They would definitely need supplies by now, especially with a toddler in tow.

I didn't like the posture of the toddler either, but yes, it 'might' just be the still pic they are showing. It looks to me like she is trying hard to reach for her mom, but also know that toddlers will be toddlers and just get cranky.
I don't like how he's looking at her. He's not happy about it. He looks mad. I know it can get very, Very. frustrating. But I don't give this guy the benefit of the doubt of not doing anything.

Family members of missing campers plea: ‘Come home’

Before Jill Sidebotham left her parents’ house in Springvale for an impromptu camping trip with Nicholas Hansen and their toddler, she told her mom, “It will be fine.”

But no one has seen or heard from the parents or child for more than three weeks. Sidebotham’s family reported her missing when she did not return within a few days for her July 4 weekend plans with her 10-year-old son. Police have circulated photos, visited campgrounds and searched for their car by plane in the western Maine woods.

Their first notices about the case described the three missing people as a family, but the truth is more complicated. Family members say Sidebotham and Hansen are no longer a couple, and she is engaged to another man. Court records show Hansen previously has been accused of domestic violence assault against Sidebotham, and a protection order that limited contact with her and 2-year-old Lydia expired in June.

Now both families are worried that they may not be fine at all.

“As hard as I try to keep the negativity out of my mind, I can’t do it,” said Ron Sidebotham, her father.

Loved ones have been sending daily messages to Sidebotham and Hansen, calling their phones that have been dead or off for weeks, posting on social media. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has shared their pictures. The Sanford Police Department has only been able to confirm two sightings, the most recent July 2.

“Come home,” begged Kelly Hansen, his sister. “Let us know you’re OK.”

Family members said they believe investigators are doing everything they can with the limited information they have, but they also wish the police could take more dramatic action.

Lt. Matthew Gagné of the Sanford Police Department said the available information and surveillance footage do not give him enough evidence to draw the conclusion that Sidebotham or her daughter are in danger. Police would need more to support a warrant for cellphone records, for example.

“We don’t have a criminal charge that we can chase after with this incident,” Gagné said. “We don’t have any information that leads us to believe that she was taken against her will or kidnapped. We don’t have any information that she is being held against her will. That’s not to say that didn’t happen, but we just don’t know.”

Still, investigators are following every one of the tips that come in daily. The two confirmed sightings took place in the first days after Sidebotham and Hansen left on June 27.

On June 29, they stopped at the Coos Canyon Campground in Byron, but they left because there was no vacancy. On July 2, they bought food at a Walmart in the town of Mexico. Gagné said they purchased enough for several days, but not this length of time. Police used surveillance camera footage to confirm both sightings.

A protection order expiring in June and limited contact with child. Why? Time dulls memories I guess so didn't renew the order or thought he had changed. Praying they are safe.

'Don't give up on us': Maine woman and her daughter, age 2, still missing after 1 month

This week makes a solid month since police and family members have had any indication of the whereabouts of a Sanford mother, her ex-boyfriend, and their 2-year-old daughter.

"This is still an active investigation,” Gagne said. “Until the three of them are located, we’ll continue to search.”

Police are asking members of the public to keep an eye out for a silver 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, the last known vehicle that Sidebotham, Lydia and Hansen were known to be using. The vehicle’s Maine registration plate is 1563VJ. Anyone who sees either the three of them or their vehicle is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency, Gagne said.

Sidebotham said he knows the Sanford Police Department is doing “everything they can” to find his daughter and granddaughter.

“It’s a needle-in-a-haystack kind of thing at this point,” he said.

The search has attracted national media attention, with outlets from New England Cable News to People magazine reporting.

Sidebotham said he and his wife want everyone who is helping in the search — distributing flyers, posting on social media — to know how much they appreciate their efforts. He said he hopes such efforts to locate his daughter continue.

I fear they are either dead or he planned this and has them all holed up somewhere as hostages. A cabin, roughing it, a car or entirely in another state...

Unless those who know her believe she would choose to flee with him and leave her other life behind. Doesn't sound like it though.

He had it all planned out. I wonder what areas in the wilderness were familiar to him?

But on Tuesday, detectives were able to speak with Lydia and her parents, according to police. They said in a statement that "each party is unharmed and safe, and no evidence of criminal behavior has been observed."

At their request, the statement didn't share where the family was or why they left, but police did say that local law enforcement met up with them and verified they were safe.

SANFORD, Maine —
The Sanford Police Department said a man, woman, and child who disappeared from the area more than two months ago are safe.

It began with an email to 8 Investigates. The email was believed to have been sent by Jill Sidebotham. "I am far from missing," it said.

WMTW turned the information over to the Sanford Police Department which has been working on the case since late June.

With that information, detectives were able to track down Sidebotham, Nick Hansen, and their 2-year-old daughter, Lydia, who had gone off on a camping trip on June 28.

They were supposed to return in a few days but never returned. In early July, they were spotted shopping for groceries at a Walmart in the western Maine town of Mexico. There were no other confirmed sightings, police said.

On Wednesday, Sept. 7, a person claiming to be Nick Hansen called 8 Investigates and spoke with reporter Terry Stackhouse.

A day later, on Thursday, Sept. 8, Sanford police contacted the couple and arranged for a video conference with police to check on their well-being. Sanford police also asked law enforcement from another state to check on the couple and the child.

Sidebotham and Hansen requested that their location and reasons for leaving Maine remain private.

Hansen spoke with WMTW again on Friday, Sept. 9 over the phone and shared a bit more information about where they were and why they left.

"We've solely hop-scotched across the country. We've gone from town, to town, to town," said Hansen. "We go to church regularly now. A new thing for both of us. Weekly, we go to church and 99.9 percent of the time I can find side work in a church," he said.

Hansen declined to say where they were. He said they have no plans to return to Maine. He said they left to escape a "toxic situation."

Ron Sidebotham, Jill Sidebotham's father, said he is still baffled by all this.

"There was no toxic anything here. I mean, we were the house all of the kids wanted to come to and hang out with our kids," said Ron Sidebotham.

He can't understand why his daughter has cut off all contact with family, including her 10-year-old son. The son lives with his father in the Sanford area.

"I have so many more questions now," Ron Sidebotham said.

Sanford police said the full story may never be known. Lt. Matthew Gagne said it is hard to tell, with all the people in the mix, who is being 100 percent honest.

"As far as we are concerned, this case is closed," Gagne said.

I feel for her son, what a cruel behaviour of her. I just don’t want to believe a mother would act like that. He (Hansen)does almost all the talking, weird . I am not convinced this was really voluntary. But okay, case closed🤷‍♂️

I wondered about this one in the beginning. Allegedly she had a boyfriend and was done with this guy and wouldn't go with him per family and yet she voluntarily was going with him at least for the weekend with her child. Maybe family preferred the one guy over the other? Or she felt pushed that way?

And yet they probably have their reasons if that is the case.

I think she made this choice willingly very likely just based on she was going at least for the weekend with him but it may come back to bite her in the butt as far as her choice, however, maybe the alternative wasn't good either.

I didn't really get what her dad meant as to everyone wanted to come to their place to play with their kids. Does he have minors at home or what does he mean? The son is with his father, not with grandpa if I understand it correctly...

I wonder about all sides in this one and that is about what LE is saying too, hard to say what is truth and what isn't or who from...
