First Sgt. Jonathan Perok of the Prince William County Police Department told NBC News investigators began scouring the area when "additional information" was collected.

"We have since worked this case nonstop through the weekend and currently," he said. "We've conducted numerous searches and have followed up on multiple leads that have not yielded his location. What we need right now is information and cooperation which we have not fully been getting from those connected to Jose."

'This is like a nightmare' | Family and friends of missing Woodbridge man hold candlelight vigil

With no answers about Jose Guerrero's whereabouts, his family and friends have turned to prayer hoping that the young father is found safe and sound.

Community members gathered at a Woodbridge shopping center parking lot on New Year's Eve to hold a candlelight vigil to bring the 20-year-old home. His loved ones wore yellow and white to symbolize the faith and hope they still have to find the man they called 'Chepe.'

"This is like a nightmare that you want to go away," said Guerrero's girlfriend, Sheila Perez to WUSA9.

On Dec. 21 the 20-year-old told his girlfriend he would be back in five minutes, but he never returned home. Two days later, the car he was driving was found about a mile and a half from his home on Bel Air Road near Jeffries Road.

Desperate for answers community members have been conducting their own searches for the past 10 days across Prince William County.

"If you have any information that may help us, please speak up. Don't be afraid to speak up. Please, we really need your help," said Perez who shares a 10-month-old daughter with Guerrero.

Ruby Bermudez says on Saturday they started their search around 9 a.m. and concluded at around 4:30 p.m. "We went to Occoquan River, we had some kayaks and people went into Occoquan River," said Bermudez whose son is a close friend of Guerrero's.

The groups have been focusing their searches in wooded areas and parks. The family says they found what they believed to be a trail of blood at Neabsco Park, and during their search Saturday, they think they found potentially more evidence.

"We went back to Neabsco Park and found the trail of blood and we found more blood. We are not sure if it is from my son but it was a good amount of blood," said Andrea Salgado, Guerrero's mother who has been leading the search efforts.

The family is offering a $5,000 reward for valid information about where he is. If you have information, they're asking you to call (703) 792-6500.

I was afraid this was how he would be found. I'm glad he was found, though. His loved ones can now start to mourn.

A body found in Prince George's County, Maryland on Thursday, Jan. 19 has been identified as that of Guerrero, 20, of Woodbridge, according to 1st Sgt. Jonathan Perok, a Prince William County Police Department spokesman.

'We want justice' | Suspect in Woodbridge man's death appears in court

One of the men accused of stabbing Jose Guerrero to death last year was in court Tuesday.

Olvin Daniel Argueta Ramirez, 19, of Woodbridge, and a 17-year-old boy who lives in Woodbridge, were arrested in connection to Guerrero’s death in January. Police at the time said they were both facing murder charges.

Court documents revealed the two allegedly told police they "intended to rob" Guerrero during a drug transaction in a parking lot in Lost Canyon Court.

Instead, after some sort of argument, they stabbed him over and over until he was unconscious, then took him somewhere else to make sure he was dead, according to court documents. Then, they drove Guerrero's car to Adelphi, Maryland where police say they dumped his body in a wooded area, before bringing the car back to Bel Air Road in Woodbridge.

Tuesday morning, Guerrero's loved ones gathered outside the Prince William Court House. Many of them wore shirts with his picture on it and called for justice.

"This poor young man was killed for $70," said Victoria Paxton, a family friend.

Tuesday afternoon, Argueta Ramirez went before a judge, where he waived his right to a preliminary hearing. His case will now go before a grand jury in May, and a trial will be set shortly after.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — On Sunday, hundreds showed up to Freedom High School in Woodbridge to play soccer. But, this wasn't just any soccer tournament.

The 12 games were played in honor of Jose "Chepe" Guerrero.

The money raised during the tournament will go into a fund, for his daughter. Guerrero would have turned 21 years old on Tuesday.

'Why did this happen? Why?' | One year later, Woodbridge family still seeks justice

This time of year, is anything but festive for the family and friends of Jose Guerrero.

"I don't feel like celebrating instead of mourning and trying to cope with the numbness," said his mother Andrea Salgado.

The young father was brutally murdered last December.

"I don't understand what happened. I question myself every day. Why did this happen? Why?" she said.

Olvin Daniel Argueta Ramirez, 19, of Woodbridge, and a 17-year-old boy who lives in Woodbridge, were arrested in connection to Guerrero’s death, police said. They were both facing murder charges.

"What they did was horrible and I wouldn't wish it to anybody," said Salgado.

In March, Guerrero's family told WUSA9 that the Prince William County Commonwealth Attorney's Office told them that the younger suspect had been released, due to a lack of evidence.

"My heart dropped. They're letting murderer walk the streets. I'm in fear and others should be in fear too," said Andrea Salgado.

That was on March 24. WUSA9 called the jail that afternoon, and they confirmed that the young man who has not been publicly identified because he was a minor at the time, was in the process of being released.

"We won't have peace until all of the people involved are behind bars," said Salgado.

She says she misses her son every single day, and will always remember him for his smile and the love he had for his family and friends.

"His family was always number one. Especially his daughter. He was the happiest when he was with her," she said.

Sad. I had to skim the posts in this one as I wasn't familiar or thought I just did not recall it but I see no hint I was ever in this thread.

In reading the handful of posts it reminds me of the very recent one of Soto and Guerra.

Drug deal sad to say. Kids. By kids I mean 20 somethings and late teens.

I don't victim blame, such is never deserved but i will say that choices and lifrestyles put some in worse spots and at far more risk.

Here we have a baby the male victim had. In Soto a baby was due to be delivered. Dealing and selling or the user and buyer, whichever, it isn't the choice when you have a family. Never is imo. Look, this one likely got little interest and Soto went viral. Not so much lately though. It will come back perhaps with new news probably. MAYBE.

Here, I'd never heard of this one that I know of.

Of course it depends too on whether families get out there and on SM and such as well.

Drugs. Look at how many people they take down and in that I include a baby with no father, family with no son and so on AND the peros and their families.

WHY does anyone go that route? I know. Money. Addiction. To make that choice to begin with though. Cigs and alcohol are one thing, they also are legal and don't involve back street deals, guns and so forth generally but WHY walk into this life?

Can't judge. Don't know. It's just sad and imo more so for the babies in both cases first and foremost. But for all.
