Madera police searching for missing 2-year-old boy possibly in danger

Officials say Thaddeus Sran disappeared from his home on C Street between 10 p.m. on Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Madera 2-year-old missing, Police Chief: 'We're not ruling anything out'

The Madera Police Department held a news conference Wednesday afternoon where Police Chief Dino Lawson said he has reached out to the FBI who is assisting with the investigation into the disappearance of 2-year-old Thaddeus Sran.

When asked why there has been no Amber Alert issued, Chief Lawson said, "We're not there yet."

The chief also said the Madera County Sheriff's Department is also assisting with the investigation.

"Everything is on the table. We're looking at everything. We're not ruling anything out," said Chief Lawson.

Police say the 2-year-old child went missing overnight from his home on “C” Street sometime between 10:00 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Thaddeus was born premature and has a feeding tube and is non-verbal.

Thaddeus did recently learn to walk and it's unknown if he was able to walk away or if he was taken.

Police say Thaddeus needs special care and needs to be reunited with his family as soon as possible.

He was last seen wearing a red shirt and Spiderman pants with a diaper underneath. He is approximately two feet tall and weighs 30 pounds.

Police are looking into the possibility that Thaddeus was abducted.

Madera County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshall’s, Federal Bureau of Investigations, and Madera County Probation are assisting with a search and investigation.

Thaddeus Sran’s parent’s attorney: ‘When the boy disappeared I was shocked’

The parents of Thaddeus Sran were arrested Friday in connection to his death. They will be arraigned early next week.

Their attorney Roger Nuttall said he needs more information on the case, but he’s worked with this couple before and does not believe they could do this.

Nuttall represented Briseida and Sukhjinder Sran about 5 years ago when their infant daughter died.

“I got to liking them because I got to know them real well. So, when this happened — simply when the boy disappeared I was shocked,” he said.

Nuttall said medical records showed their daughter was premature and in fragile health and the case was closed.

Legal analyst Charles Magill said it may not stay that way.

“That case will be examined and it will also be a consideration that I’m sure the prosecution is going to be using in determining the reason to believe they committed the murder of this child,” he said.

Magill said the fact Thaddeus had special needs will come into play.

“I would suspect that it would be very hard for the parents to claim that this child just disappeared and they didn’t recognize that he was gone, since he wouldn’t be able to walk away from them,” he said.

He said the defense will want everything, including the law enforcement investigation records, fingerprints, photographs and coroner’s report, and they may even request their own to be done.

He said the district attorney will likely ask for life without parole and said the Sran’s have great council, calling Nuttall one of the area’s top defense attorneys.

“My respect for him is immense and I would expect that his expertise is going to come into play really heavily here. So I would expect that this is going to be a battle from beginning to end,” he said.

Nuttall said even though he’s representing both parents now as the case moves along he’ll only be representing one. Right now, he expects it to be the mother.

Wasn't sure if this was posted, however it gives a bit more detail about the other sibling who passed.

The lawyer is certainly talking a lot.
Article also mentions that the family was investigated in regards to Thaddeus in 2019.

I posted a pic of the father earlier but now here is both of them.

I don't like to throw parents or anyone under the bus because who knows, but the daughter apparently had evidence of other abuse on her body, however, I cannot corroborate that but I read it in the very same place and by the very same people that I read they had lost a daughter previously so I will give it some weight or possible weight to it as that part turned out to be entirely true. They are also both under arrest for murder of Thaddeus so to me that means LE feels they have a strong case against both at least with thiss one child.

I am still trying to be careful and not judge unfairly but I will say this, the attorney's statement that the mother was at the hospital with the daughter also means absolutely nothing to me. The perp or one responsible often is, which is downright scary if one thinks about it... It is not at all unusual unfortunately.

There was a case some years ago in WI when the MN bridge collapsed. A couple on it I believe was going to see their daughter (life support, I can't recall all of the details)... The two things together made a very sympathetic story (they had this terrible scare on the bridge and were already dealing with this terrible tragedy)... Until of course, it came out that he did it...

I don't know, other than we will find out more in coming days and weeks and months i suppose...

Jmo.

Sounds to me like the daughter in this case of a few years ago had similar injuries on her, from someone... Thankfully, apparently not a major head injury but she died regardless... All of them are tragic beyond belief. Such cases send me off a bit, so enough said by me. Back to enjoying the breeze...

Madera police conduct more interviews in case of Thaddeus Sran, charges could be filed Tuesday

Authorities in Madera say "significant interviews" took place Monday in the case of Thaddeus Sran.

