Police issue Amber Alert for 9-year-old abducted from Lake George​

New York State Police issued an Amber Alert at 1:29 a.m. Sunday, saying a 9-year-old girl was abducted by an unknown suspect from Lake George four hours earlier Saturday night.

Police sent an alert to people’s phones saying Melina Galanis Frattolin was last seen southbound in a white van on I-87 near exit 22 at 9:40 p.m. Saturday.

The initial alert said she was last seen at 7:40 p.m., but it was changed to 9:40 p.m. shortly afterward.

She is 5 feet tall, 100 pounds, of Indian descent, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue and white striped shirt, shorts, and white Adidas sneakers. State Police released a second, more recent photo, of the girl late Sunday morning.

The State Police’s post on the alert on Facebook notes that any suspect in the case is unknown. All information seen here was recent as of 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

“The child was taken under circumstances that lead police to believe that they are in imminent danger of serious bodily harm and/or death,” the alert reads.

The alert did not give any details about what the child was doing at the time of the alleged abduction, where exactly she was, and who she was with.

LAKE GEORGE, NY (WNYT) – Police in Warren County issued an AMBER Alert early Sunday for a young girl that was missing. Sources have confirmed to NewsChannel 13’s Mark Mullholland that the girl has been found dead.
Police have not yet released any information about where the child was found dead.
9-year-old Melina Frattolin was last seen in a white van, southbound on The Northway near exit 22 around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office said.
The child was wearing shorts, a black and white striped shirt and white Adidas sneakers, investigators said. She was five foot tall and weighs approximately 100 pounds, according to the alert.
Police said the child was taken under circumstances that lead police to believe the child was in imminent danger of serious harm and/or death.
Police have not released any information about a possible suspect.
The Amber Alert was triggered around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, nearly 4 hours after police said the child went missing.
In the initial AMBER Alert, police said the girl went missing around 7:40 p.m., but that was later changed to 9:40 p.m.
(Police previously said the child was wearing a blue and white striped shirt. They have updated that information to say she was wearing a black and white shirt.)

State Police Investigate Death of Missing Child​


On July 19, 2025, at approximately 9:58 p.m., Warren County 911 received a call from a man reporting his 9-year-old daughter missing, with a possible abduction, in the area of Exit 22 of I-87 in Lake George, New York. The child was identified as Melina Frattolin, age 9, and the caller as her father, Luciano Frattolin, age 45, both residents of Canada.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office initially led the investigation. As the case progressed, law enforcement identified inconsistencies in the father’s account of events and the timeline he provided.
With the assistance of the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, Ticonderoga Police Department, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Forest Rangers, and New York State Police K9 and Aviation units, Melina was located deceased in Ticonderoga, New York.
Due to jurisdictional considerations, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office has turned the investigation over to the New York State Police. At this time, there is no indication that an abduction occurred, and there is no threat to the public.
The investigation is ongoing. A media event is anticipated on July 21, 2025.

Luciano Frattolin killed his 9-year-old daughter and left her body in the shallow end of a remote pond in upstate New York hours before he was due to return the girl to the custody of her mother, from whom he is estranged, New York State Police said Monday.

Frattolin, 45, is charged with murder and concealment of a corpse and is due to make his initial appearance in Ticonderoga Town Court later Monday.


The father and daughter were on vacation in Connecticut and New York and were driving home from New York City to Montreal along Interstate 87 when Luciano Frattolin called police just before 10 p.m. Saturday to report the girl's abduction. He told police he stopped near Lake George to use the bathroom and when he returned his daughter was gone and a suspicious white van was pulling away.

"He fabricated the initial report of the abduction," McConnell said during the news conference.

Just hours earlier, about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Melina was on the phone with her mother, who is estranged from her father. The girl told her mother she was on her way home to Montreal.

"The child appeared to be in good health and did not indicate she was under any duress," McConnell said. "The investigation has determined sometime after Melina's phone call with her mother, and before Mr. Frattolin's 911 call, he allegedly murdered Melina and left her body in a remote area where she was later discovered by law enforcement."

Accused killer dad Luciano Frattolin may have been struggling to cover child support for his daughter, owing hundreds of thousands of dollars to creditors despite depicting a high-flying lifestyle on social media.

The flailing 45-year-old Canadian coffee entrepreneur — charged Monday with the murder of his 9-year-old daughter Melina during a trip to upstate New York — had rented a property in the hip Montreal enclave of Mile End since 2020, which he sublet as an Airbnb, according to a report in La Presse.

He hired two property managers to run the venture, including having them make the rent payments he owed — enabling him to pay his daughter’s child support with what he netted afterward, he said in court documents obtained by the outlet.

But his lease was terminated by the landlord in August 2024 when he fell $26,000 behind in rent. He was also being denied access to the property, where he said he stored his daughter’s winter clothing and toys.

He is currently suing the managers for more than $115,000, claiming they exploited the property without his knowledge and never made the rent payments as promised, according to Le Devoir.

In turn, the managers alleged Frattolin had planned to empty his bank account and flee the country, which he denied.

An employee of Dépanneur Café, a coffee shop Frattolin once owned and on which he still owes Bank of Nova Scotia about $83,000, said the accused killer had been splitting his time between Italy and Canada for the past 18 months.

The bank said Frattolin also owed them $97,000 in unpaid credit-card debts from Café Gambella, another coffee shop bearing the same name as his online java business, Gambella Coffee.

At his arraignment in Ticonderoga Town Court on Monday afternoon, Frattolin said he couldn’t afford a lawyer and requested a public defender.

But his Instagram page paints a very different picture of his financial situation, rife with photos and posts featuring exotic travel and expensive sports cars and replete with statements such as, “I am truly addicted to Porsche.”

A 9-year-old girl whose body was found in Ticonderoga on Sunday died of asphyxia due to drowning, according to the results of an autopsy released by police on Tuesday.

New York State Police said the death of Melina Frattolin, of Montreal, is being considered a homicide case.

Frattolin had been on vacation in the United States with her father, Luciano Frattolin, 45, of Montreal, Quebec, when she was reported missing. Police later charged Luciano Frattolin with second-degree murder and concealment of a corpse after his daughter's body was found in a pond in Ticonderoga during a multi-agency grid search of the area on Sunday.

Frattolin homicide case moves to grand jury​

The case against Luciano Frattolin, the Canadian man accused of killing his 9-year-old daughter Melina in Ticonderoga, is being moved to grand jury. This means Frattolin will not be in Ticonderoga Town Court for his originally scheduled appearance at 1 p.m. on Friday.

“You have reached Ticonderoga Town Court. The felony hearing for Friday at one o’clock is canceled. The case is being held for grand jury action and the court has no further information,” read a recorded message when NEWS10 called the court on Thursday.
 

Father accused of killing 9-year-old daughter in Upstate New York denied bail​

Luciano Frattolin, the father accused of drowning his nine-year-old daughter and concealing her body, appeared in a U.S. courtroom on Wednesday to formally face charges.

Judge Tatiana Coffinger said Wednesday Frattolin will not receive bail. She said continued detention is necessary to ensure he will show up at court to answer the charges.

The appearance was a formal arraignment on the charges of second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse.

He pleaded not guilty.

Police in N.Y. had already accused Frattolin of the crimes, but the appearance on Wednesday marked the formal laying of charges that have now been approved by a grand jury in the state.


A state public defender is representing Frattolin. The case will next return to court on August 19.
