IN DIAMOND BYNUM & KING WALKER: Missing from Gary, IN - 25 July 2015 - Age 21 & 2

King and his mentally disabled aunt, Diamond Bynum, disappeared from Gary, Indiana on July 25, 2015. Bynum lived with her father and stepmother; King lived with his mother and visited his grandparents and aunt every weekend.

They were last seen at Bynum's home in the 500 block of Matthews Street at approximately 10:20 a.m., when Bynum's stepmother took a nap. When she woke up at 11:00 a.m., her daughter and grandson were gone. It's believed they walked away from the residence, possibly to go to a local store.

Bynum's family had moved to Gary from Hammond, Indiana in February 2015 and Bynum was still unfamiliar with the area; it's possible she and King became lost. Her family stated it's uncharacteristic of her to go more than a few blocks from home.

There were reported sightings of the pair in Gary, Hammond and Chicago after their disappearances, but none have been confirmed. Their family hopes they're still alive. Their cases remain unsolved.

I think something just sounds odd about the circumstances of their disappearance. They just left the house and were not seen because the occupants were asleep?

From the post upthread -

I remember the day this hit the news this case has always stuck out to me I just wish I had an inkling of what happened

Same here. Part of me would say no one saw them leave or after they left but wasn't there a McDonald's sighting or something? Memory is hazy. Of course eyewitness if that's all it was doesn't mean much.

Seems an odd time of the day to be tired and taking a nap.

No inkling here either but nothing cleared for me either....

Ten years later, family still searches for Diamond Bynum and King Walker

When Lashann Walker thinks about the last 10 years, the only way she can describe it is heartbreaking.

For 10 years, Walker and her other family members have searched for Diamond Bynum and King Walker — her daughter and nephew who went missing in Gary.

“I try to put it into words, and it’s hard,” Walker said. “It’s a pain that lies in my heart every second and every day. I wake up every morning with them on my mind, and I go to sleep with them on my mind.”

Since the disappearance, Walker said she and other family members have searched for them, and there are still no leads on what happened.

“Someone out there knows what happened,” Walker said. “If you know anything, please come forward.”

A Gary Police Department officer was unable to speak about Bynum and King Walker’s case this week. Gary spokesperson Erika Blackwell sent a statement on behalf of the department, saying they recognize the disappearance with “deep respect and unwavering commitment.”

“The case remains open and active,” the statement said. “Our investigators continue to pursue every lead, re-examine evidence, and work closely with local, state, and federal partners in the ongoing search for answers. We recognize the profound and lasting impact this tragedy has had on Diamond and King’s family. Their strength and resilience continue to inspire our commitment to uncovering the truth.”

Walker expressed frustration with the Gary Police Department on this case and asked them to cooperate more with her family. As of Wednesday, she had not heard anything from police about Bynum and King Walker’s case.

“I know they have a lot of cases and a lot they’re dealing with, but I feel like Diamond and King have been swept under the rug,” Walker said. “It feels like they don’t matter anymore, and I don’t know what else to do to make them matter.”

There are thousands of abandoned homes/businesses in Gary. Entire neighborhoods. I hate to say the following, but here goes:

If they are not living, their remains could be concealed anywhere in one of those abandoned buildings. Since Diamond apparently was disabled, she may have been receiving monthly government financial assistance. Have the police checked to see what, if any activity has been on her bank account or whatever since her disappearance? Could a family friend or other relative come and picked them up and taken them elsewhere to live? This is so sad.

I would like to know when the last time somebody other than those that she lived with saw them last. Stepmom "took a nap", but where was dad?
yeah like a public recount of everyone's whereabouts whether the cops could vet or not then if they could vet is everybody where they were supposed to be.... i think it was grandma not step mom that was home and took a nap

They should have been direct deposited or added to benefit card. They haven't cut actual ss checks for most recepients since before they disappeared. They are scheduled to totally eliminate actual checks this year. They basically demanded my parents do it was back about 25 years ago.
I wasn't thinking out the deposits as much as I was the withdrawals. Was anything withdrawn after they went missing and if so by whom and what cities?

Could comment on a few things here. May do so letter. On about day 4 of constant he77, far worse than the already daily norm. So only managing both time wise and pain to comment a bit or even read.

SS will only be paid into a bank account and it goes to folllow that is any kind of SS even disability. I had a very long conversation with an agent about a year ago. I asked tons of things I did know about as to timing income that could be earned and a whole lot more. They will NOT mail a check, no ifs, ands or buts. I believe that account also has to tie to the physical address of someone named/approved.

So if anyone is doing anything fradulent, well they have access or he is alive and gave/gives it, etc. It's a good thought and it could maybe be done some way like that but overall would not be easy to do.

Chicago-area mothers of missing children mark Mother’s Day with pleas for answers

On Mother’s Day, Chicago-area mothers of missing children gathered for support and to raise awareness, urging the public to come forward with information about their loved ones’ cases.

Some mothers of missing children in the Chicago area were brought together and given gifts on Mother's Day.

They continue to search and bring attention to the cases of their children who have not been found.

A nonprofit called The Invisible Man NFP gave them balloons, roses and a shopping spree, as well as held a press conference.

The women there included the mother of postal worker Kierra Coles, who has been missing for eight years, the mother of Diamond Bynum, who disappeared with her nephew King Walker from Gary, Ind. and has been missing for 11 years, and the mother of Diamond and Tionda Bradley, who have been missing for 25 years.

"I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I can't explain how this feels to go another Mother's Day, which gave me an opportunity to be a mother. To have a daughter missing and a grandson — my daughter's only son missing. Imagine how this makes her feel. Her first child missing for over 10 years," LaShann Walker, mother of Diamond and aunt of King, said.

The mothers are begging the public to help — because in all cases, they say someone knows something.
