Rescue teams searching for missing Robeson County woman after sex offender found driving her car

The disappearance of a 42-year-old woman out of Robeson County is being called suspicious and likely unlawful, according to Robeson County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said they have reason to believe foul play is involved in the disappearance of Jessica Lawrence.

On Monday morning, North Carolina search and rescue teams from state emergency management were searching for her on Hubbard Road near Rowland.

Lawrence was last seen at her home on Coy Road in St. Pauls, North Carolina, on Sept. 26. She was first reported missing by a family member on Oct. 12.

On Oct. 14, investigators found Lawrence's 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee in Red Springs being driven by someone else
.

That someone else was 42-year-old Michael Brayboy. He was arrested and charged with failure to report a change of address by a sex offender. He was booked into the Robeson County Detention Center on a $1.5 million bond.

"We can't discuss details of where the investigation is at this point but many leads have been established and evidence has been obtained," Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said. "We are asking for the public's assistance in regards to anyone that observed Brayboy in the vehicle described or may have seen him with Lawrence around September 26-27, 2021 to come forward."

Missing Robeson County woman was headed on trip with boyfriend when she vanished, friend says

Search crews are looking in ponds, wooded areas, and using drones and cadaver dogs to find 42-year Jessica Lawrence, who went missing in September.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office tells CBS17 that they found a cellphone during their search on Hubbard Road near Rowland and are working to confirm if it belonged to Lawrence.

Lawrence, who used to live in High Point, was last seen on Sept. 26 but was not reported missing until last week.

Deputies in Robeson County say she left work at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville and stopped by her home in St. Pauls, located about 30 minutes north of Lumberton.

Linda Locklear lives next door and tells CBS 17 Lawrence just moved to the neighborhood.

“I let her have curtains to put up before she got her stuff in there and we just hit it off. It was just like we knew each other for years,” Locklear said of their friendship. “I don’t have a vehicle so she said ‘girl you don’t have to worry about going to town now’ because she said ‘I’ll take you whenever you want to.’”

Locklear said Lawrence and her boyfriend, 42-year-old Michael Brayboy, had plans to go to Pembroke the night she went missing.

“That night is the last night that I’ve seen that vehicle or him or her,” Locklear said.

When Lawrence didn’t meet her landlord to pay rent, Locklear said they went inside her house on Oct. 12 to check on her.

“We saw stains on the wall and stains on the curtain and a bloody sock on the floor,” Locklear said.

Deputies found Bradboy driving Lawrence’s Jeep Grand Cherokee in Red Springs on Oct. 13, weeks after she was last seen.

Court records show Bradboy is a convicted sex offender and spent more than 20 years in prison for rape. He has not been charged in Lawrence’s disappearance, but deputies did arrest him for failing to report a change of address by a sex offender.

He is in the Robeson County Detention Center on a $1.5 million bond. Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said he suspects foul play in Lawrence’s disappearance.

Fayetteville med center worker still missing after sex offender found driving her Jeep; 50+ involved in search

A woman who works in Fayetteville is still missing, three weeks after she was last seen and nearly a week after she was reported missing.

“We hope for the best, but we’re just assuming we’re going to see the worst based on what we’ve found so far,” Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said as large searches were underway Monday.

Searches Monday were based on information and evidence found in her car, home, and near the road, Wilkins said.

Monday, more than 50 people were out searching near Rowland in Robeson County.

Crews used drones and cadaver dogs to search the area near Hubbard Road. The brush was so dense in some areas that they had to cut through with machetes.

“Some of them are on foot, some of them are on four-wheelers,” Wilkins said. “The cadaver dogs are trying their best to, worst-case scenario, try to locate her.”

Wilkins said crews also searched several ponds, some chest-deep.

“The searching of these specific areas is the result of information and evidence obtained during the investigation,” Robeson County officials said in a statement Monday.

Lawrence is believed to have been at her home on Coy Road in St. Pauls on Sept. 26, when she vanished.

But, she was not reported missing until last week.

“It’s one of those where I wish we had a quicker report of her missing,” Wilkins said.

I wish there had been a quicker report of her missing, too! And I also wish they would plaster her, the BF and the car on social media as they've done in Gabby Petito's case!

Such a world and one has to wonder just who is running it because so many get let out that so many disagree should be let out but still it goes on.

Sex offenders. Never. The registry is a joke. I see no benefit from it. People want to argue the death penalty has no effect on crime. Either does the registry. Answer, Put them to death, That's paying for your crime. You kill, You die. And Stay in prison until you die because sex offenders can't be rehabilitated.

Missing woman’s remains were bound with electrical cord and burned, NC autopsy finds

Jessica Lawrence, a North Carolina lab technician who went missing in September before her remains were found in late October, had been bound with electrical cord and burned beyond recognition, according to an autopsy.

Lawrence’s body was found on Oct. 25 in a pile of trash in a wooded area off a dirt road. Her feet had been bound with an electrical cord and her body was burned to the point where little soft tissue was left, according to the autopsy report.

Because of the condition of her remains, forensic technicians could not determine a single cause of death, but stated in the report that she died of “homicidal violence of undetermined means.”

Horrible.

Nowadays it is so easy to do a background check on a guy.. Women need to start doing that instead of giving the benefit of the doubt UNTIL something makes one wonder and only later maybe find out IF you survive it.
