Three missing girls in Wenatchee found dead, father still missing

Three missing girls in the Wenatchee area were found dead, according to the Wenatchee Police Department.

According to the police department, police responded to reports of a civil complaint when the mom of three young girls reported that her daughters did not return after a planned visitation with their father.

Police said Decker was believed to be living out of a white 2017 GMC Sierra pickup, which was last seen heading west on Highway 2 from Wenatchee on May 30.

WSP was contacted Friday night for an Amber Alert request, but Wenatchee Police said it did not meet the required criteria, and an Endangered Missing Person Alert was issued.

Law enforcement eventually found Decker's car unoccupied near the Rock Island Campground.

Other officers searched the immediate area and found the bodies of the three missing girls.

Decker is wanted for three counts of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping. Police do not know if Decker is currently armed, but he may still pose a significant risk, according to police.

At first I thought it was pretty likely he self-ended in the same area. But now knowing more about his history, he has mountain survival skills from the Rangers.

Who is Travis Decker? What to know about the Wenatchee, WA father wanted for murder

According to authorities, he is a former military member with extensive training.

FOX 13 Seattle confirmed with a spokesperson with the Washington National Guard that Decker was a member.

He transferred to the organization in 2021 from the Active Component – and has been pending a disciplinary discharge for not showing up to his monthly drills. The last drill he attended was about a year ago.

Travis Decker shows up in several social media posts from current and past members of the armed forces. Based on FOX 13 Seattle’s review of those accounts and other social media profiles, Decker likely has advanced infantry combat training. Multiple Facebook and Instagram posts show Decker show he was an airborne paratrooper who earned his elite ‘Ranger’ tab – meaning he has elite wilderness evasion and survival skills. A different social media profile under his name claims he qualified as an instructor at the US Army’s National Guard Warrior Training Center at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Manhunt continues in Chelan County woods for military-trained father accused of killing daughters

The search continues for 32-year-old Travis Decker, who is accused of killing his three young daughters at a campground near Leavenworth. Authorities warn that his advanced military training could help him survive for months in the remote wilderness.

Decker’s survival skills, which he gained during a 2014 deployment to Afghanistan, are proving to be obstacles for search teams. However, law enforcement is hopeful he will be spotted. The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office released a photo depicting his tattoos.

The sheriff’s office is also asking citizens who own cabins or live near remote areas of Chelan, Kittitas, King, Snohomish, and Okanogan counties to be aware Decker is on the run.

“We are asking for those owners to lock all of their doors, to include any sheds, outbuildings, and leave their window blinds open, and we recommend leaving outside lights on,” the agency stated.

A former U.S. Army Ranger with specialized training in mountain warfare and wilderness survival, Decker is believed to have escaped into the thick forests of central Washington. The bodies of his daughters, Paityn (9), Evelyn (8), and Olivia (5), were found Monday near his abandoned vehicle at the Rock Island Campground in Wenatchee.

Search crews from the FBI, U.S. Marshals, Border Patrol, Homeland Security, and the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office are continuing an intensive ground and aerial search with helicopters, drones, and tracking teams.

“He’s specifically trained in mountain warfare,” crime reporter Steve Hickey said. “They are extremely concerned about what this man is capable of. According to his training, he is able to sustain himself for months on end, and he is capable of continuing on.”

Sheriff Mike Morrison confirmed during a press conference Wednesday that Decker is “well-versed in wilderness survival,” and that law enforcement believes he may have taken gear from his vehicle before vanishing into the forest.

“We are unsure if Mr. Decker is currently alive, so we are taking it that he is still out there,” Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said. “We will not rest until we’ve located him, whether he’s alive or he’s dead, we want to make sure he’s brought back.”

A $20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to Decker’s arrest. Authorities ask anyone with relevant tips to call the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 509-667-6845 or submit tips online.

