Texas father still looking for answers, justice in 2010 death of Hailey Dunn

The disappearance of 13-year-old middle school student Hailey Dunn in Colorado City hits its nine-year anniversary this month with her father, Clint Dunn, still looking for answers.

"I feel like I'm left in the darkness because law enforcement is not communicating with me at all," said Clint Dunn, speaking via telephone this week. "... This needs to move forward."

Hailey's death remains unsolved, though her remains were found in 2013 in Scurry County.

Investigators named Shawn Adkins, the live-in boyfriend of Hailey's mother, Billie Jean Dunn, at the time of the teen's disappearance, the primary person of interest, according to Reporter-News archives. He has not been charged with a crime in the case.

Clint Dunn said Thursday that law enforcement officials had indicated to him that when a body was found, an arrest would be made.

"I want to know why that hasn't happened and who do I need to get in here to try to help," he said.

Clint Dunn has secured a private investigator, he said, and as tips are received, they are passed on to authorities.

But return replies are few, if any, he said.

"We don't even know who's got the case right now," he said. "... We've called everybody — the FBI, the Texas Rangers, (an investigator) that was over the case for so long in Scurry County. ... I just want to know why they haven't brought this to trial yet. Why hasn't there been a court date?"

I've been looking into this case and I'm very surprised that Atkins was arrested since it appears to me that evidence actually points away from him being involved.
And I'm surprised there would be an arrest, period, before testing of evidence collected.
Anyway, I think the best evidence in the case (I'm aware of, of course) comes from scent dog indications, in this particular instance, bloodhounds.
Btw, the most outstanding scent dog I know of was a bloodhound.

Glad to see you. I was beginning to worry, hadn't seen you around in a bit!

Texas Rangers Cold Case Unit officially investigating Hailey Dunn murder

It’s been a little more than 14 years since the last time anyone saw then-13-year-old Hailey Dunn, and law enforcement is still trying to find her killer.

Hailey’s body was found in March 2013, and in 2021, the boyfriend of Hailey’s mom at the time of her disappearance, Shawn Adkins, was arrested and charged with Hailey’s murder.

The charges against Adkins were dropped in June 2023, with court documents stating a further investigation was needed. Erica Morse, a private investigator working on the case at the time, had this to say following Adkins’s release.

“Why in the world has this happened?” Morse said. “Why is Shawn out, and what are we going to do moving forward to close this case?”

On Friday, Hailey’s family posted a significant update on the Who Killed Hailey Dunn Facebook page. The Texas Rangers Cold Case Unit is now officially handling Hailey’s case.

KCBD also reached out to Erica and Hailey’s father, Clint, for comment. Clint says the Texas Rangers are dedicated to putting Hailey’s killer behind bars and people should be outraged that this case still hasn’t been resolved.

Erica says she does not believe there’s ever been any anonymity involved in Hailey’s case, so if anybody has information and can bring that information forward, now is the time to do it.

Cross Examined: Father looks back on Hailey Dunn’s disappearance, childhood 15 years later

On this episode of Cross Examined. . . hosts Victor Sotelo, Adam Singleton, and Erica Garner interview Clint Dunn as the 15-year anniversary of his daughter Hailey Dunn’s disappearance from her home in Colorado City approaches.

Hailey’s remains were found at Lake JB Thomas in 2013, and since then, an ongoing murder investigation has been underway, with the then-boyfriend of Hailey’s mother, Billie Dunn, Shawn Adkins, remaining the only publicly named suspect in Hailey’s disappearance and death.

Shawn was arrested and charged with Hailey’s murder in 2021, then released from jail after his charges were dropped in 2023.

Clint recalls what Hailey was like as a child, remembering her as gifted both physically and academically.

He also talks about his relationship with Billie and Shawn and how their family dynamic worked, sharing custody of Hailey while only living across a small field from each other, and Clint also describes his last Christmas with Hailey, shared only a couple of days before she went missing.

Clint says he never suspected Shawn of being involved in Hailey’s disappearance when she first went missing, but as the investigation went on, he started to realize Shawn’s version of events didn’t necessarily make sense.

This is only part 1 of Clint’s interview – during Part 2, he will be joined by private investigator Erica Morse. Together, the two have put in years’ worth of work investigating hundreds of leads in Hailey’s murder.

Justice sought 15 years after Hailey Dunn’s disappearance

December 27 marks the 15th anniversary of the original disappearance of 13-year-old cheerleader Hailey Dunn. Many agencies have been involved in investigating hundreds of leads that ultimately yielded no results.

Fifteen years later, the calls for justice regarding her death continue to be emphasized. The Facebook page titled “Who Killed Hailey Dunn” made a post commemorating the 15th anniversary of her disappearance. The post stated, “Today marks 15 years since Clint Dunn’s nightmare began—fifteen years filled with lies, distractions and retaliation directed at a father fighting for truth and justice for his little girl.”

"Gifted physically" sure sounds like predator speak.

Was there ever a Part 2?

The article below includes info from the friend and Hailey's last text to her that afternoon.
At 2:16pm, Hailey had asked the friend what she was doing and the friend said she hadn't had the chance to respond.

I think I should point out that the 2:16pm text from Hailey wasn't her last. To whom wasn't revealed but there was another text at 2:27pm.
Also, there was an incoming call to Hailey at 2:57pm. (All of this info comes from the state's motion to dismiss document.)

Not necessarily "the" predator , but nobody at all should be describing an underage child that way at all. Too creepy!
Well you did say predator speak.

I agree it isn't a typical thing to sy but it also could be talented athletically and when read in context with what he else he said about her, its quite possible that is what was meant.

Because it IS predator speak when an adult make is describing a 13 year old girl as such.
Whatever, I gave an example of another possible reason for it.

And I was simply clarifying in case you thought it was the perp that said that PLUS didn't want anyone ever reading here thinking the perp said it.

I don't know but I'm pretty certain you thought the perp said it.

So just clarifying that wasn't the case.

I'm certainly not going to waste part of a day arguing about it as there is no argument.
