Starting a thread for Jay for a request.

On June 16, the apprentice bricklayer was among hundreds of young people enjoying themselves at the popular festival at Papagayo nightclub on June 16. His friend, Lucy, left earlier than the other as she was tired and revealed she had seen him with two men he is believed to have left with between the hours of 3am and 6am.

In the early hours of Monday June 17, the teenager travelled with the men back to their Airbnb just outside of the rural and "treacherous" Masca village. Jay made his last phone call to his friend, Lucy Mae Law, before his battery died at around 8.15am. Lucy, who travelled out with Jay on his first holiday abroad with friends, revealed that he told her that he was hungry, thirsty and had cut his leg on a cactus.

Mr Slater, an apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, had been on the island with Mr Hargreaves and another friend, Lucy Law, to attend the NRG music festival.

In the early hours of 17 June he reportedly left his friends in the tourist hotspot of Playa de las Americas and got into a car with two British men.

He posted an image on Snapchat at 07:30 that morning showing his hand holding a cigarette.

It was tagged in Rural de Teno national park, about 40 minutes drive away from where he was staying.

Based on calls he made to Mr Hargreaves and Ms Law over the next hour, Mr Slater's family believe he left an Airbnb in Masca, which had been rented by the two men, and attempted to get a bus.

Investigators have spoken to the pair and they are "not in any way relevant to the case".

Mr Hargreaves told ITV's This Morning he received a video call from Mr Slater in which he appeared to be sliding off a designated path, with the call showing his feet on rough ground.

Speaking to ITV last week, Mr Hargreaves said: "I don’t know how or what has gone on there but he’s gone off and rang me halfway to their house saying 'I’m staying here and I’ll be back the next day'.

"At the time I didn't think anything of it. I just thought he was going to get a bus home or a taxi home because that's what he says he is going to do.

"Next thing you know his phone dies and it's 10 days on now and nothing since."

Jay Slater search called off by Tenerife police

The search for missing British teenager Jay Slater in Tenerife has been called off, police say.

Tenerife's Guardia Civil told the BBC: “The search operation is over. Yesterday was the final day of the search."

The 19-year-old from Lancashire has been missing since 17 June, after he told a friend he was lost in the mountains.

A family friend, who is on the island, said they would carry on the search and were looking for people with rescue experience to help.

Police carried out a new search on Saturday with the help of dozens of emergency workers near the village of Masca, in the Rural de Teno national park.

Confirming that the search for Mr Slater was no longer "active", a Guardia Civil spokeswoman told Reuters that "the case is still open and there are several lines of investigation".

Since the teenager disappeared almost two weeks ago, the Spanish authorities have deployed helicopter crews, specially trained search dogs and drones.

Rachel Hargreaves, the mother of Mr Slater's best friend Brad Hargreaves is in Tenerife supporting his family.

She told the BBC: "We're just carrying on searching ourselves."

She said the family would speak to the Spanish authorities on Monday to learn more about their investigation into the disappearance.

A new search on Saturday focused on an area previously explored but was intended to be more extensive after a call was put out for help from volunteers with specialist mountain experience.

It was hoped the operation would be a “massive search” but less than 12 members of the public had arrived at the meeting point shortly before it began, BBC reporters on the ground observed.

The search took in ravines and steep, rocky terrain that surrounded the small village where Mr Slater was last seen.

He was last heard from before 09:00 BST in the Rural de Teno Park, where he called a friend to say he had missed the bus and was trying to make the 10-hour walk back to their accommodation in the south of the island.

Lucy Law said Mr Slater told her during a frantic phone call that he was "lost in the mountains", desperately needed a drink and had 1% battery on his phone.

I don't know if it's the translation or what but this all makes little sense to me and is confusing. Are the British men he left with his friends or part of their group or strangers? And why did he go with them or go anywhere else to begin with? More is confusing but can't even recall what right now but mountains, Masca, calling friends, calling one of the men was it also? Just confusing.

