A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

Oh! I didn’t think this would go, but it did! And I’m glad. I hope it sent a message to other family members who hide the wrongdoings of their loved ones. They need to step up to the plate and do the right thing. Might cost them a pretty penny if they don’t.

In his autobiography Malcolm X talks about realizing that right is right after his brother was arrested for something, I forget what it was.

A Florida judge approved a request to add Brian Laundrie's former attorney Steve Bertolino to a lawsuit against his parents Tuesday.

Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt, Gabby's parents, originally filed the lawsuit against Christopher and Roberta Laundrie earlier this year, accusing the couple of knowing that their son murdered Gabby and being aware of the location of her remains but refusing to speak.

The lawsuit also alleges that the parents were attempting to arrange a way for their son to flee the country.

A key aspect at the heart of the lawsuit is a Sept. 14, 2021, statement that Bertolino shared with the media on behalf of the Laundrie parents.

Pat Reilly, the lawyer for Petito and Schmidt, has alleged the statement is "outrageous," and the lawsuit alleges that at the time it was made, the Laundries and their lawyer were aware that their son had killed Petito.

Judge Danielle Brewer granted the motion for leave to amend the lawsuit for a second time – allowing the Petito-Schmidt team to add Bertolino to the suit.

"The decision was not unexpected," he told Fox News Digital after the hearing. "This incident, like all others, will work out in the end. One way or the other."

Editor’s note • This story includes a graphic image of a woman documenting what she later told police was a domestic assault. The timestamp on the photo is important.

Gabby Petito’s phone shows that she took the selfie at 4:37 p.m. on Aug. 12, 2021. Two minutes later, a bystander called 911 to say that they had just witnessed Petito’s boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, slapping Petito in a parking lot in Moab.

Police never located that caller; they instead found a man who said he thought Petito struck Laundrie.

But based on the timing, Petito appears to have taken the picture to document her injury from the slap the 911 caller described. In the image, she is sweating and crying in the back of the van the couple was traveling the country in. And the camera captures a long cut under her left eye, with blood smeared across her cheek and onto her forehead — consistent with the blow she would describe to police, when they later arrived at 4:45 p.m. and pulled the couple over.
