Madeleine Beth McCann (born 12 May 2003) disappeared on the evening of 3 May 2007 from her bed in a holiday apartment at a resort in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve region of Portugal. Her whereabouts remain unknown.[3] The Daily Telegraph described the disappearance as "the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history".[4]

Madeleine was on holiday from the UK with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann; her two-year-old twin siblings; and a group of family friends and their children. She and the twins had been left asleep at 20:30 in the ground-floor apartment, while the McCanns and friends dined in a restaurant 55 metres (180 ft) away.[5] The parents checked on the children throughout the evening, until Madeleine's mother discovered she was missing at 22:00.

The McCann's have primarily Irish and Scottish roots. Why waste more resources on a direct comparison if her ancestry isn't even similar and she can be ruled out in other ways? If the authorities had any reason to believe she was Maddie, they could run the test without the consent of the McCann's, as they have their DNA on file. And even if they didn't, a court order would solve that.
This woman has some serious mental health issues.

A previous DNA test debunked Wandelt’s claims, showing that she has Polish, Lithuanian, and Romanian ancestry — entirely different from the McCanns’ lineage.

Wandelt had previously contacted a Polish charity to say she was missing German schoolgirl Inga Gehricke, 5, who disappeared from Stendal in Germany in 2015.

Julia then contacted the charity again to say she was Acacia Bishop, who went missing as a 19-month-old in 2003 in Utah.

According to the Gazeta News, police said they ruled out Julia Faustyna’s claims after her family made a statement earlier this week, refuting what she said. The family is said to have also handed over documentation to the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław, including the woman’s birth certificate.

Translated from Polish:
On Wednesday afternoon, the young woman's family issued a statement via the Facebook page "Zaginieni temu laty" (Missing Years Ago). They emphasized that Julia is their "daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and stepdaughter." They also emphasized that they have photos and memories.

The 21-year-old's family claims she is "lying and manipulating" and is not regularly taking medication prescribed by psychiatrists. They also reported that they have submitted the necessary documents to the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.

As the officer noted, the family presented documentation, including Julia's birth certificate.

During questioning, Mr McCann told the court that there were three reasons why he and his wife did not go ahead with a DNA test to prove one way or the other whether Wandelt was Madeleine. He said: “It’s very clear. First of all, we did not believe she was Madeleine.

"Secondly, we had been reassured by the Metropolitan Police that following inquiries undertaken in Poland… she was definitely not Madeleine. Thirdly, it is not our responsibility to do a DNA test. That’s a matter for the investigator forces.”

I figured it was likely a birth certificate. Pretty solid evidence. The fact her family also backs up that she is NOT any of these missing children and can't be is pretty strong. I feel sorry for them, even though an "adult" she is clearly a handful to deal with I'm sure.

Seeking attention in my opinion, the 60 year old woman as well. Even if a DNA test was negative it would give them more time in the limelight which I think unnecessary.

WHAT IS the 60 year old involved for? Did she meet her online and attach herself? I'm not sure she isn't worse...

Madeleine McCann's sister has told a court that a woman accused of stalking her family sent her "creepy" messages in an effort to prove she was her missing sibling.
Giving evidence at Leicester Crown Court, Amelie McCann there was a “sound of desperation” in the messages she received from Julia Wandelt.
Wandelt, 24, from southwest Poland and Karen Spragg, 61, from Cardiff, both deny a charge of stalking causing serious alarm or distress between June 2022 and February 2025.
The court heard that in the first message to Miss McCann in January 2024, Wandelt said she had “so many flashbacks”, adding: “I know so many things. I don’t know if this is the real account for Amelie McCann but I can tell you my memories.”
Prosecutor Nadia Silver said the messages from Wandelt, 24, included requests for a DNA test and alleged memories from their childhood such as playing Ring-A-Ring-A-Roses with other children.
Questioned about how she felt about Wandelt’s messages about Madeleine’s childhood, Miss McCann said: “It is quite disturbing that she’s coming up with these supposed memories even though she’s not Madeleine.
“It was quite distressing to see the messages. As you can see, it’s a long message and there’s a sound of desperation in her message which puts quite a lot of stress on me.
“I felt uncomfortable about it because I don’t want to receive messages like that. It is quite creepy she is giving those details and trying to play with my emotions."
Miss McCann told the court she did not want Wandelt to get a DNA test because she “always knew that she wasn’t Madeleine”.
Questioned on whether she replied to any of the messages sent to her by Wandelt, Miss McCann told the jury: “No, I didn’t think it was appropriate to get involved and I don’t usually reply to people I don’t know, to protect myself really.”
Prosecutor Nadia Silver continued: “At any point, did you want to do a DNA test with Julia Wandelt?”
Miss McCann replied: “No.”

