Mother in custody as police investigate possible missing 11-year-old boy in Brownsville: sources

A disturbing investigation is underway in Brooklyn into a possibly missing 11-year-old boy who has never attended public school.

While the child's mother denies the boy is in her apartment located at 614 Howard Ave. in Brownsville, the NYPD says a K-9 cadaver dog got a hit on the refrigerator for human blood.

Investigators are now waiting for a search warrant to more thoroughly examine the home.

Officials say that when ACS was initially called to the apartment on reports of child abuse, they say the mother denied even having a child. However, ACS has recovered a birth certificate with the woman as the listed mother.

"The safety and well-being of New York City's children is our top priority. As soon as this family came to our attention, we launched an investigation with the NYPD," an ACS spokesperson said.

On Wednesday, the agency called police to help with a welfare check.

Jacob was no where to be found.

According to law enforcement sources, who spoke to neighbors, they say it appears that the child, who has autism, has been missing for several "weeks."

Neighbors say they have rarely ever seen the boy.

There's no record of him attending public schools and there's no record of him anywhere.

A man said he had not seen the boy in years but remembers him having autism.

Another neighbor said he heard the mother yell.

"Yelling, it seemed like she was talking to somebody," he said.

"He's lived here all his life - my boyfriend - and he said he's only seen the kid a couple of times," neighbor Lay Givens said.

They say police have taken the 50-year-old mother into custody.

When conducting their search, they also discovered there was no electricity in the apartment.

"It's disturbing that people don't take care of their kids or harm them if that's the case," another neighbor David Alcantara said.

Police searching for Brooklyn boy, 11, missing for three weeks: sources

Police are searching for an 11-year-old autistic Brooklyn boy who has been missing for around three weeks after receiving a tip about his disappearance this week, according to sources.

The Administration for Children’s Services called the NYPD on Wednesday to conduct a wellness check at the boy’s Brownsville home on Howard Avenue, but the child was not in the apartment, police said Friday.

Officers found the boy’s mom in the unkempt apartment and took her to the hospital for evaluation, sources said. The mom has not been charged.

The home has been sealed off as a crime scene while authorities work to determine if there is anything suspicious about the boy’s disappearance, sources said.

A spokesperson for ACS could not immediately say if there was a history of abuse in the home or why they alerted the police.

“The safety and well-being of New York City’s children is our top priority. As soon as this family came to our attention, we launched an investigation with the NYPD,” an ACS spokesperson said in a statement.

Absolutely sickening. Poor child. 😪 Even denies he existed.

Search continues for missing 11-year-old boy in Brownsville, Brooklyn; mother in custody

The search continues on Friday for a missing 11-year-old boy in Brooklyn whose disappearance has left neighbors concerned and his mother in custody.

Video captures police scouring the area overnight near the apartment building on Howard Avenue in Brownsville where 11-year-old Jacob Pritchette lived.

Investigators executed a search warrant at the building, but there were no signs of the boy in the apartment, the backyard or the dumpsters behind the building.

According to the NYPD, someone called ACS on Wednesday to conduct a wellness check on Pritchette, who has autism.

Once officers arrived, they searched the home but did not find the boy. Officials, however, determined there was no electricity in the apartment while an NYPD K-9 cadaver dog got a hit on the refrigerator for human blood.

Police later took a 50-year-old woman believed to be his mother into custody. At the time, ACS recovered a birth certificate with the woman as the listed mother. The woman had initially denied being the child's mother.

Sources say the boy has never attended public school, while neighbors tells Eyewitness News they haven't seen him in weeks.

"I would always see a little boy in the window playing with his toys by himself making noise, and since all of this has taken place, I realized to myself like, the boy is not in the window no more. I haven't seen him like all summer," said Crystal Burrell, a neighbor. "All summer, he has not been in the window, so it's a sad situation."

As of Friday morning, Prichette's mother was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

So ALL summer he's not been seen?!!?

Denied having a child, no public school record and LE actually had to secure a birth certificate, that may be a new one... Soust nds like to date she's been uncooperative.

Most neighbors talk like they had only seen him rarely or a handful of times but the one woman always saw him in the window playing until the beginning of summer it sounds like, once she realized she hadn't seen him recently.

Cadaver dog hit on the frig. I imagine it's not running with no electricity.

Getting a warrant to search further.

I'd never recall the case but I recall I believe in some part of NY a woman keep a dead child in the closet for years. I'd speculate that if no power, she also has no private mode of transport so to dispose of him, it would likely be at the complex, in her apartment, the dumpster, etc.

Since he seemed no to exist for the most part on paper, in school, etc. it is fortunate someone called for a welfare check, or there was someone to do so. One would think she would have been receiving some help from the county, etc...

