A missing eight-year-old is presumed dead after six weeks of searching that have revealed no trace of the youngster or his mum.

Kyran Durnin and his mother Dayla went missing overnight on August 28 from the family's home in County Louth, Ireland, after the 24-year-old left a note saying she "needed to get away for a few days". Police launched search efforts two days later, and despite "extensive enquiries" have not found any clues to their whereabouts well over a month later.

Garda have now issued an update saying Kyran is now missing presumed dead, having been unable to identify evidence suggesting he is currently alive. An Garda Siochana said in a statement today: “Despite extensive inquiries carried out by gardai to date, An Garda Siochana have been unable to either locate Kyran, identify any information on his current whereabouts or any evidence that he is currently alive.

“Following inquiries to date, investigating Gardai now believe that Kyran is missing presumed dead. A murder investigation has been commenced.”

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, with the probe being led by a senior investigation officer based out of an incident room established at Drogheda Garda Station. Tusla, Ireland’s Child and Family Agency, is working closely with and fully co-operating with the Garda investigation.

When the missing person report was filed at the end of August it included a photo of Kyran when he was around six years old. And now the police believe Kyran, from Drogheda, in Co Louth, may have have been dead for more than two years, reports RTE.

It is also expected that Tusla, Ireland’s child and family agency, may also help in putting together what has happened to Kyran with police reportedly believing now that he may have died more than two years ago. As of now though police do not know how, if Kyran did die, or where his body in that case is located.

MEDIA: Missing 8 yr old Irish boy KYRAN DURNIN may have died TWO YEARS before anyone knew he was missing! How can that happen?

"Father of a decoy child" LOL. Can he be charged with that? Misleading police, timewasting, whatever. Did the child look like Kyran ? How do they know it wasn't Kyran?

Gardaí issue new photos of missing Louth child Kyran Durnin amid renewed appeal for information

Gardaí in Louth investigating the disappearance of Kyran Durnin have issued a renewed appeal to the public for information.

Gardaí have said that they have received "extensive support" from the public. As part of the ongoing enquiries, new images have been provided by gardaí of Kyran which were taken in June 2022.

Gardaí said that they are aware of the "extensive public commentary on this investigation including speculation, rumours and theories on what may have happened to Kyran."

An Garda Síochána has asked the public, notwithstanding all the information that is in the public domain, to not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have.

They added that any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team and "will be treated in the strictest confidence."

Kyran Durnin investigation: Gardai believe woman quizzed booked ticket to flee Ireland but storm foiled plan

She gave a partial explanation of what she believed happened to him during a Garda interview but laid the blame for his disappearance and murder on her friend Anthony Maguire who was also questioned and later took his own life earlier this week.
The Garda source said; "She blamed Anthony for everything that happened. We accept he was involved but we do not believe that he killed Kyran.

‘He should be getting ready for Christmas’ – vigil held in Dundalk for missing schoolboy Kyran Durnin

A group of locals in Dundalk, Co Louth, braved the cold on Sunday night for a vigil in the town for missing boy Kyran Durnin.
The group gathered around the Christmas tree on Earl Street in the centre of the town, holding candles in tribute to the youngster, who is missing and presumed dead.

It was the third gathering held in Dundalk for Kyran, who would now be aged eight, since a murder investigation was launched in October.

Attendees were encouraged to bring gifts along to the vigil, which will be donated to children in need for Christmas.

The organiser, Brittany McEnteggart, told the Irish Independent she hoped to continue holding vigils until Kyran’s case is solved.

“I had said at the start that if Kyran wasn’t found by Christmas, that we would hold a vigil at this time of year,” she said.

“We should know where he is at this stage, and we don’t. I’ve kept my promise, I’m going to keep doing these vigils. At the end of the day, if we stop doing them, it’s just somebody else letting him down.”

Ms McEnteggart said there has been great support from the community and it is important to continue to acknowledge Kyran is missing, particularly at Christmas.

