Young Woman Still Missing Near Orlando, Person of Interest Found Dead: Sheriff

Police are still searching for a missing 19-year-old Florida woman who was last seen Friday at an apartment complex near an Orlando college, while authorities said the man who's a person of interest in her disappearance has been found dead from an apparent suicide.

Miya Marcano was last seen around 5 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the Arden Villas complex located near the University of Central Florida, Orange County Sheriff's Office officials said.

Marcano's father, Marlon, told WESH his daughter lived at the complex and worked in the leasing office but he did not hear from Marcano after she got off work.

Marcano was scheduled to take a flight to Fort Lauderdale later in the evening, but never boarded the plane. Her family traveled to Orlando this past weekend to speak with police and Orange County Sheriff's Office deputies.

At a news conference Monday, Orange County Sheriff John Mina said 27-year-old Armando Manuel Caballero, who was a person of interest in her disappearance, was found dead earlier in the day.

Caballero, a maintenance worker at the apartment complex where Marcano lived and worked, is believed to have killed himself at an apartment in nearby Seminole County, Mina said.

Caballero, who had worked at the complex since June, had demonstrated a romantic interest in Marcano but had been "repeatedly rebuffed," Mina said.

Mina said an arrest warrant had been issued for Caballero for burglary after someone used a maintenance key fob to access Marcano's apartment on Friday.

"Miya is still missing, her disappearance is suspicious, and our detectives and the family members obviously suspect foul play," Mina said. "We are still doing everything possible we can to find her."

Marcano graduated from Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines last year, and some of her family still lives in South Florida. She is five feet tall and weighs 130 pounds with brown hair and green eyes.

Blood, signs of struggle found inside Miya Marcano’s apartment, family says

The family of missing 19-year-old Miya Marcano revealed new details Tuesday concerning signs of a struggle inside the woman’s apartment found after her disappearance.

One of Marcano’s cousins said the family is searching again in Orlando and described how the family found the bedroom. They said there was jewelry on the ground, the bed was not made, and the room was in “disarray,” and that it looked like there had been a struggle.

The cousin said Marcano’s family had always been clean and that the room was “meticulous.” Family members added that blood had been found in the area.

Mina said a maintenance-issued master key fob, which Caballero was known to have, was used to enter Marcano’s apartment about 30 minutes before she was set to finish her shift at 4:30 p.m.

Marcano’s father said his daughter was scheduled to catch a flight to her family’s home later that night, but she never boarded the plane

Miya Marcano: Person of interest in case was ‘infatuated’ with vanished teenager, family say

A maintenance man named as a person of interest in the disappearance of Florida teenager Miya Marcano was “infatuated” with her and “constantly texting”, her family have said.

Armando Caballero, 27, worked with Ms Marcano at a student housing complex in Orlando, Florida and was suspected by police of entering her apartment using a master key just before she vanished last Friday.

On Monday, however, officers found Mr Caballero dead in an apparent suicide in his own apartment complex about 30 miles outside Orlando’s city centre.

Relatives of Ms Marcano, 19, said on Tuesday that Mr Caballero had repeatedly pestered her with romantic overtures, and that a necklace she always wore was found broken inside her bedroom.

“He was infatuated with her, he was in love with her,” Ms Marcano’s cousin Caili Sue told reporters. “I don’t know the very specifics, but he was constantly texting her.”

Family members also told WPLG Channel 10 that a pink blanket seen in video footage being held by Mr Caballero belonged to Ms Marcano.

Search for missing woman Miya Marcano enters Day 5

Members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office met Wednesday as the search for Miya Marcano, a 19-year-old who’s been missing since last week, entered its fifth day.

Sheriff’s officials would not share the specific location or time of Wednesday’s search.

First I am reading of this one. How sad. And she clearly had an apartment that should have been safe and registered entries to even ensure that.

They haven't found her?

Family of Miya Marcano calls on FBI to help find missing Florida college student

The desperate family of missing 19-year-old Florida college student Miya Marcano is calling on the FBI to get involved in the search for her, saying they suspect she was kidnapped from her apartment a week ago.

"We're just ready to bring her home, but we need everyone's help. We need every resource at this point," Marcano's aunt, Semone Westmaas, told ABC affiliate station WFTV in Orlando, adding that she and her family are asking the FBI to get involved in the search for her niece.

Family: Person of interest's cell phone pinged near New Smyrna after Miya Marcano went missing

As the search for 19-year-old Miya Marcano enters its sixth day, family members have revealed more of what is believed to have happened to her.

Residents received a letter from Arden Villas telling them that law enforcement would be entering their storage units and garages Thursday as they continue their investigation.

Orange County Sheriff's Office investigators were seen Wednesday making their way through the apartment complex.

Arden Villas is the complex where Miya Marcano works and lives. It's also where Armando Caballero, 27, the person of interest in this case, worked as a maintenance man before he was found dead Monday from an apparent suicide.

Family members told WESH 2 Thursday that Caballero's cell phone pinged at some point after her disappearance near New Smyrna, adding a new area for law enforcement to search.