Kids this age are vulnerable as heck when they go on a trip and especially a drinking trip. In their own country bad enough, out of country or area in their own country, even more so. Look at Riley Strain, Natalee Holloway, so MANY. They've got the age but not the experience or wisdom, common sense, street smarts, and so on. You can drill in the buddy system and look, they all ignore it or many do anyhow.

Hopefully he's found safe but didn't even have a charged phone with him or so it sounds.

Again it's confusing and I find it hard to make heads or tails of what likely happened here or where he was when, and why.

Something is really off in this case. Today I read that Jay had texted someone before he went to stay with 2 guys in an AirBnB that he had found a $10k Rolex watch. I will see if I can post a link.

These are a couple of the latest articles.

These are a couple of the latest articles.

Hmm. thought it sounded odd from the start as to why he'd go anywhere that far away with two men, etc. and now sounds odder yet. and he tells friends and family he stole a Rolex? WTH?

Also, £48k has been raised in public donations to his family.

Well I won't share some of the thoughts I had from the start here. Mostly because I have no real basis for them but they are something I think most that think of all possibilities would wonder. It reminds me of some cases is another reason.

I didn't like the fundraising right off as it wasn't clear where it would all be going.

I actually hope ONE possibility, not saying there aren't others, is right because he'd be alive then.

It's impossible to say at this point what the deal is but the whole thing was and has been odd from the very first post here.

However he very well could have met with foul play or been out of water and phone service.... And who knows about these men...

New lead?

Is 14 days an abrupt end to a search? I don't know what is considered long enough. To a parent whose kid is still missing, I'm sure it can never be long enough and should never end. If he truly is lost maybe they should continue searching or did they call it off abruptly as they determined something else. Hard to say.

I still don't understand what was going on here. On its face it would seem it was young adults out of country partying and another case of where they think they are invincible and know what they are doing and where the friends don't stay together in the "buddy system" watching out for one another and then he goes missing. But then comes him TELLING people he stole a Rolex, calling that he is lost and has no water or phone charge left or texting, whichever it was, I forget and his leaving with two men and going who knows where, etc. He seriously left he men's place and was going to set out on a ten mile walk?

It isn't adding up or at least just doesn't make sense to me. Drugs? Sex? To drink and party further with the men? Why do you go somewhere with someone? IS HE ON THE RUN from LE because he stole a Rolex?

I mean it's these other things that just are ODD, if it was just what it would seem on its face it would be one thing but that's not the all of it...

I of course pray he is found safe but this is a weird case.

Family of Jay Slater to use donated money for new search team from the Netherlands

The mother of missing teenager Jay Slater has said money raised to support their family will be used to bring in an expert Dutch search and rescue team.

Debbie Duncan broke the news on a GoFundMe page, which was setup just a few days after Jay, who's 19 and from Lancashire, went missing in a mountainous region of Tenerife.

The GoFundMe page set up by Jay's friend Lucy Law is now up to nearly £50,000.

In the statement, Debbie Duncan said: "Almost 4 weeks on and we are still no further in finding our beautiful boy. He was only 4 days into his holiday and his disappearance still remains a mystery.

"We are still here in Tenerife searching daily with the help of volunteers and local hiking groups. As you all know the Guardia Civil gave up the land search after 12 days.

"We have been actively working with search and rescue teams and we can now confirm that we have a team of experts flying in over the weekend from the Netherlands, who will carry on the search with their specialist dogs.

"We are only able to fund this with the generosity of all those who donated. The team are the Signi Zoekhondon and this has taken lots of planning to get them over so thank you so much for your kindness."

I know what to hope for in every case but I sure don't know what to think in all of them. This one is one of them.

You can't make adult children stay together or not vacation but I'd sure the heck encourage it and not fund any of it, or any part of their life, that is the control you have as a parent when young adults. You might feel like some mean parent but when something happens, you wish you'd had I'm sure.

This one, due to perhaps being in another country is pretty unclear as to what happened here. Of course as I always say I don't do FB, X and other SM like that so maybe more is known.

I'm hopeful he went missing voluntarily BUT there isn't really enough to indicate that. Hoping though.

