Three missing girls in Wenatchee found dead, father still missing

Three missing girls in the Wenatchee area were found dead, according to the Wenatchee Police Department.

According to the police department, police responded to reports of a civil complaint when the mom of three young girls reported that her daughters did not return after a planned visitation with their father.

Police said Decker was believed to be living out of a white 2017 GMC Sierra pickup, which was last seen heading west on Highway 2 from Wenatchee on May 30.

WSP was contacted Friday night for an Amber Alert request, but Wenatchee Police said it did not meet the required criteria, and an Endangered Missing Person Alert was issued.

Law enforcement eventually found Decker's car unoccupied near the Rock Island Campground.

Other officers searched the immediate area and found the bodies of the three missing girls.

Decker is wanted for three counts of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping. Police do not know if Decker is currently armed, but he may still pose a significant risk, according to police.

Part of his research should have told him you need an id to enter Canada.
He's military and a survivalist, he may well not be planning to go in on an established entry. May of our illegals on the southern border do not come in through established crossings. They come through scrub and river. Just a thought.

He may well have a passport with him also no? How would we know? But they'll have it flagged as US officials should be telling them I'd imagine.

I suppose it's possible that he may have some falsified documents or ID.
If he's trying to cross using the PCT he's gonna have a hard time as well. They stopped allowing crossings there earlier this year and the area is heavily monitored.
He's going to have to find a different, more remote crossing point. If that is indeed his goal.
I think with his skill set he may try to go through not an established crossing. The borders will be and should be flagged, they will be likely watching for him.

This is interesting and telling.

Wants me to log in. Most times I can just hit an X link and see it. Is what can be seen the main gist of it?

Days ago it sounded as if they'd been apart for years. Makes it doubtful to me she'd have an interest in him moving in. He's trying to use people imo. I mean you don't just ask to move in, you'd see if you would work out first and doubtful she even had an interest in such.

Some kind of different posts here about how they got along. She offered to take the dog supposedly, she may have well wanted him to do well for the girls. It's hard when you care about your kids not to want their other parent to be good to them and functional. Unfortunately one can't do that with all. Imo. Didn't work here quite clearly.

Anyhow if you could share more of what it says, would be appreciated.

Try this one.

this is getting wild...... sad all around.... we gotta take better care of our veterans so things like this..... a horrendous and dangerous situation do not happen!!!

Thank you. I suspected she'd likely be resistant to reconciling or letting him move in. Him wantint to reconcile with his brher may be good but may all be desperation for a place to live. Boss telling her he seemed on a brink seems notable although not sure why she'd be at his work. I still can't see all but this gives me more of a gist of it--thank you for putting up more of it.

I get a picture of a mom who wanted a functional dad for her kids. She cares about people probably always but did not want him as a partner of any kind any longer and she is going to draw the line there. He may have been contacting people like the brother over real feelings of remorse or just because he was desperate for a place to live and such and who knows what bridges he had burned there, or with anyone.

Interesting that he had a job. So then why couldn't he get on his feet, even if he had to take just a room somewhere? Child support taken out of check, taxes, who knows? Any drug issues...

Just talking it out. No excuses for what he did and now he seems to be on the run trying to save his own arse and planned on it maybe even. I consider him scum overall. Still interested in background though and recent events.

I forgot to say in other posts that I give LE credit here, they have told people to keep their doors locked and be vigilant, in many cases they say they don't believe the public to be at risk. Not here. I think they have reason to believe he is alive and on the run.

Try this one.

Thank you for that. I could read that one. So he tried his brother and father and she knew about it. I'm getting the impression she cared on a human level and so the girls had their father and relatives but no interest of course in getting back with him. Workplace bullying is unfortunate and talking with a pastor for hours a day strikes me a bit odd, what was the pastor advising him?

I don't have a bit of sympathy for him with what he did. I am still curious at least for the moment as to the dynamics here and such. As far as I'm concerned they can shoot him on sight of him if need be. He is a clear danger.

Do we know if he was getting help through them? We know he was staying at the armory and such. Maybe he resisted help or what he should be doing. I don't know but yes, this is horrendous, this poor little girls.

Icicle Creek area near Leavenworth back open as search for Travis Decker continues

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Forest Service reopened the Icicle Creek area near Leavenworth on Sunday, according to a post from the sheriff’s office.

The U.S. Forest Service also announced that overnight permits for the Enchantment area will resume on Monday, June 9th.

Officials have determined that there is no remaining credible threat in the area as the search for Decker stretches into day 9.

"Authorities are still searching for the suspect, and we encourage visitors to the forest to remain alert. Please do not attempt to approach or make contact with the suspect. If you see, or believe you have seen, him please call 911 immediately," the U.S. Forest Service - Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest wrote in a Facebook post.

Why wasn’t an Amber Alert issued? Attorney calls system ‘broken’ after Wenatchee murders

As the manhunt for Travis Decker, the man accused of kidnapping and killing his three young daughters near Leavenworth, stretches into Day 10, the girls’ mother’s attorney stated an Amber Alert should have been issued by Washington State Patrol (WSP), and that the way the Amber Alert system currently operates is broken.

“Yes, the Amber Alert system is broken,” Arianna Cozart, the attorney for Whitney Decker, the girls’ mother, said, according to KOMO News. “It needs to be fixed. We’re working on that.”

When Decker failed to return his daughters to their mother on May 30, police were notified, but no Amber Alert was issued. Instead, WSP issued an Endangered Missing Persons Alert, canceling it approximately 12 hours before the public was notified that the girls’ remains were found. The bodies of the three sisters were found around 100 yards away down an embankment in a campground near Leavenworth.

According to investigators who responded to the scene, several zip ties and plastic bags were found scattered throughout the area. The children are believed to have died from suffocation.

