‘We need to make sure that she’s OK’: Teen girl still missing, possible abductor in custody, Orange County deputies say

Orange County deputies said the teenage girl at the center of an Amber Alert is still missing after the man that was identified as her possible abductor was taken into custody Friday afternoon.

Cpl. Nikki Harper said the girl has not been identified and the Amber Alert is still active. She said the man who was taken into custody, Alexander Lopez, 44, has a long, violent criminal history and is not cooperating with investigators.

Harper said deputies want anyone who knows anything about Lopez or the girl seen in the video and photos released with the Amber Alert to call 911 or 1-888-356-4774.

Deputies arrest man in connection with AMBER Alert issued for 16-year-old girl

The Orange County Sheriff's Office arrested a man in connection with the AMBER Alert issued for a 16-year-old girl.

Deputies said they arrested Alexander Lopez.

They say he crashed into a retention pond and was quickly arrested.

Investigators held a news conference at around 4 p.m. on Friday.

Officials with the sex crime unit said just before 7 a.m., they received a call about a possible abduction on the east side of Orlando.

It involved a girl between the ages of 16 and 17.

Investigators say after 2 p.m., a witness spotted the suspected vehicle in SUV and called authorities.

Just before 3 p.m., officials said the suspect was arrested.

Earlier in the day on Friday, the sheriff's office released surveillance video of the man and the teenage girl at a gas station near Goldenrod Road.

The store clerk told deputies that the girl made concerning statements and that tipped off the clerk to alert authorities.

Shortly after deputies released the gas station surveillance video, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued the AMBER Alert for the girl.

They said they do not know where the girl is or who she is and the suspect is not being cooperative.

What we know about Alexander Lopez, the suspect connected to an Orange County Amber Alert

Deputies said Alexander Lopez, 44, has a long, violent criminal history and is not cooperating with investigators.

Deputies said Lopez was seen Friday morning by a clerk at the Sunoco station on South Goldenrod Road who said he and a teenage girl walked into the store.

According to the clerk, the man, believed to be Lopez, told him he had been partying with the girl and just learned she was underage.

Then the girl said she wanted to speak to the clerk alone, but the man wouldn't let her.

Deputies said they eventually left the store. The clerk saw what looked like a struggle in the car, so he called 911.

Friday afternoon, a silver SUV the man was in was spotted in Osceola County. Deputies followed it into Orange County, where it ended up in a pond.

That's when Lopez was taken into custody and charged with grand theft auto.

I hope they find her safe. Strikes me a bit odd. In the video he lets her walk away from him without a problem...? And why would he say to a clerk he was partying with her and just found out she was underaged? Prayers that she is alive and well.

Amber Alert canceled after girl believed to have been abducted seen on video 'seemingly safe'

An Amber Alert issued for a teenager believed to have been abducted in Orange County was canceled Friday evening. The announcement came a few hours after the arrest of a man being sought by authorities.

Following a tip, deputies later arrested Alexander Lopez, 44, after he crashed into a retention pond, but the girl was nowhere to be found. A couple of hours later, investigators said she was spotted on video and appeared to be safe.

"Detectives were made aware that she was spotted on video, not injured and seemingly safe, from a timeframe shortly before the suspect in this case was apprehended in south Orange County," the Sheriff's Office said.

Detectives still don’t know the girl’s identity and they would still like to talk with her to see if she was victimized in any way.

"She is not in any trouble; we would just like to know who she is and be able to confirm that she is safe," said a spokesperson with the Sheriff's Office.
