Got my Masters degree from here. :(

Killer who stabbed 4 Idaho students to death still at large

The killer — or killers — who stabbed four University of Idaho students to death remained at large Tuesday, prompting many students to leave the campus in the idyllic small town despite police assurances that there was no imminent risk to the community.

So many students had left the scenic tree-lined campus in Moscow, Idaho, by Tuesday that university officials said a candlelight vigil scheduled for the next day would instead be held after the Thanksgiving break.

The students, all close friends, were found dead in an off-campus rental home around noon on Sunday, and officials said they likely were killed several hours earlier. Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt told the Spokane, Washington-based television station KXLY that her preliminary investigation showed the students were stabbed to death. There is no indication that substance use was involved in the deaths, Mabbutt said.

So waiving all appeal rights, no DP for him but four consecutive life sentences plus sentencing on a smaller charge.

People planning on covering this trial next will have to look for a new one but that's okay.

I give this to the P, they kept sewing him up tighter and tighter.

Goncalves' family, in a Facebook page her parents created after the murders, condemned the deal, which spares Kohberger's life.

"We are beyond furious at the State of Idaho," a new post reads. "They have failed us. Please give us some time. This was very unexpected."

This is not good.

This is not good.

They are to be consulted but families have no veto power.

I'm for the DP in a case like this but he did give up appeals and it will save them a lot of grief but I'm not the parents and I can understand they'd feel that way.

I agree. It's a shame that they are so angry about the plea.. Hopefully they will accept is as being the right thing to do when given some time to think about it.

Oh, did they put that one off? She has a slew of new charges I know and those will likely be charged separate.y. I thought the murder trial is on.
Richins' murder trial is set for February 2026 after she was accused of killing Eric Richins with a lethal dose of fentanyl she allegedly slipped into a drink.

I found this in a report about the recent fraud charges. I guess that there's a thread for her here? I'll look for it.

I think its a fair plea deal. Why in the world put the families through the hell of a trial and relive that? He's going away for LIFE with no appeals.
Overall I am not in favor of deals but this one saves the families all the appeals and it is a STRONG sentence.

I understand Kaylee's family feels as they do but do they realize the chance a trial would take AND if convicted, continued appeals if no deal.

Yes. And you never know about juries nowadays. Sometimes even in really strong cases a single juror will cause a hung jury and force a retrial.

The family's then have to wait even longer for justice and closure.

I didn't even think about appeals if he was found guilty at trial and sentenced to death. In a death penalty case that would drag out for years.

He accepted a plea deal!

I heard about this while I was at work, but I couldn’t get online to tell you guys. I cannot believe it. Just can’t believe it. Not in a case like this one and not with the family’s blessing.

Seems that they would be glad to not have to hear all the gory details in court and no chance now of him finding that one juror .
Kohberger may have to explain in court exactly what he did and why he did it if it's part of the plea agreement. Not sure if I was a parent of these victims that I could want or handle knowing all the gory details.

Yes, this plea deal takes away any chance of problems that could derail a trial.
