SANDRA BIRCHMORE: MA vs. Matthew Farwell for 2021 murder and cover-up *TRIAL IN PROGRESS*

I used to start a fair amount of case threads but life has me not doing so in quite awhile. The title will likely need more info, date, etc. and an intro.

I don't know enough yet to have an opinion but keep running into this case. Of course it jump started due to being the same area as Karen Read with LE involvement and yet nothing about them is similar. Night and day different.

An issue I have with cases of suicides or drownings, some various things like that is when they rule such accidental or suicide when it cannot be known. Not saying they aren't right in a lot of cases but short of solid proof it is such, I think they should in many cases be ruled undetermined.

It seems this one is heating up and I think a thread should be started but a mod may have to tweak my title and intro.

Prosecution expert testifies Sandra Birchmore was strangled, crime scene was altered

Forensic Doctor William Smock, an expert witness for the prosecution, told jurors Tuesday, “Ms. Birchmore was the victim of a homicidal act.”

Dr. Smock said Birchmore’s cause of death was asphyxia related to strangulation and her manner of death was homicide.

Birchmore was found dead in her Canton apartment, seated on the ground, with a duffel bag strap ligature around her neck that was attached to her bedroom closet door.

Doctor Smock came to the conclusion that, “This is an altered crime scene and that she was killed before the ligature was tied around the door.”

Part of Smock’s testimony focused on a bone in the neck, called a hyoid bone.

Smock said Birchmore’s hyoid bone was fractured inward and that fracture was on the right side, yet her neck was tilted to the left.

He said this is not consistent with a partial hanging.

“This is consistent with a strangulation where the bone is squeezed inward,” said Dr. Smock.

Birchmore was also found with a red imprint on her right upper chest.

Smock said that mark was made by a clasp on the ligature strap pressing on her, but also said the clasp was tied around the doorknob when she was found.

He said it tells him the injury occurred before it was tied up.

Smock said that Birchmore’s hair being in the ligature is also a major “red flag.”

Sandra Birchmore trial could expose wider police misconduct

As the murder trial of former Massachusetts police officer Matthew Farwell nears closing arguments, a journalist who attended the weeks-long proceedings says the case could lead to additional investigations and prosecutions involving other officers.

Journalist Michele McPhee, who has covered the trial, told “Brian Entin Investigates” the proceedings have raised questions about why authorities failed to pursue allegations of sexual abuse involving Farwell and other officers years earlier.

McPhee said she believes additional prosecutions could follow even if Farwell is acquitted or the trial ends with a hung jury.

“I don’t think this case ends with Matthew Farwell in a verdict. I think there’s much more to come,” McPhee said.

Sandra Birchmore, Karen Read cases to be reviewed by incoming DA

The district attorney involved in the Karen Read and Sandra Birchmore cases will be replaced.

Democrat Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey did not run for reelection and is subsequently to be replaced by Djuna Perkins, who said her run for DA was inspired by outrage at Morrissey’s work.

“Let’s restore justice in Norfolk County… I think we’ve all lost faith in the criminal justice system. And I think that taints all other aspects of government,” Perkins said following her midterm victory, via WCVB.

“Everybody’s going to be interviewed. I want to make sure that everyone in the office is ready to adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards,” she said.

As they should!

I’m glad they’re not just going to move along and forget about it! We need to clean up these offices that are corrupt so we can get corrected law and order again.

We might now have many officers left if they got rid of all of the corrupt ones! (kinda kidding)

Now people might understand what I've been saying about LE agencies for years now. My first thought on it is look into those that refuse to wear body cams first. There is no GOOD reason they wouldn't. It could very well exonerate them against false claims. We know those happen, too.

I've seen clips where body cameras have saved the reputation of a police officer!

I would think it would be uncomfortable to be at my work and have cameras all the time. But in that kind of a situation, I think I would embrace it.

Why would you care if your being watched. Walmart and other business' have their employees under constant surveillance. A cop's job is far more important.

For the last 10 years or so, you are being watched nearly everywhere you go. Might as well accept it. My ONLY problem with the flock cameras is how many people could access them with no oversight as to who had access or for what reasons and too many bad LE used them for nefarious reasons.
