Faye Swetlik remembered around the world, six months after death

It was a story that rocked the nation about a little girl from Cayce.

Faye Swetlik, 6, vanished from her home in the Church Hill Heights neighborhood in Cayce on February 10 and was found dead three days later.

Now at the six months mark, her memory is touching lives across the world.

Julie Vollnogle started a Facebook page called "Rocks for Faye" in honor of the little girl.

Vollnogle knew Faye loved art and collecting rocks, so she had an idea. She started the page encouraging people to paint rocks in Faye's memory and share them with the community.

The rocks traveled throughout the midlands shortly after Faye's death. Six months later, Faye's memory is touching lives across the world.

This case is still so heartbreaking. They were soooo close. They shut down that neighborhood, they were in his house, they did find her in no time for such a case but too late... I feel LE went all out doing everything they could and quickly in this one.

New information related to kidnapping, murder of 6-year-old Faye Swetlik to be released

Investigators are set to release new information in the case of 6-year-old Faye Marie Swetlik’s kidnapping and murder.

Her neighbor, 30-year-old Coty Taylor, was found dead the same day. Police said at the time that Taylor killed Faye, and that he was the only one involved in her death.

The motive remains unclear.

Friday, July 2, 2021, the Cayce Department of Public Safety, which is the lead investigating agency of Faye’s death, said it will release new information, including video and photo evidence.

A news conference that was scheduled for Friday to release information requested through the Freedom of Information Act in the Faye Swetlik kidnapping and murder case has been canceled.

The Cayce Department of Public Safety released the following statement:

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) press announcement for local members of the media with the Cayce Department of Public Safety Director, Byron Snellgrove, has been canceled. The previous invitation, information and guidelines for the FOIA press announcement were disregarded by some outlets and inaccurate information was reported on June 28 and June 29. All members of the media that submitted a FOIA request will have their responses mailed on Friday. The questions you each submitted this week will also be answered in the FOIA responses. We intend for that to conclude our communication on this case. The family of Faye Swetlik requests that you respect their privacy, honor her memory, and not contact them. Thank you for the compassion and professionalism you showed in reporting this case.
Investigators with the Cayce Department of Public Safety were supposed to release photos and videos in connection to Faye Swetlik's kidnapping and murder investigation that was requested by media outlets, including WACH FOX News, through the Freedom of Information Act.

Faye Swetlik’s killer masked smells in home, acted strangely as new case details revealed

The man who killed 6-year-old Faye Swetlik stashed her body in his Cayce apartment for two full days before burying her in a shallow grave, local police said in a newly issued report.

The report details, for the first time, 30-year-old Coty Taylor’s erratic behavior in the three days between the time he strangled Faye on Feb. 10, 2020, and his own suicide on Feb. 13.

New revelations include that Taylor likely killed Faye three hours after her mother called police to report she was missing. In the midst of the search, Taylor traveled to a garden center to buy potting soil like the material found covering her shallow grave near his apartment. And Taylor’s DNA was found in scrapings taken from Faye’s fingernails.

Cayce Public Safety Director Byron Snellgrove said the report’s release is intended to bring closure to Faye’s death. He said his department would not make any further statements or answer any more questions about the case.
