KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Community members will soon come together for a prayer and to canvas for a Kansas City, Missouri, child who's been missing since Feb. 2, 2023.

Jayden Robker, 13, was last seen on that day leaving his home on a skateboard near NW Plaza Drive and NW Plaza Avenue.

Robker's family believes he was riding east on NW Englewood Road at around 3:30 p.m.

Robker's parents released a statement on Feb. 10 pleading for information that could help bring their child home.

Jay, mom and dad love and miss you very much. We are very concerned for your safety and want you home. If you feel like you are in trouble, please try and let someone know. To Jay's friends and anyone who may know anything, we encourage you to contact the Kansas City Police Department or the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, with any information you may have. Jay, this is mom...I just want you home and I want to know that you are safe. I've always told you that I will move mountains for you and I always will. Your brother and sisters miss you so much, we love you.
Heather and Eric Robker

Robker's parents told KSHB 41 they're planning the canvas in conjunction with the AdHoc Group Against Crime.

Before the canvas, the family will host a 13-hour prayer next weekend on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

@Guess Who. That's a good theory. Him walking on ice. I wondered how he would be in the pond. First thing I thought is someone disposed of him there. I was afraid this was going to be the end result. It's tragic no matter what the situation.

My mind has been completely overwhelmed. Great catch @RoundPeg. I wouldn't think you could ride it on ice. But if he was holding onto it walking next to it, I would think it would have gone in with him. If not, Then there's a big problem. Since they didn't find it on the ice. If that was what happened.

Was KCPD too late in raising alarm after Jayden Robker went missing? What experts say

From the time 13-year-old Jayden Robker disappeared in Kansas City’s Northland, it took four days for the Kansas City Police Department to alert the public that he was missing.

For Jayden’s mother, Heather Robker, that was too long to wait.

After five weeks of searching for her son, Robker’s fears were confirmed Friday when his body was found in a wooded area about a mile from their home near Northwest Plaza Drive and Northwest Plaza Avenue.

Since then, one missing persons advocate has echoed Robker’s feeling that police should have notified the public sooner. Kansas City police have said they were delayed by difficulty in obtaining a recent photo of him from the family.

Derrica Wilson, co-founder of the Black & Missing Foundation, said police should have put out a news release the night Jayden was reported missing. Later, when a photo became available, they could have put out an updated flier, she said.

“There’s no such thing as small information,” Wilson said. “Everything is critical . . . I think it could’ve made a huge difference, because someone may have seen this young man.”

Christopher Boyer, executive director of the nonprofit National Association For Search And Rescue, said an up-to-date photo is “abolutely essential” when putting out a public notice on a missing person.

“Typical policy for most police departments is ‘if we don’t have a picture, then we’re probably not going to go sending out that missing person flier,’” he said.

I don't know that it would have made any difference in the long run on this particular case, but i sure can't figure out a good reason for the delay at all. In this day and age of photos everywhere, it should have been easy to get one that would work for the release. The school would have one that would be fairly current and that sure wouldn't have taken 5 weeks to get. The family might have at least had answers much, much earlier. They must have felt so lost.

I don't understand that at all! GET A PICTURE!!! WTH?!!!! It sounds like an excuse for laziness.

More than a year before 13-year-old Jayden Robker was found dead in a pond near his Kansas City home in the Northland, he told police he was being abused by his stepfather, according to a report obtained by The Star.

The report, written by Gladstone police after Jayden ran away from home in November 2021, led police officers to contact the Missouri Department of Social Services. It is unclear what actions were taken by the state agency, which is charged with responding to reports of child abuse.

But the report was made about 15 months before Jayden’s mother reported him missing from his home in February. His body was discovered by police five weeks later in a wooded area about a mile from his home near Northwest Plaza Drive and Northwest Plaza Avenue.

Now, police in Gladstone, where Jayden’s body was found just across the city limits, say the investigation into his death is ongoing and a detective is assigned to the case. The department has said preliminary autopsy results indicated no obvious signs of foul play.

