Fremont family goes missing hours after bizarre 911 call

Investigators are looking for a Fremont family, worried that no one has seen them for four days and about recent erratic behavior from the father.

No one has seen nor heard from Anthony, Suzette, Brandon and Noah Cirigliano since Sunday, police said Thursday.

“We don’t see any signs of violence, we don’t see any signs of foul play right now. There’s no signs of struggle inside the home,” Fremont Police Department Chief Tim Rodwell told News 8. “But everyone we’ve talked to … they all describe this to be extremely abnormal behavior from Tony and Suzette.”

The family left behind Suzette Cirigliano’s mother, who has dementia and needs full-time care. She was found walking around the neighborhood around 9 p.m. Monday, Rodwell said. Neighbors called police. That’s when the search began.

The home’s doors were locked and the family’s minivan was gone. Pets were left behind. There’s no sign of Tony Cirigliano’s cellphone, though relatives told News 8 that his wife’s was still in the house. Police said the family’s phones were off.

“Tony was exhibiting some signs of paranoia” shortly before the family vanished, Rodwell said.

The chief said Tony Cirigliano called 911 just after midnight Sunday and two officers went to his home. He was talking about the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and wanted to talk to the FBI.

“It’s not normal behavior or normal interactions we have with the community,” Rodwell said.

The officers spent about 45 minutes to an hour talking to Tony Cirigliano and his wife to make sure everyone was safe and “that mental illness wasn’t putting anybody in jeopardy,” Rodwell said. He said the two were told they should call police again if they were concerned about anything.

Relatives told News 8 they do not think Tony Cirigliano would hurt his family and rather believe that he may be trying to protect them. They said he was troubled over the weekend and said “bad things” were going to happen.

Tony Cirigliano, 51, stands 5-foot-6 and weighs around 180 pounds. He has brown hair and is clean-shaven. Suzette Cirigliano, also 51, is 5-foot-9 and 120 pounds with blonde hair and glasses. Brandon Cirigliano, 19, is 5-foot-8 and about 120 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Noah, 15, is 5-foot-6 and about 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Both Brandon and Noah have autism, police say.

oh yah! :shower:

Still weird, leaving pets and grandma behind.
My personal position on that is we don't know every single detail of the arrangements. Unfortunately, I have a lot of experience with an extremely difficult elderly person. I prefer to hear (and see) both sides before I make a judgment call.

That's where I am. Did they make arrangements that fell through for whatever reason? IF they made no arrangements, then I have a problem.

The found disoriented and confused and descriptions from the neighbors (?) tells me that they should have been made. Maybe not for an hour or so, but to be gone for days seems like it. Why wouldn't they have checked in with her?
What I read was she walked across the street to the neighbors and had a pretty lucid conversation. I'm doing stuff right now, but will try to find that info.

The family's cellphones have all been turned off and they left behind their pets as well as Suzette's elderly mother, who has dementia and requires full-time care, police said. The grandmother, who lives with them, was found disoriented in the neighborhood on Oct. 17 and police were unable to reunite her with the family. She is now being cared for by other relatives, according to Fremont Police Chief Tim Rodwell.

:sigh: Sounds like they made contact with them and let them go.

Police said that all four family members were interviewed, according to the television station. Detectives said the family is “still of the opinion that people are after them, but the elements of the investigation do not meet the criteria for protective custody.”

First off, glad they are safe of course.

The "family" thinks someone is after them? It isn't just him that thinks so? That shows imo an influence and possibly control of the others.

On the other hand, imagine someone was really after you, you know it and no one believes you. I guess it is possible although unlikely.

I wonder how a family can afford to uproot their life and travel.

The other day in a chat someone kept saying they are in Wisconsin. The channel kept talking of them heading probably to Canada and the person in the chat kept repeating I'm telling you they are heading to Wisconsin... Not sure what that was about or why they kept saying that/thinking that?

And here they are found in Wisconsin.

I guess I can see where they can't arrest or hold someone if all believe this and are with him voluntarily. And apparently he isn't the only one who believes someone is after them.