WSP stated that the case of the Wenatchee girls did not meet Amber Alert requirements, as Travis Decker had no history of violence with his daughters and no evidence of abduction was found when they were reported missing.

“We all wish we could go back in time, but we can’t,” WSP stated, according to KOMO News. “We have a system, we have thresholds set, they’re through 50 states, it’s a success, but in this case, whatever alert we had did not work.”

An Amber alert is only used for those under the age of 18 who are feared to have been abducted. WSP uses this alert when the agency believes a child is in danger of serious bodily harm or death. An Endangered Missing Persons Alert is much broader in its scope, used for adults who have gone missing or are feared to have been abducted. These alerts can still be used for children, including children who may be in danger because of a custody dispute, or children who become lost and may have a disability that puts them in danger.

The biggest difference between the two alerts is that an Amber Alert issues automatic push notifications to people’s phones, whereas an Endangered Missing Persons Alert does not.

“With the training and skill that he has and used…that should be an automatic Amber Alert,” Cozart said, according to KOMO News.

From last night:

From Governor Bob Ferguson: Tonight, I am tapping emergency funds and ordering Washington National Guard resources to support the search for Travis Decker, who is suspected of killing his three daughters. At the request of the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, we will be providing helicopter transportation for law enforcement as they search in remote areas.

As a parent, my heart goes out to Paityn, Evelyn and Olivia’s mom, Whitney, and all those who love them. The brutal murder of these young children has shocked our state. I’m committed to supporting law enforcement as they seek justice for Paityn, Evelyn and Olivia.

I want to remind Washingtonians to be aware of safety directives from law enforcement as the search continues. If you live in the area, keep your doors and windows locked. Avoid closed areas, which currently include the Enchantments and the Icicle River area. If you see Travis Decker, do not approach – call 911. Anyone with information should contact Chelan County Sheriff's Office.

In no way do I disagree with the mother here. There should have been an Amber Alert. He failed to return the girls, he had issues, you name it, they knew of a vehicle, it shoulh have went out with that push notification to all. Imo this Alert was never meant to be changed in the ways it has been. And it's untrue all 50 states follow the same because not long ago, ours was able to send one out and not follow what some do in other states to get one issued.

Would it have saved them? Who knows and we will never know. But everyone's phone at that campground would have been getting an alert, etc.

[Sigh and outrage] Why can't anything be done in this world that is just smart and for the population??

One of the hardest things to learn in life if you are a do gooder and believe you have to do this and that for one and all is that no, you do not. It doesn't make you less of a Christian, a bad person, or a cold person, to watch out for yourself and your own. At least that's what i've come to but it takes some time at times.

In a case like this, I'd have to guess (no way to be sure) like many she just wanted him to be well for her kids, she clearly had no interest in him but maybe basic human caring.

I think there are cases where a parent should never see their children if they are not fixing things or fixed them first, but it isnt all that common to deny all visitation, etc.

This is a subject that could be talked of to no end so I'll leave it at that.

And now he is on the loose on top of it.

Search for Travis Decker: Authorities identify 'new details, new search areas' in WA

The Chelan County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) delivered an update Monday on the manhunt for Washington triple-murder suspect Travis Decker, uncovering new details at the crime scene and expanding search areas.

"Our investigators have begun to receive more analysis information back from evidence found at the crime scene," the CCSO said in a press release Monday. "While this does assist in the investigation and later prosecution, it also creates more questions and information for investigators to continue to pursue."

At around 6 p.m. on Sunday, command of search operations was handed over to federal authorities.

The department said it had reached a point where local authorities needed time for rest and recuperation before rejoining the search and capture of the suspect. CCSO command staff will continue to be engaged with the search command and will continue to lead the criminal investigation.

A large amount of evidence has been collected, including many of Travis Decker's personal items found inside his truck, which was recovered at the scene.

Blood samples taken from the scene came back positive for a male. However, some recovered blood samples were identified as not being human. Further DNA and fingerprint analyses are still being conducted, authorities said.

Travis Decker's dog was recovered and turned over to the humane society for safe care.

It is not yet known if the blood samples from the scene that were identified as not being human belonged to the dog.

While the CCSO did not detail the new search areas for Travis Decker in Monday's press release, it was announced that crime scene evidence has revealed more information.

To date, hundreds of square miles have been searched by land, water and air.

"We understand the frustration many citizens have in not having all of the details of this investigation," the CCSO wrote in Monday's press release. "During any criminal investigation, including this one, there is law enforcement sensitive information that is not shared with the public in order to protect the integrity of the investigation."

On Monday morning, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office announced it had joined the search for Travis Decker.

"Snohomish County Sheriff's Special Operations, in coordination with the Snohomish County Region 1 SWAT team and Air Support Unit, have come together in a unified effort to support our partners at the Chelan County Sheriff's Office who are working to locate suspect Travis Decker and bring him to justice," announced the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.

Also included in Monday's press release were the results of the autopsy completed last Friday, which determined the cause of death to be suffocation and the manner of death to be homicide.

I was wondering just yesterday if they could involve the feds on this, whether state lines had been crossed, some other things. Of course any agency can ask them for certain types of help but having them take over is a bit different. I'm glad they've done that with the search, etc.

I suspect or would hope they might have an idea or general one of where he is. And perhaps would not let the public know (would also tell him if he has access to any way to find out).. At least they continue to tell people to keep their doors locked and so on but they did release a part of the area right...?

This man could still end up killing himself but I don't think he's the type. In a last stance perhaps he would.

I hate to say it but prison would give him that roof over his head he hasn't been able to manage. It's not going to give him the freedoms he'd likely want though.

I wonder where they found the dog. If it's safe I'd hope the blood wasn't from the dog. Perhaps from hunting.

I'm just responding to the post with thoughts.

He needs to be caught.