Mental health issues are mentioned however I'd say she knows enough to be uncooperative, to lie about his existence or that she had a child and so on.

I'd say there's little hope he is alive. If he was with a relative or his father or some such, one would think she'd say so plus there was that cadaver dog hit.

Sad.

Just thinking about Jacob. Sad that there are seemingly no photos. Never went to school. Non-verbal. Wonder if he even ever left the apartment.
Hoping they're able to find something to track down what happened to him.

Have they said if the mom worked or not? If not, was she drawing benefits for him, too? I feel so bad for him.

So they have more of an idea of when he was last seen? Otherwise, they would just be getting lucky to guess the right spot to search.

NYPD releases rendering of missing Brooklyn child mom still denies exists

NYPD detectives on Friday released a computer-generated image of what they believe an autistic 11-year-old Brooklyn boy who has been missing for weeks may look like while the child’s mother continues to claim her son never existed, officials said.

Police believe Jacob Pritchett went missing sometime in mid-August, but authorities weren’t alerted to his disappearance until late September.

When they learned that the child hadn’t been seen at his apartment on Howard Ave. in Brownsville, they went to the child’s mother, who bizarrely told cops and the city’s Administration for Children’s Services that she never had a child.

There was no evidence of a child living in the home when she allowed police to search the place, even though building administrators had a copy of Jacob’s birth certificate and neighbors had repeatedly seen the child from the window.

A family court judge has ordered the mom held at a hospital, where she is undergoing psychiatric testing and care, as cops continue to search for the boy.

Weeks later, the mother still won’t acknowledge her son’s existence and at one point cited her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination as the reason for her refusal to cooperate, a police source with knowledge of the case said.

On Friday, cops released a computer-generated image of Jacob “to predict what the missing (child) would look like today.”

Cops were never able to locate a photo of Jacob and on Oct. 4 released a composite sketch of what the child looks like.

“That’s all we have at this time,” a police spokesman said at the time. “What we have, we put out.”

ACS began investigating Jacob’s disappearance after a tipster reached out through a state hotline with concern for the child’s welfare, police sources told the Daily News.

Agency investigators visited the Brownsville apartment belonging to the child’s mother on Sept. 25, but were unable to gain access and called for police assistance. When officers with the NYPD arrived at the mother’s home, she allowed them entry to her apartment, only to deny being the child’s mother.

The mother was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

ACS agents returned to Pritchett’s apartment with police and investigators to search the building as well as nearby dumpsters — even recruiting NYPD K-9 police dogs to help in the hunt.

The K-9 dogs got a hit on a refrigerator inside the apartment, as well as the dumpsters out back, cops said.

Residents said they had smelled a foul odor coming from the garbage bins in the back of the building at around the time Jacob went missing, although building trash had been collected there for several weeks over the summer. But when cops learned of Jacob’s disappearance, the trash had already been collected, officials said.

Earlier this month cops began digging through the High Acres Landfill in Parinton, NY, which is about 14 miles east of Rochester, and is a dumping site for the refuse hauled out of the apartment complex where Pritchett lived.

An exhaustive search there by the NYPD and state police turned up nothing, a police source with knowledge of the case said.

“We’re still treating this case as a missing person, so we’re doing everything we can to put out images of the boy in case he’s seen,” the police source said.

Neighbors told responding officers they hadn’t seen the child for six to eight weeks, police said.

“We’d be chilling outside, and you’d see the boy in the window,” said neighbor Evelyn Rolon, 49. “He had a little car he played with. He never came out. He didn’t go to school.”

Rolon said she was shocked to learn the boy’s age, saying he appeared younger by his size.

“He was 11? He looked 7 or 8,” she said, adding about the missing child: “It’s horrible.”

Cops are asking anyone with information regarding Jacob’s whereabouts to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Police released a computer-generated image of Jacob Pritchett, and how they they believe the 11-year-old may look now, after being missing for weeks in Brooklyn. Meanwhile, his mother continues to claim the child never existed. (NYPD)

Brooklyn mom held at Rikers as search for missing boy,11, continues: sources

The mother of an 11-year-old Brooklyn boy who has been missing for about two months is being held at Rikers Island, while cops continue to search for the child, police sources said Monday.

The 50-year-old woman is being held on a Brooklyn Family Court warrant for failure to produce the child, sources said. The boy, Jacob Pritchett, is believed to have gone missing sometime in September.

I was just going to say the same--that we are seeing more of the failure to produce being used in cases and I'm very happy to see that.

I always wonder when a child is older as to the why I guess. What I mean is the parent has had the child for 11 years here (I'm assuming she always had him) and apparently managed with the child for all those years before so why after all that time do they do this?