Alleged stalker signed letter addressed to McCanns as Madeleine, court hears

Asked why she did not want to do a DNA test, Madeleine’s sister continued: “Because I always knew that she wasn’t Madeleine so I didn’t need to do one and the, not guidance, but the people around me didn’t think it was appropriate either for her to get a DNA test.”
However, Miss McCann said she felt “guilty” for not listening to Wandelt’s messages.
She continued: “I did not find it persuasive. But it does make you feel quite guilty because she’s desperate to connect and reach out to me.
“It makes me feel guilty for not listening to her request but at the same time, I know deep down it was not Madeleine so I did not feel persuaded by her.”
The court heard that in one message Wandelt said she was writing “with hope” that Miss McCann could make Kate and Gerry McCann “believe there’s still hope”, adding: “I think they gave up.”
Miss McCann added: “It’s clear that she thinks she’s Madeleine and she can’t understand why no one is helping her to kind of get proof or whatever and she thinks that I would have told my parents to listen to her.”
She said one message from Wandelt said she would “do whatever to prove my identity”.
Asked how the message made her feel, Miss McCann said: “It made me feel… not scared, but it shows you the lengths she would go to to try and get heard, which is a bit scary because you don’t know what she would do next.”
Miss McCann said she blocked Wandelt from viewing her profile on social media platform TikTok because it made her feel uncomfortable.
She said: “I think at the time I must have blocked her on quite a few platforms. On TikTok you can see when someone is viewing your profile and it was such a regular occurrence, I felt uncomfortable about that so I definitely blocked her on that.
“On Facebook, her messages were sat in a message requests box, I think that’s why I didn’t block her on that. But I think I did after that.”
Miss McCann said Wandelt sent a letter addressed to her at her family home when she was back from university which told her she was her “last hope”.
"It was a lot of writing and quite similar, and that I was her last hope and she really needed me to help her, and again trying to persuade me that she was Madeleine.”
Miss McCann also said Wandelt sent the letters with photographs of her and images of the alleged stalker.
Commenting on the photos of Wandelt, Miss McCann said: “I didn’t like it, it made me feel very uncomfortable... she clearly altered or edited the pictures to make it look more like her, which is quite disturbing.”
Miss McCann also told the court that the alleged stalking “took a toll” on her mother’s wellbeing.
She said: “I think my mum found it the hardest and was harassed, I guess, by Julia more than the rest of us.
“It definitely took a toll on her and her wellbeing because all the time her phone would be going off and it would be Julia.
“It’s upsetting when someone’s begging you to believe them and playing with your emotions to the point you are questioning yourself and doubting yourself.
“My mum really struggled with that – her saying ‘I’m your daughter’.”
Miss McCann told the jury her mother was especially “stressed and on edge” after Wandelt visited the family home in Leicestershire on 7 December last year.
She said she was at university when the visit was made, but that it was an “invasion” of their privacy.
“She was very stressed and on edge about that because its not nice to have an unexpected and unwanted visitor at your house and especially the nature of what she was saying and doing and begging.
"I remember something about her being sat out on the grass and she wouldn’t leave and that’s very invasive of your privacy.”
Miss McCann discussed the impact the alleged visit had on her and sibling Sean when they returned home from university for the Christmas holidays.
She said: “My parents told us there was a lot more security in place and if she ever came, there was an alarm we could press and alert the police.
“I think that just isn’t normal as a normal teenager, no one else has that sort of thing in place. The police could turn up, you know. It’s impinging on your life.
“The thought of her potentially turning up was quite scary for me.”
Sean McCann’s evidence
Amelie's twin brother Sean said in a statement that he finds Wandelt’s claim to be his missing sister “disrespectful”.
The court heard Wandelt sent her first message to Sean in November last year on Instagram saying she was Madeleine and asking why no one believes her, but he said the messages were “not threatening in any way”.
He wrote in the statement, which was read to the court by prosecutor Nadia Silver: “At the time I was not too impacted by them (the messages) especially as I blocked Julia straight away.
“Knowing that Julia has made those efforts to mum and Amelie with the messaging…this of course makes me upset to think they have been upset, caused by Julia.”
His statement added that he changed his username on his social media profiles to be “less findable” to Wandelt and “her supporters”.
Addressing her claim to be Madeleine, he said: “I find it disrespectful that she’s making this claim and getting a lot of attention and support for it. The fact Julia has no regard for how we feel about her claims is hurtful.”

Why is it when someone claims to be a long lost child, it seems like they always make it public, try to contact the parents directly, etc. Smh.

The McCanns and Polish LE seem satisfied she is NOT Madeline. A ways up in a link it said Polish LE knew her circumstances and knew it was not her or some such. I'm thinking maybe a certified birth certificate or some such.

People like this should have serious repercussions imo and they definitely aren't doing it for the right reasons.

The McCanns are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they are out there in support of finding her some pick them apart every little thing and if they withdraw they are accussed of not caring or doing anything to help.

I'm not a fan of them but neither do I detest them, kind of in the middle.

I think they'd do a lot of things different in hindsight and are protective of the remaining children. It said not until the women or one of them contacted or tried to contact Amelie [sp?] did Kate decide enough is enough. I'm sure they feel if they make a big to do even if being constantly harassed, it will just give some in the public more fodder and bring criticism.

The other children have grown up under the cloud of this and attention on it while the parents probably try to give them a normal life. I have NO understanding of someone coming to one's home like that nor sympathy for the women. It would scare me too and even more so with the circumstances and the endless calls are not a light thing either.

I totally agree. There should be stiff penalties for impersonating a missing person.
