Gayle McCaffrey missing 2014 - Husband, Bob, now arrested charged with murder, kidnapping, burglary in 1990 Lisa McBride case (3 Viewers)

Been after this guy since his wife went missing. His excuses were flimsy and her goodbye note was proven false.

I am loving this. He surely killed (IMO) Gayle in 2014 and dropped off her body somewhere in his drive across the state.

Robert William McCaffrey Jr., 54, was taken into custody Friday in Manteo, North Carolina, by a multistate task force.

McCaffrey is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree burglary in the killing of 27-year-old Lisa Marie McBride, whose remains were discovered in Vernon Township, New Jersey, in 1990, according to authorities.

I was super confused how these cases were related. This helped clear it up for me.

Man forced to submit DNA after his wife disappeared. Now it’s connected him to another murder.

DNA evidence found on a headboard in the home of a woman who went missing nearly 36 years ago in Sussex County has linked a North Carolina man to her death, authorities said in court documents.

Robert William McCaffrey Jr., 54, of Manteo, North Carolina, is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree burglary in the death of Lisa McBride, who went missing from her Vernon Township home in 1990.

It’s not the first time McCaffrey’s faced murder charges. He was charged with his missing wife’s murder in 2018 but a jury did not indict him. Instead, he was later convicted on obstruction charges in his wife’s disappearance and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The break in McBride’s case comes after advances in DNA testing and after McCaffrey was ordered to submit a sample as part of his wife’s case.

A multi-state task force arrested McCaffrey in North Carolina about 8 a.m. on April 10. He was extradited to New Jersey this past weekend.

McCaffrey lived in Sussex County in the 1990s and worked in North Jersey as a “social and employment associate,” according to an affidavit of probable cause.

A witness whose name is redacted from police reports told detectives that McCaffrey admitted in 1995 that he killed McBride because “she refused to go out with him.”

McCaffrey had no other ties to McBride, according to the affidavit.

At the time, the DNA was not suitable for extensive testing.

As technology improved, detectives in 2022 had McBride’s body exhumed and were able to determine the female DNA matched her profile.

The male DNA was then entered into a national database and linked to McCaffrey, who had been ordered to provide a sample after being convicted of obstruction in 2019 in relation to his wife’s disappearance, according to the affidavit.

Marjorie “Gayle” McCaffrey, who was 36 at the time, went missing in March 2012 and although her body has not been found, she was declared legally dead in 2018, according to published reports.

McCaffrey was released from prison in 2023.

The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office said McCaffrey was extradited to New Jersey over the weekend and expected to be arraigned Monday morning.

A detention hearing will be held next week, the prosecutor’s office said.