Aside from mental issues, too much isolation can lead to some paranoia. It sounds as if they did isolate and home schooling on top of it.

What is in Stevens Point one has to wonder and why did they go there?

It is a shame where the pets and mother are concerned. It does sound like they abandoned her and I think little of that. Couldn't even call another family member or tell LE when he called them out that someone else was going to need to take care of her so she was covered?

And neglecting or abandoning pets is chargeable.

Not saying he/they should be charged, what I am getting at is apparently other family is likely caring for all and they are concerned for them.

So do they own their home and are just going to abandon it or they just figure someone will take care of that until they return too?

I wonder what Michigan's rules on home schooling are. In WI all you pretty much have to do is say you are going to home school and you can with little to no other issues to do so.

Anyhow, I'm not getting at anything. Just pondering and wondering. Early morning quiet time and thoughts.

In regards to financing...most likely they have SSDI coming in for the boys and possibly even for themselves so that would bring in some $$. Hopefully the mother they left behind's $$ is safe from them for her. I would think abandoning her AND the pets would be chargeable.

I'm glad they were found and unharmed. I hope anyone that needs help gets it.

Was nice chatting and researching with everyone.
That’s a good way of putting it. I do hope they were able to give them some resources for if they need help in the future.

If he is worried though about being followed, watched or tracked online, etc. he isn't going to access a bank account and you are not going to continue to get that monthly check without providing info on a new address, etc. or using your card or bank account.

I think both are chargeable but mom might depend on whether they had "legal" custody and care of her and pets if family realized quickly and took care of and no harm came to, probably not.

I don't know that he/they should be charged, I am just surprised the investigation would be closed as they say unless it isn't. Other family probably though stepped up with mom it sounds like and maybe the pets too and if all members of the traveling group claim they are traveling of their own free will I guess there probably isn't a lot more they can do.

I pray too they get the help they need or he does or all do depending on what is what or they find out who is after them and charge that person... I mean wouldn't they at least do that to ensure the family is safe if they still think such a thing...? Wouldn't they either take them in on a hold for help or if they don't, get to the bottom of it? If this is someone who did have some kind of mental break, then nothing has been fixed as he or all of them still think it and what will he or they likely do next? How do they say the family is safe or society is safe if that is the case?

He's obviously being tracked somehow though. The monthly checks aren't checks, they are direct deposits and nobody's been gone long enough to do anything about any kind of address change. I don't remember if it has been said how they paid for their gas station trip. That would answer some various questions I have - if they paid cash or not. I hadn't thought about it until now. He could have been stashing cash in preparation for this for all we know.

I'm glad mom and pets are safe and evidently the family is safe "enough"? I guess this has worked out as good as it could so far, at least. Who knows, maybe the dad isn't so crazy after all???

That is one thing I wonder about. Not so crazy, no mental break. To me that is almost more worrisome.

I have wondered about bank accounts and cash from the start. It also said somewhere nothing was packed or taken, all was in their home or so it sounded. I could be wrong but I think more may come of this one, it takes some time to move for LE or do much re bank accounts, cell records, etc. The phones were off. If I recall hers was at home (why?) and his was with but shut off. So IF the fear is what he really feels then he wouldn't want to use a bank account, debit card, etc. IF he is thinking rationally which again brings the question back to a mental break or not?

I truly don't have a reason to think one thing or the other but there aren't answers here in any way shape or form. And no real security all are safe with him or from him. Everyone may be but unless LE knows something we don't (of course they do but I mean major convincing) I would think and hope an investigation is still going on.

I mean next he could think the people after him are outside a store he is in and who knows what he would do to protect his family or self?

Just saying, this isn't an answer.

However, I AM ELATED they are all safe last known. Contact has been established and they likely don't want this going too much more online if he is that paranoid so to provide info wouldn't be good maybe.

One last thing--they DEFINITELY got gas somewhere again between the UP and Stevens Point, WI. For sure. Unless he filled gas cans at that stop or had some with. This is NOT a short trip. It may not be Michigan to like Florida but they have went quite a distance.