Yeah sometimes I do, but in this one I just didn't feel he killed himself necessarily. You put your 3 girls in one area but then you can't be found. Why wasn't he there or nearby, just did not feel right. So many of them don't kill themselves. Plus it is summer, and things like that, not as hard to survive, even someone picking him up or him hitchhiking... Just didn't feel right or something. I was maybe 60/40.

Just as you said, now seeing his history, my gut was right. I really didn't have a reason other than what I just said, him being dead just didn't feel right. I felt he killed them and took off somehow.

I may never know why for sure but was my feeling.

I guess I can just also think of so many that killed their families but not themselves and so on. There are a few that also take themselves but they are usually all right there I guess. Even when it's wife too. In this case he didn't do that...

Clearly wasn't doing what he should have been doing to even see these children. Typical. Anger management, all those things. WTH is wrong with our courts? A very unstable man allowed to take his children. I'm sorry, it just shouldn't happen

Court records reveal custody issues for man at center of a national manhunt

The recording from the last custody hearing in Chelan County Superior Court between Whitney Decker and her ex-husband, Travis Decker, who is now at the center of a national manhunt, paints an insightful and sometimes eerie glimpse into the months that led up to the brutal murders of their three young daughters—Olivia, 5 years old, Evelyn, 8 years old, and Paityn, 9 years old

In September 2024, both parties stood in front of a judge requesting their court-approved parenting plan, in place since March 2023, be temporarily amended. According to the recording, while both parties presented motions to request their proposed changes, the judge decided not to consider the motion presented by Travis Decker, who represented himself, after Whitney Decker’s attorney objected, saying he failed to file the motion correctly and did not serve Whitney Decker. Judge Robert Jourdan agreed, and both parties, instead, presented their arguments for and against Whitney Decker’s motion to amend the plan.

Whitney Decker’s attorney, Arianna Cozart, asked Judge Jourdan to temporarily take away Travis Decker’s overnight custody rights after expressing concern that changes in his personal life presented significant safety risks for their three children, including having them stay with him at a National Guard armory.

“The children were sleeping at the armory where there are obviously dozens of other men present, and the children were left at least once while Mr. Decker went to the Safeway,” Cozart said. “They are too little and, quite frankly, they shouldn’t be staying in the armory anyway.”

Cozart also told the court Travis Decker owed Whitney Decker thousands of dollars in child support and was homeless and living out of his truck, or motels, or friends’ homes. Cozart also requested Judge Jourdan order a domestic violence evaluation and a full psychiatric assessment.

In response, Travis Decker acknowledged his struggle with housing instability and described the challenges he faced transitioning from his career in the military, where he served as an Army Ranger, into civilian life.

“When I was separated from active duty, I tried to figure out how to live as a civilian,” he said. “I didn’t have family, friends, or any support—especially moving to a state where I had no one to lean on or even a couch to sleep on.”

Travis Decker also told the court, in order to provide overnight shelter, he would often take his daughters camping.

“I don’t believe that my weekends should be completely taken away since I have been gone,” Travis Decker said. “Every time I’ve had the girls we have been in campsites and national forests and paid campsites that have campers, we’ve never done anything that was unsafe or anything I wouldn’t want to put myself in.”Do

At the end of the almost 30-minute hearing, Judge Jourdan granted Whitney Decker’s motion and temporarily amended the couple’s parenting plan. However, Travis Decker refused to sign any court documents.

The judge told Travis Decker signing the documents was up to him, but his order would be legally binding with or without his signature. Travis Decker also refused to attend any domestic violence psychiatric evaluations and assessments. Seven months later, Chelan County deputies found the bodies of his children at a campground 18 miles west of Leavenworth.
Doesn't surprise me one bit he owes tons of child support.

If he wouldn't do things ordered or sign such, he shouldn't have had ANY right to see them imo.

I have respect for veterans but it sure does not mean all are good people. WHY did he move somewhere without any support and why didn't he have any? Probably a reason for that. Burned bridges and former problems?

