Police investigate Hendricks County woman's death as homicide

CLAYTON, Ind. — Hendricks County sheriff's deputies are investigating a homicide in Clayton, Indiana.
Officers received the call Friday, July 14 in 2100 block of East County Road 600 South, near Belleville.
Investigators found a deceased female inside the residence, who has been identified as 62-year-old Rebecca Maners, from Clayton.

A sheriff's department spokesperson called it an ongoing homicide investigation conducted by their department, along with the county coroner.

Anyone with information about the incident or who may have seen something unusual in the area prior to the time officers responded is asked to contact Sgt. Chandler at the Hendricks County sheriff’s investigations division at 317-745-9354 and reference case number 23-6272.

Our mom, Becky Maners, should still be here with us!
In the late hours of July 13 to the early hours of 14, 2023, her life was violently taken inside her home in Belleville, Indiana. She was a mother, a grandmother, and a dedicated advocate who spent years volunteering to support mental health in Hendricks County. She also loved her children’s teammates as they played and even her daughters team members as she coached them throughout the years. She gave so much love to those teams. And never asked for anything in return. The person who took her away is still walking free and enjoying whatever team they are rooting for.
Our family has had to live without answers for too long. We refuse to let her case fade into the background. Someone out there knows who did this. We are begging anyone with information—even a rumor you heard, a conversation you remember, or something that just felt "off" that summer—to finally speak up. Please share this post. Hendricks County homicide victim was longtime mental health champion

Mental Health America of Hendricks County is asking for the public’s help in solving the homicide of their long-time board member and past president, Rebecca "Becky" Maners.

According to police Maners, 62, of Clayton died by homicide on Friday, July 14.

“The senseless crime that took the life of Becky, our Past Board President will have a major impact on the people our agency serves,” said Lael Hill, Executive Director of Mental Health America of Hendricks County.

Mental Health America of Hendricks County is pleading with the public to contact the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department at 317-745-4033 if they have any information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

"Becky was a champion in promoting mental wellness and suicide prevention in Hendricks County," said Deana Carter, Director of Operations and Volunteer Retention. She was with MHAHC for 8 years.

The organization said Becky raised over 50,000 dollars for the mission of MHAHC, offered leadership and strategic insight, and enjoyed attending many community events, including the annual Night Out Against Crime on the first Tuesday of every August.

“She had an infectious smile and was always the first to arrive and last to leave at community service events,” the organization said in a news release to WRTV. “Her endless sharing of thoughts, talents, and advice made her a beloved hero in our community.”

Mental Health America of Hendricks County said Becky also worked at TKO Graphics for 23 years.

Hendricks County S.O. continuing to investigate July 2023 homicide of Clayton Woman

The Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to seek information regarding a homicide investigation that left a Clayton woman dead in July 2023.

According to previous reports, 62-year-old Rebecca Maners was found dead on July 14, 2023, at her home near Belleville. In the initial investigation, officials with the office said at the time that they were looking to speak with a person who drove a “white full-sized pickup truck and gave a westbound ride to another person in Belleville” on July 14.

In an update on Monday, officials said that during the initial homicide investigation, detectives processed the crime scene “for countless hours, completing an exhaustive search of the scene and surrounding area.”

“Forensic analysis of the evidence will persist as technology continues to evolve in the field of forensic analysis,” the update read. “We appreciate the steadfast assistance of our investigative partners at the FBI and the Indiana State Police.”

In a statement from Maners’ son Matthew provided to FOX59/CBS4, the statement read:

Our mom was a kind and generous women that loved life and lived to the fullest. She loved us deeply and we love her. Her favorite activities were attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, school functions, babysitting, volunteering and traveling. It breaks our hearts to think about all the moments she has missed and will miss in our lives. She made everyone around her feel loved and heard. Nothing can compare to the sadness our family is feeling. Our precious mother was taken in the most evil way and our lives have been shaken. Leaving us with so many questions – who, how and why did this happen to her. Trying not to let our minds run wild with all the unanswered questions. We are struggling to process this nightmare and it has affected all of our mental health in ways we had never understood before. We’ve had to reevaluate our sense of safety and look at the world very differently. Our mom did not deserve this. We can’t say enough about what a wonderful friend, mother and grandmother she was. It is our mission to bring her honor and fight for justice. We know that our mom is with Jesus now, she is resting in peace. But our hearts will always miss her and we know we will see her again someday in Heaven.

We would like to thank our community, friends and family for being supportive, respecting our privacy and loving us well. To detective Chandler, we appreciate all your hard work, sleepless nights and taking our phone calls anytime, anywhere. You have been a rock for us to lean on.
