THINK they'd know if she did or didn't and at which doctor's... Just found that bit a little odd.

Certainly not easy to know if she and baby are CB's victims or not... At this point. Of course many never thought the ones from two different times periods were the same killer but now he's got victims from both times he is charged with...

No hint of her being a sex worker, at least at this point.

Kind of sad sounds like estranged from family, etc.

Not sure how to put this right but the nickname Peaches sounded almost like a sex worker name. I'm glad for just that reason even we have her real name now. Not that she may or may not have been, but seems no hint of it right now anyhow.

Just trying to sort my thoughts. People are bound to have known her, I mean they even asked anyone who served with her in the military or anything, to come forward. Seems clear they just want to know more about her at this point and her years.

Would CB take someone with a child or was this perhaps something more personal to someone? I'm guessing the baby carries the dad's last name as the last names are different...

I think that's all I've got. Thoughts?

Of course, I want to know if the doctor's office where she worked was anywhere close to RH's office?
They were soooo vague about just "thinking" she maybe worked at a doctor's office. Imo. I can't figure out why the vagueness about it...

Yeah I have the same thoughts honestly. I don't want to say she was a sex worker if she wasn't, but a medical worker and her child encountering CB I'm not so sure of. It doesn't exactly fit.

And I'm still teary.... have been overly emotional lately but that past few days are brutal.... this tho.... at least I'm not looking around the room saying why am I crying cuz at least I know.... it's just truly bitter sweet
Been the same way. When everyone is I figure some planet is in orbit or near us lol. I have been VERY teary, and anxious too. I cry at about anything, even the fictional show I've watched. Of course there are patients on it that die and such, but just saying triggers pretty easily lately. Don't feel bad about it, I am trying not to, I'd rather care like with that verdict yesterday, than be some clinical cold person with no feelings. However, I cry too easily at times, too soft maybe.

You (we) take in a lot of crime and that probably plays in. I find I need breaks from it at times but I am not always wise enough to recognize when. I hope you do SOMETHING else, I go to cooking, now watching some fiction show at times. Some probably play games, I did that in the past. Just have something else I'd say and go to it sometimes. You will still likely cry over things like this, I know it doesn't help me that way.

I'm glad you let us know about this by the way. THANK YOU.

I agree they were vague about the dr office as if they aren't sure. Definitely sad that she was estranged from family and baby's dad, That alone is why i think no one reported her missing.... but they have her address from brooklyn so how long were they gone before i am assuming this was a rental that a landlord didn't hear from anyone, nothing was paid and place was emptied.... they must know that....right?
I'm glad they were public with the address in case someone they couldn't locate that knows that address and knew her can come forward with even the smallest bit of info that may help.
I agree that the name Peaches could be a sex worker name too or even just a cute harmless nickname.... having ties to Georgia makes it make a little more sense but it could also be completely irrelevant. Could be something that only has meaning to her....
