'We're really scared right now': Family pleading for public's help finding missing mom

The family of Jill Sidebotham is speaking out Tuesday, five days after the disappearance of Jill, her two-year-old daughter, and who her family described as her ex-boyfriend, Nicholas Hansen.

"I'm not sure if maybe we misunderstood something ... But I don't think she would pull this," Reta Lyman said.

Lyman, Jill's oldest sister, said the last time Jill contacted her family was Tuesday.

"I'm the oldest, I'm supposed to be the one that looks after them but I can't ... I don't know what to do," Lyman said. "She's a good mom ... we need her back."

The Sanford Police Department says the trio was camping in the Phillips area in Franklin County. Jill's family said they were supposed to return home Thursday.

Jill's father, Ron Sidebotham, said leaving for such a long period of time is not common behavior for his daughter.

"I was worried the second my wife told me what they were doing ... I hate to say it but I don't trust the guy, there have been past issues with him," the father said.

Sanford police told NEWS CENTER Maine they don't consider the disappearance suspicious at this time, though they contacted every county agency to be on the lookout for the trio.

"We're really scared right now," Ron Sidebotham said. "Not knowing is almost as bad as if something bad did happen, not knowing is just eating away and eating away."

Tips pour in about location of missing Sanford woman and her daughter

Tips continue to pour into the Sanford Police Department about the location of a Sanford woman, her ex-boyfriend and their 2-year-old daughter, who were expected to return from a camping trip a week ago.

Lt. Matthew Gagne said it is concerning that the adults haven’t check in with family, but there is no indication of foul play. It is possible they are camping near the Franklin County town of Phillips. Hansen is from the Phillips area, he said.

The trio were in the Rumford area on June 29. Detectives were able to verify a sighting of them on July 1 using surveillance footage, but Gagne would not say where they were seen, citing the ongoing investigation.

“The areas where they’ve been sighted are remote and it wouldn’t be unusual for there not to be cellphone service,” Gagne said.

Gagne said Thursday that the police department has received numerous tips about possible sightings of Sidebotham and Hansen. Police are working with law enforcement partners in those areas to check for Sidebotham and Hansen and look for places that might have surveillance video to confirm they are in the area.

Police have not organized any searches for Sidebotham and Hansen because they have not been able to narrow down an area where they might be, Gagne said.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has checked on multiple tips, but has not had any contact with the trio, according to a representative for the department. The Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police have also been notified, according to police.

Police said Thursday there is no suspicion of anything nefarious but called the situation "unusual." They added that they've been receiving a lot of tips about it.
"We have no indication that the family is in danger, but out of caution, we would like to locate them," Sanford police said in a release.

‘It’s Tearing me Apart’: 2-Year-Old Girl, Parents Missing After Failing to Return Home from Camping Trip

Sidebotham’s mother reportedly said that she was first concerned about the trip because Hansen unexpectedly showed up and asked her daughter to join him camping.

Sidebotham and Hansen are separated, and she and the 2-year-old girl live with her parents in Sanford, Maine.

“My wife said she tried to stop her, but [Jill] said it would be fine,” Ron Sidebotham told the Boston Globe.

Sidebotham was supposed to spend time with her 10-year-old son on June 30, and the fact that she didn’t show up for the visit is unfathomable, according to Sidebotham’s parents.

Corey Alexander, Sidebotham’s fiancé, described her as a devoted mother and partner. He said he realized something was amiss when she stopped responding to his text messages.

“We had plans for the weekend,” Alexander told the Globe. “We were going to do stuff with the kids for the Fourth, and we were just going to have a nice, long weekend together. And then Friday came around, and I realized she wasn’t answering me. I knew something was wrong, something in my gut was just telling me that this isn’t right.”

Alexander added: “Her phone has been off since last Wednesday. I’ve been devastated ever since she didn’t answer. It’s tearing me apart. . . . I want them both home. I want them home so we can get married. I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I love her more than anything.”

Investigators say neither Sidebotham’s nor Hansen’s phone has received or sent signals since late June. Sidebotham’s phone was most recently active on June 28, while Hansen’s phone ended communications on June 29.

Authorities have determined that the parents and girl visited a Walmart in Mexico, Maine, on July 2, where they purchased food. Security camera footage does not appear to show anything concerning, according to a Facebook post from the Sanford Police Department.

10-Year-Old Boy Close to ‘Breaking Down’ With Mom, Baby Sister Missing

A 10-year-old boy is “hurting pretty bad” after his mother and half-sister disappeared while on a camping trip with her estranged partner.

“He’s trying so hard to keep it in,” Ron Sidebotham told UK tabloid The Daily Mail. “I think he’s just that one step from breaking down.”

“He’s trying to not let it get [to] him, but I can tell,” Sidebotham. “He’s gets snappy once in a while and he’s never like that, never snappy.

“He’s such a good boy, for him to be snapping like he has the past couple of days is out of character for him.”

Sidebotham said Nicholas Hansen is a known abuser and he’s worried because the man had “an obsession with Jill.” Hansen was arrested twice on domestic charges while he was with Jill, Sidebotham said.

Sidebotham said his wife Cottie tried to convince Jill, who is engaged to another man, not to go with Hansen, to no avail.

‘My daughter, of course, ends everything with “it will be fine,”‘ he said. ‘She has a fiancé, which is another thing that makes me wonder why and makes me think that she was taken against her will.’

Police say they are still actively looking for the family and that even though they appeared fine in the Walmart surveillance footage, they can’t say for sure until they see them in person.

