‘No detail is too small’: Search expands for missing Aiken girl

A massive search involving local, state and federal law enforcement agencies continued Wednesday as authorities worked tirelessly to find 4-year-old Javeayah Harris, a little girl described by those who know her as smart, talkative and full of life.

Investigators say Javeayah disappeared from her family’s home near Hillsboro Street and Ridgecrest Road in Aiken around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

As the hours passed, the search only grew larger.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office has been joined by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the FBI and numerous other local and regional law enforcement agencies in an extensive effort to bring the child home safely. Search teams have continued following leads while combing neighborhoods, wooded areas and other locations where a small child could be hiding.

Authorities are urging residents throughout the area to carefully search their own property, including sheds, playhouses, vehicles, crawl spaces, wooded areas and anywhere a curious young child might hide.

Sheriff’s officials said they remain grateful for the cooperation of Javeayah’s family and the support shown by the community since she vanished.

“We are committed to bringing Javeayah home safe and will continue to follow up on all leads,” the sheriff’s office said. “No detail is too small.”