The sheriff's office says hundreds of personnel have been working around the clock looking for Miya Marcano in Orange, Volusia and Seminole counties.

Suspect in Miya Marcano case previously accused of throwing weight through woman’s window

In March, the primary suspect in Miya Marcano’s disappearance was accused of throwing something through a woman’s window after she turned him down for a date.

It happened in the same complex near Longwood where Armando Caballero was found dead on Monday.

The 24-year-old said she was in her room late one night when someone threw a weight through her window.

The woman said she didn’t see the suspect, but told deputies it was likely the maintenance man who she’d declined to go on a date with.

She said he wrote her a note asking her out, and she agreed to go a few days later. But when he asked to switch it up to that same night, she said no.

It was that same night that she was in her bottom-floor apartment with her bedroom light on, looking at her phone when she said someone threw a black weight through her window.

No charges were ever filed in the case.

If there was a pretty good likelihood he did it, then that complex should have fired his arse! Sounds like a habit of asking women on dates there and then getting angry when rejected.

I think it's 2 different places.
He worked at the place Miya lived recently (since June), but it sounds like he worked where HE lived prior to this (in March).
He may have been fired. I didn't include it in the copy but it says "It’s unclear if Caballero continued to work at the Longwood complex after that."

I see. I missed that or perhaps it was earlier on. Admittedly I am behind on cases so even in seeing this one, I have not read everything which I generally try to do (links, articles, etc.)

It's still too bad if they experienced this kind of problem and then he walked into a similar job and did the same.

Search for Miya Marcano of Orlando resumes Friday morning in New Smyrna Beach

Orange County Sheriff's Office deputies Friday morning continued their search in New Smyrna Beach in connection to the disappearance of Miya Marcano.

"I know that Miya's family and her loved ones are going through unimaginable anguish as they try and find out what happened to Miya," Orange County Sheriff John Mina said during a press conference Thursday afternoon.

Deputies received tips that have led to search areas in Orange, Seminole and, as of Thursday, Volusia counties, Mina said.

Orange County deputies resumed their search Friday morning in New Smyrna Beach in a heavily wooded area just south of East 3rd and South Peninsula avenues.

$15,000 reward offered for any information to help find Miya Marcano

A $15,000 reward is being offered to anyone who has information about the location of missing 19-year-old Miya Marcano, according to a tweet sent out by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

As loved ones and friends continue to stay positive about finding Marcano, they said each day it’s getting harder.

“When you’re the family member with the person that’s missing, everything is too long. Twenty-four hours is too long, 48 hours is too long, and for sure, seven days is too long,” Carol Hylton said.

Orange Co. Sheriff pleads with public to keep 'eyes open' this weekend for Miya Marcano

The command post and Orange County deputies left the search area in New Smyrna Beach off Third Avenue by sunset Friday after spending long hours looking for Miya Marcano.

The Sheriff's Office set up a command post near the South Causeway on Thursday, where the search resumed before 8 a.m. Friday.

Deputies were seen on foot, with drones and on airboats moving through swamps in New Smyrna Friday.

Marcano's family said law enforcement told them the cell phone of suspect Armando Caballero at some point pinged in the area.

The family told WESH 2 Facebook shows Marcano's last check-in was in Orlando on Sept. 28 which makes four days after she vanished. Family members said they don't have access to her Facebook account. Orange County Sheriff's Office told WESH 2 in a statement that investigators are aware of the check-in but they don't believe it carries evidence. They didn't get back to WESH 2 when asked to elaborate.

Sheriff John Mina is asking people to keep their eyes and ears open when they head outdoors or to the beach this weekend.

"We know that many people will be out and about in outdoor areas, in waterways," Mina said. "We're asking them to keep their eyes open and call us if they see anything."

Missing woman Miya Marcano’s body believed to have been found near Tymber Skan apartments, sheriff says

The body of Miya Marcano was apparently found near the dilapidated Tymber Skan apartments on Saturday morning, Orange County Sheriff John Mina said at a press conference.

“This is not the update I wanted to give everyone,” Mina said. “Our hearts our broken. Everyone wanted this outcome to be different.”

The body was found around 10:45 a.m. in a wooded area near the apartment complex. Mina said the cell phone of the prime suspect, 27-year-old Armando Caballero, pinged in the area and sheriff’s office search parties started investigating the area first thing Saturday morning. An autopsy will determine a cause of death and a medical examiner will positively identify Marcano, though Mina said deputies are certain it is her as her purse with her ID was found.

So relieved and happy she was found and there will be answers but so sad and heartbroken at the outcome and for her family.

I think this is right. Mapping from Arden Villas to Tymber Skan.
He took her a distance then. I wonder if he killed her at the apartment and managed to move her body alone(?) or took her there and then it happened. There was evidence of a scene at her apartment though wasn't there?

There will be no trial here since he killed himself but I imagine there will still be an investigation as to what occurred, cause of death, etc.