Jayden’s mother and stepfather have moved away from the Kansas City area. Neither have been named as suspects or persons of interest in the investigation, according to Capt. Karl Burris, a spokesman for the Gladstone Police Department.

Jayden’s uncle, Derek Robker, and other loved ones told The Star they feel the Department of Social Services, or DSS, failed Jayden, regardless of how he ended up in the pond.

He and others believe Jayden was living in an unsafe home environment prior to his disappearance — and had even communicated their concerns to DSS, Robker told The Star.

Another thought is that there is a hill that goes up from QT on Broadway and then crests and starts downhill. He "might" have been going fast on his scooter and/or hit a slick spot and possible landed there. It's quite brush with trees in a thin line between the sidewalk and the pond and the sidewalk is elevated from the area where the trees and pond are.

The trees on the right border the pond's edge. Where you see the black car, you can see where there is a path that leads to the pond. I think if he had taken the path, they wouldn't have said the wooded area in one of the articles and I think he would have been found much faster. I easily could see him losing control going down the hill on his scooter and it pitching him off in the wooded part, especially if he had hit a patch of ice or snow. The only thing that keeps me from that thought is this is a pretty busy road and I would think several people would have seen him fall off in the daytime. The traffic on the google pic is pretty much the way it is all the time on that road - not heavy traffic, but nearly always some traffic.

The very first I've read of or seen this case. It is odd and makes little sense to me.

I didn't read all the links but for one did LE ever confirm he was seen at Quiktrip or however you spell yours? (Ours is Kwik Trip) They continually say he was last seen at such and such a street which I think is his home.

Also did they find his skateboard? And where?

Very strange they couldn't come up with a current picture of him.

It isn't typical to ask in a case of a child this old but is there a time anyone other than family last saw him? again the Quik Trip thing doesn't seem to be confirmed.

Something is missing here. I don't know what but something is.

they can criticize the police but if you had a missing child wouldn't you find a current picture as soon as POSSIBLE??? Or as close to current as you have???

I could read a flyer with description of a child and clothing and it wouldn't mean much without a picture unless it painted a really good one of them or you are going to get calls of every 13 year old looking boy in the area walking down any street.

The police should get a picture you mean or the family???

I can tell you right now I don't have a recent pic of my grandkids handy but I sure the heck could provide one in short order by asking the right person or getting my last one of not THAT long ago, at least in the last year. Yes the PD could have tried to get a current one from school or somewhere but they are one thing, what is with the PARENTS not providing one???

AS for a school picture, I didn't read the links but was it said anywhere in this case that he went to school? Sure he wasn't home schooled or some such?

Oh and here we go. Of course there was more to it. Sorry I was reading the case for the first time and commenting as I went along.

So yeah it was stepdad or dad right who said when the kid left, that he heated himself up a sandwich, etc. right? Uh-huh. Mom was working two jobs and a double shift before she noticed, etc. Okay. Does dad work?

And they had no current pictures of him. Okay...

And he claimed abuse by stepdad. Hmmm.

No one apparently could even obtain or access a school or activity photo. Wow.

Six kids or whatever. Did none have phones or take any pics of each other or anything?

Gee.

And not a WORD about the skateboard.

And that I saw not a single confirmation he was seen at Quik Trip or anywhere outside that house and EVEN if he was on THAT CERTAIN date just when was he otherwise seen independently... AND was he on a skateboard at Quik Trip? Who said he was to begin with? Dad?

There isn't one single satisfactory fact here so far as I can see.

QT was easy to confirm since they have the most excellent surveillance cameras - a lot with sound. They saw him heading out on his scooter from there after using the restroom. What gets me is why did it take so long, especially for a family with cps history, to even have a blip, then to find out they had a good idea where he was last and which direction he headed out.

The schools have one on file from picture day at the beginning of school. Either party could have gotten that, both the parents and LE. The school was unaware a current pic was the holdup of of any info about him coming out.

It tells what school he attended

Any info on the scooter had been kept quite. We don't know if they found it or not.

I'd say the withholding of that alone makes this all suspect.

Has it even been confirmed he TRULY left on one or is that just on the say so of the dad who I assume is the stepdad?
