“As I moved closer, I could hear somebody making noise and yelling. I started to get close to the building and climbed into the debris, and I could hear him saying that he was over there, and I could see his arm sticking up through the debris and waving his hand,” Nicholas Balboa, a man from Phoenix, told CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith” on Thursday night.

“He was just saying, ‘Please don’t leave me, please don’t leave me.’ I told him that we weren’t going to leave him,” Balboa said. “It was myself and one other person. So, we were there and we just felt like we could get to him. It didn’t feel right to just leave him, especially hearing that his voice was just so young.”

Balboa was in Surfside, Florida, to visit his father when Champlain Towers South building crumbled early Thursday. According to NBC News, authorities were called about the collapse around 1:30 a.m. ET

I am not finding the stats requirements for high rise buildings, but am seeing how they are required for just plain houses that are within a certain distance from the shore.

I also went back a bit in time on Google Earth and I found an image that I could see how the construction next door could have been of concern for the residents. Their parking garage is under the pool and look just how close to the pool's foundation the construction was!

and now it's official that they are inquiring about this

While there is a standstill, the Mayor of Surfside stated there needs to be communication about how to proceed & if the structure is the issue let's get it down and continue.

Emergency workers heard the voice of a woman trapped under the rubble of the South Florida condo collapse hours after the disaster, officials said -- but they were unable to find her.

During Thursday morning's press conference, Miami-Dade Fire Chief Alan Cominsky said rescuers heard the voice of a woman during initial search and rescue efforts after the collapse as they sifted through the debris, but were ultimately unable to locate her.

He told the outlet that though they never made visual contact, they tried verbally reassuring her that they were going to get her out of there -- but said a wall of concrete, metal rebar and a dumpster were in their way.

The worker told WPLG that crews never abandoned their effort to free the trapped woman, and communicated with her for "about 10 to 11 hours after the collapse." He said she told them her parents were also trapped next to her.

But when a fire broke out and forced the crews to move back, "we know she passed," he told the outlet.

That is so awful that words can't describe.

They can try to cover it up all they want but they are screwed. They are completely at criminal fault as far as I am concerned.
I am convinced most of it was human error after looking at the other building. The difference in the surface maintenance was glaring so I can just imagine what the other maintenance was lacking.

I hope they died instantly. That's sounds so bad to say, But I thought of that after my scare with Oreo because I couldn't go in with her and if she was going to die. I didn't want it to be without me wondering where I was.

Evacuation ordered for condo in North Miami Beach

The North Miami Beach Building Department ordered the evacuation of the Crestview Towers Condominium because of unsafe structural and electrical conditions, WSVN reported.

The evacuation took place several miles north of the Champlain Towers South condominium in Surfside, which partially collapsed on the morning of June 24.

Now places are on top of it. Arrogance and ignoring can be catastrophic. They learned that too late. Or have they?. All this passing blame makes me doubt it.