“This is keeping Kyran’s name where it needs to be, at the forefront, especially at this time of year. It’s sad to think a child should be getting ready for Christmas, but he’s not. Nobody knows where Kyran is and it’s just very, very sad.”

Blow to Kyran Durnin murder probe amid suspect's 'suicide' note

Gardaí are not treating his death as suspicious and believe he had taken his own life, but stressed that an autopsy will determine the cause of death.

He is reported to have left a note prior to his death - but garda sources told the Irish Independent that 'it made nothing clear in relation to Kyran's suspected murder'.

'There was nothing in that note that gave any indication of where the boy is', the sources concluded.
It's understood Mr Maguire was suspected of being part of an elaborate cover-up to shield the schoolboy's disappearance and suspected death from the authorities.

Good Lord why did I even take a look at this case.

Looked at tons of posts, not all but enough, a few pages worth.

Trying to dial down the points or what I would say.

First of all, I like the statement that any agency etc. or person will be held accountable. It sure is not the case here with CPS/DCF whatever one wants to call it re each state. It NEVER seems to happen.

Second of all, we have had so many here now that have been missing long before reported, it's almost not unusual but sounds like this is the case with this poor boy.

I read a ton of posts and have more but not going to go there, I shouldn't have even taken a look. I thought perhaps I had been in here. Used to be I was into every single one, so hard to know.

The terms are all so different. So unaliving is put another way. Meaning S uicide.

I didn't read all seven pages, I read two or three. And then this one.

So not fully on top of. Mom AND grandma seem to be involved or lying, am I wrong? Is that what most think?

This is my understanding. Mom has not said anything AFAIK. Gran said she last saw him in August before Mom went to England. But noone believes that was possible. School and the child agency don't seem to know when they last saw him. If i have it wrong someone can correct me. Two properties have been dug up but nothing found so far.

Yeah it would seem gran is a liar... We probably aren't going to hear from the child agency if it is like here... Mom is now around but not child right?

I honestly regret even taking a look at this one. I was diligent of not adding new ones but thought I might have already been in this one.

Kyran Durnin case: Online activity and purchases relating to missing child appear to expire in 2022

A number of people close to the missing schoolboy Kyran Durnin, who gardaí believe was murdered, stopped sharing photographs of him, and referring to him publicly, around the same period in the second half of 2022, investigators believe.

While two suspects were arrested last month and several searches have been carried out at properties in Co Louth, Kyran’s remains have not be found. The last independent confirmed sighting of him was in June 2022, when he was six years old and attending national school in Dundalk, Co Louth.

Gardaí believe he died in the weeks or months after the last confirmed sighting and that his body was concealed to cover up his death. However, the detail of where, how or when he died has not been determined.

Detectives have been trawling online and telephone-based activity of a number of persons of interest in the case. While the child features in messages and posts that were shared, some of them publicly, for years, that content about him then appears to cease in the summer of 2022.

Gardaí have also examined other activity, including fast food purchases, which have added to their suspicions Kyran died in the summer of 2022. There is also no evidence of gifts on milestone celebrations, including at Christmas, having been purchased for him.

There was a very high volume, almost daily, pattern of food deliveries to addresses of properties of interest in the case. That pattern of food orders and deliveries was well established by the period to June 2022, when the evidence proving Kyran was alive appears to expire.

After that time, gardaí believe, the pattern of meals being ordered changed in a manner that suggests the group being fed had reduced by one person.

Garda sources said the apparent changes in the ordering of food might be explained if one child was being cared for elsewhere or a family unit became dispersed. But they believe the absence of photographs of Kyran, and references to him, in messages and posts is more specific and more revealing.

The same sources stressed the strands of information are not proof of a crime, and still do not answer the key questions in the case around how Kyran died and where his remains are.

Ha! I had not thought about them looking into food buying patterns!

