Search intensifies for missing Catawba County woman

Robin M. Doyle, 58, was reported missing on Tuesday from a home on 33rd Street NE in Hickory, located in the Crestmont development, deputies said.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office stated that her disappearance is suspicious.

Doyle was last seen by a family member around 5 p.m. on Monday, the day before deputies responded to the report.

Her car was found at the home where she lives with her father.

Elbert Short, her father, says she worked early, and when he saw it in the driveway, he called her phone and found it there, as well.

Elbert Short says he called for help Tuesday morning after finding the back door to his home open and bricks scattered on the walkway.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office initiated the investigation into her disappearance.

“I’m worried,” Short said. “I’m worried. Something is wrong. She wouldn’t have left the door open, and she wouldn’t have left her phone here.”

Doyle worked as a manager at the Propst store on Springs Road, arriving at around 4 a.m. every morning, seven days a week. She was well-known by her customers.

Her coworkers say she’d never miss work.

“None of it makes sense,” Sherri Hefner said. “She’s very dependable. She would have been here at work or let someone know.”

Person of interest named in Catwaba County woman's disappearance

Authorities have named a person of interest in the case of a missing Catawba County woman.

Investigators believe Robin Doyle, 58, was kidnapped from her home on 33rd Street Northeast in Hickory on Tuesday. Leroy Loper, 54, is now a person of interest in her disappearance.

Loper has not been charged in connection with Doyle's disappearance, but authorities are seeking information from anyone who saw him between Monday and Wednesday.

Catawba County deputies arrested Loper on Wednesday for unrelated sex offender registry violations. Loper was convicted of first-degree kidnapping and second-degree forcible sexual offense in 2018.

Loper is being held in Catawba County jail with a $200,000 bond.

The FBI, North Carolina SBI, and Surry County Sheriff's Office are assisting the Catawba County Sheriff's Office with the investigation.

The sheriff’s office is asking for anyone with information about Leroy Allen Loper to contact the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office. Specifically, investigators are seeking information from anyone who may have seen and/or interacted with Loper in Catawba County, Surry County, and all points in between from July 27 until Loper’s arrest on the evening of July 29.

Investigators suspect that Doyle was possibly kidnapped from her residence on July 28.

According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, investigators have found the deceased body of an adult female in a wooded area in Northeastern Catawba County. Following leads throughout the night into this morning, Sheriff’s investigators have been working to find the body of Robin Doyle, who was reported missing earlier this week. These leads have led investigators to the discovery of this body.

Sheriff’s Investigators are working with agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to confirm the identity of the body.