Go camping. Yeah. Alone in the woods. No one can hear you scream. Being there have been issues with him in the past and they weren't together is a red flag to me. There have been other cases similar. And the person is deceased or still missing. And those didn't make sense either.

'MAKES NO SENSE'

Mystery messages sent by mom who vanished on trip with ex & toddler revealed by fiancé – who fears ‘something is wrong’

A MISSING mom reportedly sent her fiancé a series of messages - days after she vanished with her ex-boyfriend and their daughter on a camping trip.

Her phone has been reportedly turned off since June 28 but Alexander claimed that he received messages from her Facebook account the next day.

He said: "I'm not sure if they actually came from her phone or not."

Alexander doesn't believe that Hansen sent the messages but fears if he saw them, "they may have set him off".

Press brake operator Alexander told Jill that he loved her as he replied to a text she had reportedly sent.

Jill responded: "Love you too n have a good day (sic)."

Alexander then replied: "You too baby. Just made my morning all the better hearing from you."

She later sent a love heart, before saying that she missed him.

Alexander said that he was looking forward to watching Stranger Things and that was the last message he received.

Alexander revealed that he has been in pain since Jill disappeared.

'Wish we knew what to do': Police, family seek help to find missing Maine mom and daughter

Nothing about the situation sounds right to Ron Sidebotham, a local father who for two weeks now has been unable to locate his daughter and granddaughter.

“You try hard not to think bad thoughts, but they’re there in the back of your head,” Sidebotham said on Tuesday. “I have to stay positive.”

The criminal investigation division of the Sanford Police Department is trying to locate Jill, Lydia, and Hansen. The department has been posting updates of its investigation and is asking statewide for the public’s help.

The police said they had a confirmed sighting of Jill, Lydia and Hansen at the Walmart in Mexico, Maine, on Saturday, July 2, at approximately 4 p.m.

The police added that the last known vehicle to be associated with Jill, Lydia and Hansen is a silver 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, with a Maine registration plate of 1563VJ.

“At this time, we are attempting to locate them to check their well-being,” the department posted on July 8. “We have no indication the family is in danger, but out of caution, we would like to confirm this and advise them of the extended family’s concerns.”

Sidebotham said he is aware that some people might be thinking his daughter just wants to get away for a while — that she might not want to be found, as it is sometimes said in these circumstances. He said he knows his daughter and is certain that is not the case. Jill would never leave indefinitely and not stay in touch with her family, he said.

“This is not something Jill would do to anyone, especially her son,” Sidebotham said.

Sidebotham said Jill and Hansen had a relationship that ended about 10 years ago.

Jill and Lydia live with the Sidebothams. Sidebotham said Hansen had showed up at their home twice in the few weeks leading up to Jill and Lydia’s disappearance, and those instances had been the first time they had seen him in “probably at least a year.”

Sidebotham said he just wants his daughter and granddaughter to be home and to be safe.

“I wish we knew what to do next,” he said.

Missing Maine parents and toddler: Aerial search comes up empty as detectives visit last known location

Maine police released new images Monday as they continue asking for the public to come forward with any details or possible sightings of a missing mom, her ex and their 2-year-old daughter, who vanished almost three weeks ago.

Jill Sidebotham, 28, Nicholas Hansen, 38, and their toddler Lydia set off on June 27 for what was supposed to be a three-day camping trip. Newly released surveillance images show the clothes they were wearing on June 29 at the campground.

Police have confirmed two sightings, on June 29 and July 2, the latter at a Walmart store in Mexico, Maine, about 100 miles from Sidebotham’s home in Sanford.

Detectives visited Mexico to investigate some leads Friday, Sanford Police Lt. Matthew Gagne told Fox News Digital. Store clerks who encountered the parents and child reported nothing unusual and no signs of distress.

Despite reports that Hansen may have been abusive, police have no evidence that Sidebotham was in distress and say she went on the trip voluntarily. Hansen’s state criminal records contained no violent convictions.

"We don't have any evidence to believe that this is a kidnapping or some sort of abduction," Gagne said.

Newly released images show the three entering a store at the Coos Canyon Campground on June 29. In different screengrabs from surveillance video, both parents can be seen carrying Lydia. Sidebotham is wearing a black T-shirt and light-colored shorts. Hansen is wearing a red T-shirt with the sleeves cut off. He has a short beard and a bald patch on the back of his head.

Lydia was wearing red.

The Maine Warden Service led two aerial searches around Mexico and Rangeley last week looking for the car the missing group was believed to be traveling in: a silver 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, with a black rear bumper and Maine license plate 1563VJ. They found nothing.

"The vehicle has not been seen at all," Gagne said. "We don't even have a photo of it."

So they say both parents can be seen carrying the child in which case it would seem mom is with him willingly BUT these photos sure don't show that, he has control of the baby. The article also makes it sound as if all is okay and I get a still shot can look odd and not tell all but in this first one he looks rushed, bent and the child looks uncomfortable and so does she in the second one in which he looks testy or a bit stressed.

First if someone had control of my child which is as it appears here, I would do ANYTHING.

Second, they have been missing since the end of June/4th of July or at least awhile now? Something is VERY wrong and they are dead and can't make contact or something on that order.

Third and finally, she is with him willingly but doesn't know how or doesn't have the guts to tell her family or fiancee this is what she wants.

I can't think of much in the way of another scenario.

They would definitely need supplies by now, especially with a toddler in tow.

I didn't like the posture of the toddler either, but yes, it 'might' just be the still pic they are showing. It looks to me like she is trying hard to reach for her mom, but also know that toddlers will be toddlers and just get cranky.
