ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Teacher went missing. She was out for a job on the university campus. She has two small daughters. Forced into a vehicle. She is a billion $$ heiress or will be if I caught that right.

They have taken things from the house (LE). Are they considering the husband maybe and/or they do have to rule him out... Took her computer and some other things.

I wonder if this is accurate

This reporter is following closely.

Discussion on the above.

I don't know. When I googled it showed it was an hour before, just before I posted it. There was also a podcast on it but before the news of someone detained and the vehicle found but I didn't link that here. Haven't had a chance to listen to it all anyhow. Sounds like there were some marital problems.

There was a suspect vehicle they thought forced her in though and the YT video (Police Off the Cuff) were talking of wouldn't maybe take long to find the vehicle with video and license plate readers etc...

I'm not claiming to be up on all the facts--just seemed like a case that is a big deal right now in that area and more. I considered a thread but didn't know enough and it may be solved tomorrow so I put it here.

I don't even have words for how sick of this I am, how much I doubt most of them and how absolutely devastatingly heartbreaking it is!!!

I can believe parents who are overwhelmed and multi tasking can have a blip of a moment or even a few but the ones where it is hours NO. Unless very young and more. Even then, NO.

I need to point out I haven't read thr link/this case, I am cleaning and multitasking but even so I know that Frank and Snit are in here, safe, and not in a hot CAR!!!!

When a defense works ONCE then it is always tried....

Talking these cases in general. Again, haven't read the details on this one....

He admitted he did it on purpose after he gave different versions of what happened.

Jog. I know it was a typo.

But Cleotha Abston isn't talking. He has the answer. And unfortunately I believe it will be recovering her body. Killers love to do it. It's the last thing they have control over. And it's very telling when a perpetrator won't talk. Silence speaks very loudly. He should still be in prison for a 24 yr sentence and an 11 yr sentence. IDK if they were concurrent. It happened in 2001. That's not 24 yrs. Early parole. Should have been in prison until 2025. Again. System fail.

Constant system failures or at least there is no truth in sentencing. 20 or 25 years is NOT 20 or 25 years. Most serve just a percentage of it. It never ENDS. We may or may not have more crime but take away repeat released offenders and I wonder where the figures would stand...

He didn't get early parole. He had to serve a certain % of his term (80 or 85% I can't remember).