So one of the guys he stayed with at the AirBnB was a drug dealer? See BBM(Bolded by me) in article below. The red part links to another article where he speaks. This is all just dodgy as heck.

Asked whether the investigation had moved on and police now had a clearer idea of what had happened to Jay, a spokesman for the Civil Guard said: "The investigation is ongoing and several lines of inquiry are being pursued."

On Monday, the search for Jay hit a tragic landmark, with the search passing three weeks to the day since he was last seen on June 17. The teenager was holidaying with friends Lucy Law, 18, and Brad Hargreaves, 19, and had been partying at the Papagayo nightclub in Playa de las Americas the night before he vanished.

He left the club with two British men, one named Ayub Qassim, 31, known by the nickname 'Johnny Vegas', and an unnamed second man, to head to their Airbnb rental near the remote village of Masca on the north of the island. Jay left the Airbnb on the Monday morning.

At around 8.30am, he called Lucy to say he was in the middle of nowhere, trying to get home with no water and 1 per cent on his phone battery. His last known location was in the Rural de Teno Park in the north of the Canary Island – which was about an 11-hour walk from his accommodation in Los Cristianos.

Mr Qassim, who was imprisoned nine years ago for orchestrating a scheme to inundate Wales with Class A drugs, said Jay 'came to the Airbnb alive and left the Airbnb alive'. Spanish police have deemed both men to be of no relevance to their missing person investigation.

Yesterday, Jay's dad Warren blasted two 'wild goose chases' as he widened his personal search for the missing teenager. Warren was joined by Jay's brother Zak in a gruelling search of Tenerife's rugged valleys to where the 19-year-old was last seen.

But he voiced frustration with the challenging landscape, saying it would take an army 10 years to search all of the mountainous terrain. He told how they had been on 'two wild goose chases' on Sunday to abandoned buildings where they hoped Jay could be.

Warren continued to voice his frustration at the local police investigation, calling for British cops to get involved and help the family. He said: "I’ve been through 80% of that valley, so we went further along.

"We’ve drove and we’ve walked down the path at the next village, up the mountain there’s a viewpoint that looks down, you can either follow the road, but we didn’t, we parked up and walked down.”

Speaking to Mail Online yesterday, Warren added: "We need to, as a full family, do a proper press conference and ask the British authorities to help. He’s a British citizen. Get Interpol involved.

“It’s just us. I haven’t got a team. We need a team to come over here and find out for us what the police are doing and what we need to do.

“Our hands are tied over here, we need experts. How long can you stay here for?

“It’ll take an army 10 years to cover all this. I’d employ a team of Gurkhas.”

I feel for the family and what I'm going to say probably wouldn't be liked by them.

But it seemed to me from the start it was about drugs or sex or something. I mean why would you go with strangers to God knows where. Now what you posted said they tried to inundate an area with drugs. And it is sometimes learned the hard way but when you or your child goes to another country, the same rules, laws and rights don't apply as to trying to get it investigated, etc. by your own authorities in your country.

This was clearly a trip to party and not blaming but his friend left him. Yes answers need to come and him to be found and the same investigation given that would be given to any missing person in the Canary Islands.

On top of that if a tourist destination and in this case was it music festival too, such don't want bad press. This applies to cruise ships, tropical vacation spots and so on, we've seen so many.

Like I said this is odd and what our just posted makes it even odder. So this was a British citizen that want to flood Wales with Class A drugs? And was imprisoned for it? Yet released? And nickname is Johnny Vegas? I mean this just gets weirder.

He needs to be looked for, he needs to be found, just like anyone. However, the activities and choices here weren't great unless of course someone drugged him while out but then too the friend should have stuck with him. That's not blame, it's just talking what seem to be the facts. You're not at home, you are out partying, etc.

Maybe it's the news but I feel there's more info put out on the Go Fund Me than the investigation and search for him, etc.

That could be simply because it's not our country and not picked up as much or easy to find but what you've posted has more info than anything I've seen.

