TBI issues Amber Alert for missing Cheatham County boy

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has issued an Amber Alert as multiple agencies look for a missing boy who ran off from his Ashland City home Sunday afternoon.

The Cheatham County Sheriff's Office said Jordan Gorman, 9, was upset and left his home around noon, going into the woods near Valley View Road and Wanda Lane. The TBI originally issued a statewide Endangered Child Alert, but by Monday morning the department issued an Amber Alert amid "new information and growing concern about [his] well-being."

As of Monday morning, the sheriff's office said the search continues, but there's still no sign of the boy.

The Sheriff’s Office reported Jordan Gorman got into a disagreement with his parents at their home on Valley View Road and ran off into the woods. He was last seen wearing a gray short-sleeve T-shirt with red stripes on the arms, blue jeans and tennis shoes.

He does not have a cell phone and a Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter has been launched to assist in the search.

The TBI launched an airplane to search and several K-9 units were called to the scene Sunday. Authorities in Montgomery County also were called to help.

Just reading this. I found this and don't like these parts of it...

"Investigators currently don't know what prompted the boy to leave, which direction he headed in when he left or when exactly the first 911 call was placed, DeVine said from the scene."

-and-

"Near the New Life Community Church, there was a heavy police presence centered around two homes. It is unclear how the two are connected, but multiple unmarked cars, marked cars, pop-up tents and an RV could be seen outside the homes."

From:

So they start out by saying he ran into the woods but then this says they don't know what direction he headed in when he left... They don't know exactly when the first 911 call came in? Etc....

FWIW, IMO, TBI has an amazing team & track record.

Another article with a few more details.

That is really good to know about TBI. In case it was taken that way, I was not questioning them at all but where the changing info is coming from, whether media or family, etc. I think TBI is likely adjusting their focus, and wisely so, as information is determined.

I think my usual way of thinking is known. In general I don't think kids run off, in this case spontaneously, and then some stranger just happens on them ideally when they run off, and abducts them, and in this case in the woods or so it was first said. Even so, I don't mean it couldn't happen or since which direction he went has varied on whether anyone knows, he could have ran to someone who may not be the best person...

Praying for this boy. Nine years old gives me some hope as he would know more than a far younger child but the temperatures and barefoot part are really worrisome.

Many of the same details as above but another article with good info.

TBI: Missing Cheatham 9-year-old wearing no shoes, short sleeve t-shirt; overnight temps forecasted near freezing

A statewide AMBER Alert was issued late Monday morning for nine-year-old Jordan Allen Gorman, who went missing in Cheatham County over the weekend, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The TBI and Cheatham County Sheriff Mike Breedlove spoke Monday afternoon from a command post near New Life Community Church in Joelton, urging community members to be on the lookout for any signs of the boy, who is believed to be barefoot, wearing a short-sleeved gray t-shirt with red stripes on the arms and blue jeans.

“This is a race in time," Breedlove said. The National Weather Service in Nashville said the overnight low Sunday bottomed out at 34 degrees in Cheatham County. Monday's low was forecast in the upper-30s, the service said.

Residents in the area of Valley View Road in Joelton were being asked by authorities to walk their property and search crawlspaces, sheds and outbuildings - anywhere a child could take cover.

"He's a little boy," Breedlove said, adding that Jordan is four-feet tall and weighs 75 pounds. The TBI also said the boy has brown hair and brown eyes. "He’s just a very small child ... We’re all praying that we find him.”

Jordan was last seen in a heavily wooded area near his Joelton-area home on Sunday, the TBI reported.

The agency's spokesman Josh DeVine said Monday afternoon that investigators were trying to put together a timeline of what happened, leading up to the child's disappearance.

Investigators currently don't know what prompted the boy to leave, which direction he headed in when he left or when exactly the first 911 call was placed, DeVine said from the scene.

What is known is that the child was last seen Sunday morning, and the search for him began in earnest Sunday afternoon.

Right now, the focus is on finding the boy, DeVine said.

The search grid where officials are looking for the boy is described as very rough, with lots of drop offs and steep inclines.

In a quick map, Valley View Road in Joelton has a church on each end of it, and it does come to an end on each end. I did not have a numbered address so I just looked for the road. One of the churches is the one mentioned above, The New Life Community Church, which now sounds like a command post, so my guess would be the residence is closer to that end. It seems very wooded along Valley View if one switches from map to satellite. At the NLC Church, it is then Abernathy Road which also looks pretty rural.

Not sure how well my map skills will do but here is a link... I hope it is interactive so you can look from one end of the road to the other, etc. in satellite view and map view...

Family of missing Cheatham 9-year-old Jordan Allen Gorman is no stranger to tragedy

The parents of a missing 9-year-old Cheatham County boy at the center of a statewide AMBER alert are no strangers to tragedy, having lost an adult son about a decade ago in a car crash, according to their family pastor.

Jordan’s dad is “completely broken, saying I don’t think I can do this again,” Prior said Monday night.

The couple lost their first son, Josiah Adam Lassek, 24, in 2011 just before Christmas, according to an online obituary. They've been adopting and fostering children ever since, according to Tony Langdon, another family friend.

Jordan was adopted, Prior said. The boy has two full sisters, who were adopted with him, and there are two other boys in the house not related to him, he said.

The community is heartbroken, according to Langdon, who has known the family for a few years.

“We can’t believe this is happening to this family again,” he said, describing the couple as "amazing parents," who are very involved in their church. “There is less than 1% chance the parents have anything to do with his disappearance. (They’re) good people.”

Well maybe that explains the church at the end of the road nearby where they are staging, assuming it is the same church, hard to say. The one article made it sound as if they were looking at two homes centered around the church. I guess that is media for ya, probably just a staging area or somewhere they checked since church is involved in the family. So Jordan is adopted. He left upset and shoeless. Another cold night right now. My prayers continue.

Per this article, it looks like there was a delay in calling 911 so I don't know if it means the Sunday search was family and not LE or what exactly they mean by this. It is vague. Also in the article, it says his sister was allegedly the last to see him at the end of the driveway.

It still says it is unknown in what direction he went but wouldn't the dogs have helped determine that?

Another cold night passed...

The TBI said it wasn't clear when the first 911 call was placed in Jordan's disappearance, but that a search began for him Sunday afternoon.

It is not clear how long after Jordan went missing that authorities became involved, but Monday they searched the areas surrounding his home. The Cheatham County Sheriff said there was a delay between Jordan's disappearance and alerting authorities.

Emphasis is added by me. I don't like it when things like this start coming up in these cases and am simply pointing it out, I also do not like the vagueness. They must know when the first 911 call was so the vagueness must be that they aren't sure of the time he disappeared?

I am not saying anyone did anything just simply pointing out information. I hope they find this child and soon.

I don't know what the story is here but so tickled he is safe. Man it just overwhelmed me, I went into your recovery effort post and it must have just went up that he was safe like one minute before. I was totally surprised and thought I would be reading about recovery.

I did have hope just because he was not like toddler age but also things worried me with the reporting and a couple of cold nights they had while he was missing.

💖 💖 💖 💖 Such great news.