It's a pity they cannot track the phone activity and their movements to see exactly when and where he disappeared. Did they go away somewhere for a vacation or a visit to relatives and disappear then? Hopefully, now they are getting into the details, and will be able to come up with a last sighting of Kyran.

New search for missing six-year-old Kyran Durnin

A house in Drogheda, County Louth, is being searched as part of the investigation into the murder of a six-year-old boy who disappeared more than two years ago.

On Wednesday, a white cordon was erected around a house on Hand Street in Drogheda.

Officers from the Garda Technical Bureau began a forensic examination of the property, including the rear garden.

A mini-digger is being used to excavate land.

Confirming the latest search at a "domestic residence" in Drogheda, gardaí said they were "aware of ongoing extensive public commentary" on their investigation.

They warned that most of the speculation, rumours and theories on what may have happened to Kyran was "inaccurate and misinformed".

"Such ill-informed public commentary is not only disruptive to the Garda investigations but also adds to the trauma experienced by victims families," they added.

A Garda van and car are parked close to the house which is along a narrow residential street.

The area immediately around the house is cordoned off.

Gardaí are conducting their initial searches here out of public view.

It's an old-style residential area with TV aerials on most of the rooftops and electrical and telephone wires criss-crossing the street.

While gardaí conduct their searches inside the house, local people are going about their normal daily business and mostly keeping their thoughts about this latest development to themselves.

Dad of missing Kyran Durnin shouts 'he's my son, youse don't understand' at search

The dad of missing schoolboy Kyran Durnin turned up at the scene where a house and garden is being searched in Drogheda, visibly distressed, and shouted: “He’s my son. Youse don’t understand."

Kyran’s dad, who is not a suspect in the murder investigation of the boy who was a six-year-old when he went missing, walked the street to the property being searched on Thursday afternoon, accompanied by friends. They paused outside the house for several minutes before Kyran's dad became distressed and upset and shouted: "He’s my son. Youse don’t understand.”

The search of the two storey semi-detached house and its back garden is the home of a woman who is known to the missing six-year-old boy. It’s also the property where gardai were informed he was last seen in August 2023 - an account gardai have since dismissed. It’s the fourth of such searches in the murder investigation of Kyran - who has not been since June 2022. Detectives are working on the assumption that he may have died up to two and a half years ago.

The search finished at 5pm for the night and will resume again for a third day on Friday. Sources yesterday told us there was concern from the public over photos of renovation works completed to the back garden posted to social media in June 2022 but sources have stressed gardai have stated the last known sightings of Kyran - who would have been eight years old now - was after these works.

Kyran Durnin murder probe: Investigators ‘meticulously’ review large volume of info they've received

Investigators probing the disappearance and suspected murder of schoolboy Kyran Durnin continue to ‘meticulously’ review the large volume of information they have - which sources say is “taking time” as the investigation continues.

Little Kyran - who was six years of age when he was last seen alive in June 2022 - was reported missing in August 2023 along with his mother Dayla - the day after Tusla flagged its concerns for the welfare of the boy after being unable to see him despite several efforts.

Now, investigators continue to review “all information” they have received from members of the public, from mobile phones and electronic devices seized during the searches and information gleaned from social media accounts in a bid to establish when Kyran was last alive.

It’s understood gardai have received “huge volumes” of information which they are meticulously going through.

“Investigators continue to review all of the information they have and that’s taking time as there are huge volumes of information and details to go through,” a source told this paper.

Despite four searches which took place late last year and earlier this year, sources say “there are no immediate plans for further searches or arrests at the moment.”

“Nothing has been determined as yet for further searches,” sources said, adding the investigation continues and will continue for as long as it takes to locate Kyran or find out what happened to him.

Skimmed through this one too to refresh/recall. Just an aside, personal tragedy can't help but make me think of Lori Daybell recently where everything is just a FAMILY tragedy.

I hope justice is coming here and they seriously do have volumes of info to search through and that that is the only issue.
