Hi, just joined to say there was an update on this case in The Toronto Star in 2021. DNA was not a match for Dorothy Cox. The woman remains unidentified. I live in the area and have an interest in this case and can do any local research if needed. Who was the woman in the concrete floor? The unanswered questions behind one of Toronto’s oldest cold-case mysteries

I'll have to read on it if I get a minute but offhand one wouldn't think too many people would have access during the cement pouring... Owners, contractors, employees...? Did any of their wives or girlfriends go missing or were any known to be "seeing" anyone at the time or on the side...? I'm sure there might be some difficulty looking back that far for facts as she wasn't found until the 90s but many may still be alive or recall if a local business, etc...

“The case was selected in 2022 as part of the first group of Project 31 IGG investigations. Due to the age and degraded condition of the remains, numerous laboratory submissions were required before a suitable DNA profile was obtained in November 2024. Initial genealogy indicated Scottish ancestry originating in the Aberdeen area. Additional testing was conducted and the deceased was identified as Mary McLeod Moffat (nee Davidson) [born 1905].

…Historical records, family interviews, and evidence recovered from the burial site established that she was likely murdered in approximately April 1936.

Investigators determined that Mary's husband, Andrew Lloyd Moffat, later abandoned her, entered into multiple additional marriages, and operated a tire business adjacent to the location where her remains were discovered decades later.

Further investigation revealed that Moffat later assumed the alias Drake Lloyd Cummings and lived in the United States and Vancouver, before his death in 1985…investigators identified…Moffat aka…Cummings as the primary suspect...”
