What we know about Caden

Family members and friends have shared some details about the missing teenager with TV20 and on social media.
His family owned Simple Life Farms, a U-pick blueberry farm in the Dunnellon area. We’re working to confirm whether the truck Caden was driving was connected to the farm.
Caden was also apparently involved in the rodeo circuit. SouthEast Little Britches Rodeo Association, a youth rodeo association for kids ages 5 - 18, posted a prayer for Caden and his family.

Amber Alert issued for 17-year-old Caden Speight after he was shot and kidnapped by four hispanic men in Dunnellon Marion County 128th Avenue and SW 484 Florida

“Mom, I need help. Four Hispanics in a white van — one driver. I’m shot.” Those were the chilling final words 17-year-old Caden Speight sent in a text message to his mother, Annie Speight, on the afternoon of Thursday, September 25, 2025.
Moments later, Caden’s phone was discovered broken in half.
Since then, he has not been seen or heard from, and authorities say this is not a case of a runaway but an active abduction and Amber Alert that has triggered an intensive multi-agency search effort.

Joshua Vowinkel told Channel2 NOW that he is the UPS driver who serviced the area earlier today. He reported making a delivery at 11795 SW Highway 484 around 1 p.m. During his stop, he observed four Hispanic men working on a roofing job at the property, along with a white van present at the scene.
According to Vo, the men were on a lunch break at the time and responded to his greeting with aggressive remarks in Spanish while giving him hostile looks. He stated he did not think much of the interaction until learning about the ongoing investigation.
Vo added that the homeowner’s name is Nika and hopes this information will assist authorities.

A large crime scene has been established near 128th Avenue and SW 484, where investigators recovered the damaged phone and are processing evidence connected to the abduction.
Law enforcement agencies have launched a massive search operation spanning multiple counties.
Both Marion County and Citrus County Sheriff’s Office aviation units are conducting aerial sweeps using grid-search patterns — slow, overlapping flight paths about one mile apart — covering a 30-mile radius.
Marion County has deployed its Bell 206A Jet Ranger helicopter, specifically equipped for search-and-rescue missions. On the ground, search teams with K-9 units are combing through wooded areas, rivers, and ditches.
Authorities emphasize that this is a critical stage of the investigation, and public assistance is urgently needed.
Community members are urged to continue sharing Caden’s missing person flyer and to report any tips or sightings immediately.
If you see Caden Speight, the suspects, or the vehicle believed to be involved, DO NOT APPROACH. Call 911 immediately.

This is an active and ongoing Amber Alert investigation, and authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant.

I'm seeing posts on X that are leading toward a hoax situation. Either way, this young man needs to be located.

Through the investigation of the reported shooting, detectives said there is no evidence to support initial reports that the teen was taken by four men in a light-colored van. Instead, they believe Speight left SW Highway 484 on a black bicycle.

According to the sheriff's office, Speight may also have a red and grey tent that he bought from the Walmart on SW 19th Avenue Road in Ocala.

"Initial information was later determined to be inaccurate; however, we always give everything we have until the investigation takes us into a different direction," Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods said in a statement.

"I appreciate the many citizens who gave us tips and information to help my detectives. Understand, I will continue to have all of my available resources committed to locating this young man," Sheriff Woods added.

MEthinks he must have had a plan and then saw the roofers and used them in his story. His texting his mom instead of calling her or 911 in that situation makes no sense at all to me for this to have happened the way he described.

Yes, you caught that straight away!

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an Amber Alert on Thursday evening for a 17-year-old. But at noon on Friday, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said the teen remained missing but that the original claim appeared to be not true.
A short time later, deputies announced the teen had been located. The Williston Police Department said officers located him in Levy County, northwest of Ocala.

FDLE said the teen might have been taken by or was in the company of four unknown males, but determined that was likely not true.
"Detectives obtained information and collected evidence that are unsupportive of the initially reported facts," MCSO said in an update on Facebook.
Instead, MCSO believes the teen left the incident location on a black bicycle with a red and grey tent, which he purchased at Walmart on SW 19th Avenue Road, in Ocala.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office shared on Thursday that it was investigating a shooting around 4 p.m. in the same location where the teen was last seen.
When deputies arrived, they located a vehicle that belonged to the teen, but he was not present.
WESH 2 spoke with a witness named Jackson McClure on Friday morning.
"I passed by here around 4 o'clock and there was a boy, young man believed to be the guy they're looking for, getting something out of the truck and shoving it into a bookbag and then bout 10-15 mins later I believe he drove by my house on a bicycle," McClure said. "I called Marion County non-emergency line and told them what I had seen, and they said, 'thank you very much, that's very helpful'"
McClure went on to say:
"The police did ask me if he was bleeding as he went by, and i told them no, he looked normal, and he wasn't struggling to ride his bicycle."