I still kind of find all his contacts a bit odd and I guess if hotter than heck (is it and was it I suppose) you'd worry you had no water, your phone was about dead and you are now it is said 11 miles from where you're staying but that too to me sounds a bit odd. IS it THAT remote? I know absolutely nothing about the Canary Islands much less the geography and areas on them.

This entire thing is weird.

I don't mean I don't hope he is safe or that I don't feel for the family. I pray he's found safe and this is some hoax but it's been a long time and the men he left with sound pretty shady.

Drugs and to continue partying would be my guess as to why you'd go off with two men. Or drugged and lured, etc., taken advantage of.

Is drinking age 18 in the Islands? I know it is in many a tourist area and for a reason. Like Aruba. That's of course why it was an annual trip for a graduating class in the Holloway case, etc.

Here it is 21. Wasn't always but has been for a long time. If any state is still 18, I'd be surprised. I think even Vegas changed it and they'd be the last ones to want to do so.

I've said it before and will again, if your ADULT child wants to take a trip and especially out of country and even out of state, if you find a single part of their life, use that and say NO. Many come back safe and unharmed of course but we see too much of things like this. They are not mature and in big tourist/popular areas criminals are just waiting for such targets. Or even a "hick' that's older but naive. Etc. I've traveled enough to have seen it and know it. It's something you don't see or realize until you've been a few times and/or get older and notice more.

AGain this one is ODD.

I'm guessing they can say the men are clear and he wasn't with the men because he called someone or pinged somewhere after leaving there...? Can't recall and not a lot of time. Well I have a couple of hours but have to start moving and getting ready for work and down to a couple of hours is crunch time for my routine. Shower, something to eat, getting the work clothes ready, packing the bag, feeding the boys, etc. and I like it to not be too much of a rushed crunch and two hours is to me time to start moving and doing it all.

My kids have taken a few trips that I did nothing but worry about them, heck they still do and are fine but that's just me and a parent imo. One is married, the other works on the road, one would think I'd quit worrying and they aren't 19. I'm not judging so much as hoping other parents think about and see this, stop them from going if you can. Hindsight, not that anything bad happened here, you just realize as the years ago on even as a parent. My one daughter called me once from the Virgin Islands and it scared the living sh*t out of me. And then the call cut off. WHAT was I supposed to do? It all ended up fine but yes she and two friends were on a trip that what parent would want to deny them, just stressing to be safe, play safe, etc. Neither of mine have ever had a drug think Thank God and both are late 30s, one early 40s now. I worried about her and her friends going but there wasn't anything I could do. She worked, she was self sufficient and over 18.

Again our country is weird. Go to war at 18, have to support self, charged as an adult as you are one but you can't drink, smoke, etc. or buy such until 21.

I hope there ends up being a good result in this case. I hope it's like a "Carlee Russell" thing but seeming not to be. Or that woman in California, wow. Or that girl in Washington. Meaning a hoax. Because that results in them alive at least.

Yep kind of going on and wandering. Sorry. Don't get a lot of chance and back to the grind. I would however say can anyone say this one isn't a bit weird? It's really hard to get an opinion on although maybe SM tells more if anyone who knows him, the men, etc. is talking on such.

Confirmation in this BBC report. Very sad but at least the family can come home now.

What in the heck. I'm not going to buy any easy answer in this one, that's all I've got to say. An 'accident". Okay. And if this was where his phone's last location was and his clothes and possessions then shouldn't or would he have been found quickly when looking near the phones last location?

Also they say clothes and possessions. Were his clothes off? If not, did he have like his suitcase or whatever with him and was never going back to his hotel? Huh?

I'm gong to guess some of this is the first flush of news and not getting it 100 percent correct but I'll stick to saying what I said earlier. This one is ODD. Not a thing really adds up or just not enough fact to add anything up other than the weird guys he went off with.

It sure is odd. I would have thought they had already searched that last ping location but maybe it covered a large area.

I remember when Abby and Libby's relatives were trying to get the phones pinged the day they went missing but it didn't seem to work.