Forty-two-year-old Sukhjinder Sran and 29-year-old Briseida Sran are both booked in jail on suspicion of murder and could be formally charged Tuesday.

Moreno explains, "We have until tomorrow to file, so we're going to wait until we have all the information we can have. It's our ethical obligation here at the District Attorney's office to only file those things we know we can prove, and we want to make sure we have as much information as we can so that we get it right."

Action News obtained court documents filed in 2017 by another man with whom she shares a child.

In the request for more visitation, the father says the boy and his siblings were previously removed by CPS and quote "no charges were filed against her.

"I feel like if she can get away with that situation, she is capable of getting away with other stuff as well." However, the father's request was denied.

Autopsy results for the body believed to be Thaddeus have not yet been released.

Parents of 2-year-old Thaddeus Sran charged with murder, assault in 1st court appearance

Sukhjinder and Briseida Sran faced a judge over a video feed at the Madera County Courthouse Tuesday, just hours after the District Attorney's office filed two felony counts against the couple for their young son's death.

Sally Moreno says, "We filed murder charges against the mother and father of Theo, and we also filed in accordance with Adam's Law. It's child abuse leading to the death of a child under the age of 8, and it's a 25-year to life count."

A defense attorney standing in for Roger Nuttall requested the arraignment be pushed back one day to give him time to review the complaint.

Moreno says, "There are no autopsy results yet. We're still waiting to hear, but burning will have an effect on the state of the evidence."

Moreno says it's possible more charges could be added as the case evolves. The Srans are each being held in jail on a $1 million bail.

Madera parents plead not guilty in the death of their 2-year-old son

Thaddeus Sran’s parents officially pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday after their lawyer requested to push back the arraignment to get more time to review the complaint.

The Madera County District Attorney’s Office filed its criminal complaint Tuesday, charging them with the murder of their 2-year-old son, as well as assault on a child less than 8-years-old.

Their arrest came on the heels of authorities finding the remains of a child on Road 20 near Avenue 14 on Thursday morning. While the body has still not been positively identified as Thaddeus Sran, Madera Police Chief Dino Lawson has said they strongly believe it to be the missing child.

Sukhjinder Sran and Briseida Sran are being represented by criminal defense attorney Roger Nuttall. Their next court date is Aug. 5. It is a pre-preliminary hearing as well as a bail review hearing.

Right now, both are being held on $1 million bail.

Madera mayor to propose renaming children's park after 2-year-old Thaddeus Sran

The mayor of Madera will propose a new tribute to two-year-old Thaddeus Sran, who was killed last month.

Mayor Andy Medillin plans to ask the city council to name a playground area for children with special needs after Thaddeus Sran at Wednesday's meeting.

The Srans are scheduled to be back in court for a hearing and bail review on Wednesday.

The Madera City Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

City of Madera dedicates playground to Thaddeus Sran

The Madera City Council voted Wednesday to dedicate a playground to Thaddeus Sran.

“Young Thaddeus in so many ways affected all of us,” said Madera Mayor Andrew J. Medellin. “I know he’s in heaven looking down, knowing that he was loved by so many people in our community.”

The playground dedicated to Thaddeus is at Centennial Park near Flume and 5th Street.

“This will be a forever reminder of young Thaddeus and children just like him that this park was built and meant and now dedicated to him,” said Medellin.

Thaddeus had special needs himself, and the playground to be all-inclusive, with features like wheelchair ramps for kids with disabilities.

“The Centennial Park playground was built specifically for children like Thaddeus. It was designed to be used by children with a wide range of physical abilities, where children and their families could enjoy the health, social, educational, enhanced self-esteem benefits of outdoor physical play,” said one city leader at the meeting Wednesday.

“The kids with the disabilities will feel equal to the other kids there because they’re able to with their wheelchairs go through the slides, we can get them up on the top, and we were able to slide them down,” said Madera resident Victoria Castaneda.

She said some community members are also planning to start a non-profit organization in Thaddeus’ name to help child victims of domestic violence.

Looks like the father has a new attorney and the prelim for the murder trial is set to begin on October 30, 2020. I am assuming by the way this reads they are both being trialed together. I wonder if it will be made public anywhere I would like to watch it just to see the reactions of these two in the court room and find out just what evidence the prosecution has on the case.

I too if this is made public would like to know about it and watch. This case was so heartbreaking and sent alarm bells up from the start.

Thank you for the info.

Here is the lastest information that I can find on the first court appearance. Seems like this case is going to be a long road to a verdict.

At least they are where they belong in the meantime and hopefully they stay there throughout the long process.
