Indiana police say the parents of missing Indiana 14-year-old Scottie Dean Morris allegedly forced him to take a photo wearing a T-shirt with "demeaning" words but are now "heartbroken" that their son seemingly vanished and has been unaccounted for nearly a week as of Wednesday.

<snip>
In first announcing Morris was missing, the Eaton Indiana Police Department shared a photo to its official Facebook page showing the teen with a shaved head and wearing a white T-shirt with handwritten demeaning words, including "I’m a liar," "hurt" and "cheat." The department later took it down and shared a more cropped version of the image showing just Morris’ buzzcut and face.

WPTA said Turner confirmed Morris’ parents forced him to wear the shirt as a form of punishment, but the chief added that the shaved head was allegedly the teen’s idea. "They went to Great Clips and that’s what he told them he wanted," Turner said in an on-camera interview with the outlet Monday.

"But the shirt – it was kind of unorthodox. It was disturbing. And we’re looking into that," Turner said.

The chief said the now-deleted image caused speculation to spread on social media.

WPTA reporter Alex Null said in his report that the chief insisted Morris’ parents are "heartbroken" and asked that people respect their privacy. "They were beat up pretty bad on social media, and right now, they’ve cooperated the entire time with us," Turner said, referring to Morris’ parents.

EATON, Ind. — A week after Scottie Dean Morris went missing from his family's Eaton home, hundreds of local residents gathered to light candles in his honor and pray for the 14-year-old boy's safe return.

Morris, a student at Delta Middle School, has not been seen since leaving his home on the evening of March 16.

On Thursday evening, residents gathered outside the Grace and Mercy Full Gospel Church, 301 E. Harris St., for a candlelight vigil and a march to nearby Norseman Park, where they prayed for the teen's return and tied green ribbons around a large wooden cross.

Before the march, many residents sat quietly in the church's sanctuary, where a large display that featured candles and photos of Scottie Morris had been set up.

EATON, Ind. — After eight days, a missing teenager was back in Eaton on Friday night, alive and reportedly well.

Details of the events leading to 14-year-old Scottie Dean Morris' return were not immediately available. He was reportedly at the Eaton Police Department with family members.

At 10:58 p.m., Eaton police posted on Facebook that "Scottie has been located and found safe!'

"Medics are checking him out right now and we will be conducting interviews."

About 11:30 p.m., Eaton Police Chief Jay Turner told The Star Press Scottie would be taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie "to be checked out head to toe."

<snip>
About 3 a.m., however, the chief said his department had worked with the Indiana Department of Child Services and that "Scottie has been placed in another home for the evening."

Turner said interviews would be resuming later in the day.

Whew! I was quite concerned for him.

On Friday night the Eaton Indiana Police Department revealed they had found the teen in a central part of Eaton - around a five-minute walk away from the street where he went missing.

Records show the street is the location of the family's last known address.

By 11:30 p.m., Eaton Police Chief Jay Turner told The Star Press that Scottie will be taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital for a full body exam.

Turner did not say how the teen was found by an Easton officer Friday night, according to the Star Press. Morris was reportedly speaking with his mother when an officer found him.

By 3 a.m., chief said that his department and Indiana Department of Child Services worked together and that "Scottie has been placed in another home for the evening."

The family is cooperating with the investigation, according to police.

It SOUNDS as if he may have been with other family. He was at the family's former address so I'm thinking that may be a sibling, grandparents, etc. OR the home was empty and he went there but I think more likely with family as it said he was the PD with family members. And I'm not sure they mean his mom, he was on the phone with his mom but it never said he was with her....

Just a total guess based on those couple of remarks...

In any case he must have been somewhere inside, he couldn't have survived the low temperature outside. And if he stayed with somebody, why was he still wearing that shirt? How will he move on with his family after this? In school? I hope there will be some serious therapy happening.

Per the police scanner (I'll try to find it), Scottie was "with mom", not merely on the phone with her.

Rumors are that neighbors heard arguing and called in a welfare check. When police arrived, there was Scottie and mom. Same clothes he disappeared in.

Well if he was with mom and went in with mom to the PD then it leaves that he was found at the family's former address or near there. If he was in the same clothes then one would think he had no one else around and maybe the former home is vacant...? But then why isn't that one of the first places you'd look for him? Maybe it is bad reporting but I am certain it said the family's former address. Maybe with a neighbor or someone he knew from when they lived there...?

Watch it be a total mess up in reporting. That could be the case but it did say such.

Of course we are not entitled to learn more about this, but dang, I am so curious!🙈
But he’s alive and still has a chance to live a happy life. Good luck, Scottie!❤️
There are definitely some serious questions. Teenagers can put their parents at wit's end but in the same breath, putting a shirt on him like that is highly questionable. The dynamics at the very least in the family are problematic or the family needs help, both the parents and the child before things get worse.

It could be a sign of more issues and abuse but could also be just not knowing how to handle things and communicate. I think generation gaps are growing wider as things change so fast in the world for these kids.

BUT that shirt alone and his leaving is enough to not put that child back in the home until all is looked into, he is interviewed apart from them and if just not the best family situation but there is basic safety, etc., but jsut an overload, resources are provided.

I don't know what I am saying. I guess I am saying LE even says or the Chief this is a family who cares about their son. Yet look at that shirt. So something more is here or help is needed I guess is what I am saying. Hopefully it isn't the worst of the worst.

I am so GLAD he is alive and SAFE and sure hope he stays that way. It is up to LE and CPS to hopefully do a GOOD job and ensure whether he is or isn't if returning home.