Just speculating. Vets can be hired over others, did he even try for work?

SMFH. Just catching up on many posts.

It worries me he hasn't been found and that he may have revenge in mind. I hope the ex and the judge plus any other family involved have adequate protection.

Boy that's a thought. The wife should be protected. I think more likely he wants to not get caught but who knows.

And he may have killed self and just not been found but seems like more likely he is hiding and avoiding capture. Could be either of course but I lean towards the last.

Sadly there aren't court issues left as to the divorce and custody with what he did. Back child support is probably all. I don't say it a lot but I think it's a motive quite often too, to end support and be tied for years to come, the same with men who kill a pregnant gf quite often.

They are stupid though, almost always end up caught.

Yeah hopefully the mother is somewhere safe.

Here's a link to the Enchantments. First thing i noticed is it says no dogs allowed. (He was thinking of getting rid of his dog, one of the articles said, so he clearly planned this.)

Second thing I noticed is the area is closed for a local law enforcement operation (the manhunt presumably).

It's an amazingly beautiful (and extremely remote) area. The "Enchantments" alone, not counting surrounding trails, gets over 100,000 visitors a year.
Overnight camping is restricted to permits. Rangers in the area check those who are staying overnight for permits. (Not that I think he's just hanging out waiting to chat with a Ranger.) Over 40,000 people apply for permits every year and only about 2,000 are awarded.
There are plenty of areas without snow right now, but if anyone goes in deep, or up above about 5,000 feet, there will be a ton of snow to contend with.

They've also closed parts of the Pacific Crest Trail, which is a continuous trail from Mexico to Canada.

hmmmm and no one has heard of the dog turning up loose or at a shelter???
Fb rumor is that it turned up at a local shelter. I can't link as I don't have fb but saw a post linking to it on Twitter. So take it for what it's worth. They had the shelter pic with a pic of the dog and it did appear to be the same dog and I now can't find it on my Twitter feed.

Veterans get free or discounted passes to state parks and many areas, like 2000 federal recreational areas and so forth. On top of that each state often offers them their own or more. Just an FYI.

Travis Decker searched ‘how to relocate to Canada’ days before allegedly killing his 3 daughters

Travis Decker was apparently already planning something at least a week before he allegedly killed his three little girls — Googling “how to relocate to Canada’’ and “jobs Canada,’’ according to new court papers.

Decker, 32, conducted the online searches and visited the Canadian government’s “Find a job” webpage on Monday, May 26 — several days before he vanished with his daughters, Deputy US Marshal Keegan Stanley wrote in an affidavit.

Travis Decker believed to be on Pacific Crest Trail; residents advised to lock doors

As the manhunt for Travis Decker moves into his fourth day, the intensity in apprehending him has intensified.

Authorities believe Decker may be traveling along the Pacific Crest Trail. Park officials closed a wide portion of hiking trails in the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area within the Cascade Range late Thursday as the search continued.

Earlier Thursday, officials closed the popular network of hiking trails known as the “Enchantments.” The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office has also advised residents in the county to lock their doors and remain vigilant.

Leavenworth (middle right) is the nearest town.
Enchantments area is clearly marked.
Access to Pacific Crest Trail is West. Hard to see, but it's the squiggly, dotted line on the left side.

From this it looks like mom and dad got along and she had even offered to give the dog a home

Part of his research should have told him you need an id to enter Canada.

I suppose it's possible that he may have some falsified documents or ID.
If he's trying to cross using the PCT he's gonna have a hard time as well. They stopped allowing crossings there earlier this year and the area is heavily monitored.
He's going to have to find a different, more remote crossing point. If that is indeed his goal.

Seems unusual when I think a post above said she had been seen behavior. I believe there was such anyhow. She also limited his visitation. However, perhaps like some decent people, for her kids she hoped he would get on his feet and it was a nice thing to offer for the dog. He sure did not do her or the girls right in return.
