Starting a thread for Jay for a request.

On June 16, the apprentice bricklayer was among hundreds of young people enjoying themselves at the popular festival at Papagayo nightclub on June 16. His friend, Lucy, left earlier than the other as she was tired and revealed she had seen him with two men he is believed to have left with between the hours of 3am and 6am.

In the early hours of Monday June 17, the teenager travelled with the men back to their Airbnb just outside of the rural and "treacherous" Masca village. Jay made his last phone call to his friend, Lucy Mae Law, before his battery died at around 8.15am. Lucy, who travelled out with Jay on his first holiday abroad with friends, revealed that he told her that he was hungry, thirsty and had cut his leg on a cactus.

Mr Slater, an apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, had been on the island with Mr Hargreaves and another friend, Lucy Law, to attend the NRG music festival.

In the early hours of 17 June he reportedly left his friends in the tourist hotspot of Playa de las Americas and got into a car with two British men.

He posted an image on Snapchat at 07:30 that morning showing his hand holding a cigarette.

It was tagged in Rural de Teno national park, about 40 minutes drive away from where he was staying.

Based on calls he made to Mr Hargreaves and Ms Law over the next hour, Mr Slater's family believe he left an Airbnb in Masca, which had been rented by the two men, and attempted to get a bus.

Investigators have spoken to the pair and they are "not in any way relevant to the case".

Mr Hargreaves told ITV's This Morning he received a video call from Mr Slater in which he appeared to be sliding off a designated path, with the call showing his feet on rough ground.

Speaking to ITV last week, Mr Hargreaves said: "I don’t know how or what has gone on there but he’s gone off and rang me halfway to their house saying 'I’m staying here and I’ll be back the next day'.

"At the time I didn't think anything of it. I just thought he was going to get a bus home or a taxi home because that's what he says he is going to do.

"Next thing you know his phone dies and it's 10 days on now and nothing since."

It sure is odd. I would have thought they had already searched that last ping location but maybe it covered a large area.

I remember when Abby and Libby's relatives were trying to get the phones pinged the day they went missing but it didn't seem to work.
Well you'd think they would have searched most intensively where the last ping was. I guess it says "may" have been an accident. I'd also like to know what finding his body near his clothes means. Still not understand and WHY would these men drive them to their home or lodging but then not provide him with any kind of return ride? Did the except him to walk 11 miles or whatever it was to his hotel? Also could they not him charge his phone even? Perhaps he just took off but why and why go in the first place. This is far from having all the answers imo, several more need to come.

Yeah I don't know what's fact there in Abby and Libby. I recall hearing that but I also recall hearing her phone was pinging all over town or some such, later said not be the case but it almost seemed to me it was a family member who said that. You know I've never really stopped to think what else might be on it either until Tom pointed out how the defense wants EVERYTHING on the phone not allowed in at trial.

Also supposedly it was her grandma's old phone, she'd had trouble with hers and/or it was factory reset or some such. I figured not much on it then always but who knows... In the Soto case, he thought he got rid of all his pedo pictures, etc. by resetting but they were able to retrieve them all. And of course was it that day, day before, when that she had a different phone, IF true. There could be more on there and more even from that day.

I guess if I want to say more about that, I should probably switch to their thread.

Back to this one, I'd certainly wonder about drugs I guess and what kind of shape he was in. As well as who provided them if there were any and why they again let him leave with an almost dead cell, no ride, no water and a long way from where he needed to get to. What is it with this age group when they've all been taught (I'd think) the one thing you don't do is leave a friend alone nor should you yourself be alone, go off alone or with strangers, etc. When in another country or state particularly. I'm not blaming but am saying that simple rule would have saved more than a few, not that depending on everyone's condition if partying, some things might not go out the window but still. And these men smh.

How far had he gotten from their place? Could he not have went back...?

I don't know. Isn't adding up at all unless he was a big mess (drugs, alcohol).

I'm sorry this was the result for the family. Also how do we know the men even ever took him to their place... I guess he likely told those he called.

According to the map scale in this DM article, he was found only a mile from the AirBnB. There is also a picture of the village (Masca) and it looks like it is up in the mountains. So he didn't get very far at all. Timeline also shows he was lost within half an hour. 7:30 a.m. he posts pic at AirBnb and 8.00 a.m posts he is lost in the mountains. 8.50 a.m. last ping of phone. Tragic really but also reminds me of the guy, Michael Mosley just recently who went missing in Crete and was found dead too after going for a walk in searing heat. Link below from the Sun comparing the two deaths. Plus the link with the Jay Slater maps and timeline.

It's easy to see how the first few searches didn't find him.

Good post. Really shows the terrain, etc. I haven't read the links or comparison of cases. Still, I have questions go figure.

The bit about the clothing and possessions found near him. What did he do, tumble and hit many things as they've basically said and kept falling and his clothing and possessions did as well or were with him? Why as i've asked did he have everything with him if that is what that was to mean? Was he not going back ever when he left to his friends and place they were staying and then something changed?

I'm not even saying there was necessarily foul play here but maybe a falling out or some such.

There are just a lot of questions that remain imo.

I mean why go in the first place. To party is the guess of course. With a couple of men. Who brought him there but then coudln't be bothered to bring him back?

As a parent, and even as a stranger which we are, there aren't enough answers for me yet.

It seems he didnt want to hang around to leave later or wait for a bus. I am guessing he had his clothes and belongings with him in a bag or case. There is an interview with one of the guys he stayed with who says he offered him a lift for later on but Jay didnt want to wait.

Well, the one article said he missed the bus so what is true there is hard to say. Is the interview actually viewable, I'll admit I haven't looked for things on this one. And for me, what people say last seen with etc., I don't necessarily give automatic thought to such being fact.

It certainly could have been just the condition he was in but first he didn't want to go back to the hotel with the female friend and wanted to party further with these guys and then he doesn't want to wait for a ride or a bus and wanted to get back....?

Walking 11 miles or whatever it was isn't going to get him back any more quickly than waiting for the bus or a ride imo.

Tox is definitely something that still needs to come and answers as to why he went with the men, what they all did and so forth.

If he had his clothes or belongings with him, I'd say they need to be a bit more clear on it, did he initially have no intention of going back to where he was staying with the friend or staying for a time? Sounds more planned then. They also need to be clear what near him means because if he hit one thing after another as one article sounded going down to where he ended up the stuff is no thing to bounce with him, I just can't quite picture that. Although I guess he could have let go of something and it continued down too and was found "near" him.

It makes it sound quite honestly as though "his clothes" were found nearby and that gives the illusion he was not wearing any. News for you I guess.

However, I don't like thinking that way but the fact he mentioned he had no water seemed to indicate he was hot or dehydrated so maybe he stripped as many talk in some cases on here about certain states of taking certain drugs...?
