This girl was a victim of serial killer Gary Ridgway, the Green River Killer. She was found on January 2, 1986 near Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn. Her remains were found with two other victims. She was between 14 and 18 years old. Ridgway did confess to killing her, It is believed she was killed elsewhere and then dumped near the cemetery. It is likely that Ridgway killed her in 1983.

Jane “Auburn” Doe

On Jan. 2, 1986, almost two years after the discovery of Jane “Burien” Doe, another set of young female remains was found in King County; this time near Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn, Washington. Investigators believe she was strangled sometime between 1982 and 1984.

Jane “Auburn” Doe was between the ages of 14 and 18, Caucasian and stood five-feet-six inches tall. Again, no personal belongings or clothing were found with her body to help in the identification process.

Investigators are still actively searching for the identities of both young women. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has created facial reconstructions in the hope that someone will recognize them.

If you have any information regarding the identities of either Jane “Burien” Doe or Jane “Auburn” Doe, please call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-263-2130 or the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s 24-hour hotline at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678). Gary Leon Ridgway (born February 18, 1949) is an American serial killer known as the Green River Killer. He was initially convicted of 48 separate murders and later confessed to nearly twice that number. As part of his plea bargain, an additional conviction was added, bringing the total number of convictions to 49, making him the most prolific American serial killer in history according to confirmed murders. He murdered numerous women and girls in Washington State during the 1980s and 1990s.[1] Most of his victims were alleged to be prostitutes and other women in vulnerable situations, including underage runaways. The press gave him his nickname after the first five victims were found in the Green River before his identity was known.[2] He strangled the women, usually by hand but sometimes using ligatures. After strangling them, he would dump their bodies in forested and overgrown areas in King County, often returning to the dead bodies to have sexual intercourse with them.[3]

On November 30, 2001, as he was leaving the Kenworth truck factory where he worked in Renton, Washington, he was arrested for the murders of four women whose cases were linked to him through DNA evidence.[3]As part of a plea bargain wherein he agreed to disclose the locations of still-missing women, he was spared the death penalty and received a sentence of life imprisonment without parole.

AUBURN JANE DOE B-17: WF, 14-19, Gary Ridgeway victim found in King County, WA - 2 January 1986 IUI0KJg

Since their discovery in 1985, Major's remains have been referred to as Jane Doe B16, or bones 16. It was the 16th set of unidentified remains found, authorities said. Three sets of remains remain unidentified.

Major's remains were found down a steep embankment on the outskirts of Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn on Dec. 30, 1985, according to court filings in Ridgway's case.

After Ridgway's arrest in 2001, then-King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng agreed he would not seek the death penalty against him in exchange for his cooperation in locating the remains of dozens of victims. Ultimately, Ridgway admitted to nearly 70 slayings, but at the time prosecutors said they had evidence linking him to only 48 cases.

When questioned in 2003 as part of his plea agreement, Ridgway "claimed that he could not recall any specifics" about Major or another set of remains found nearby. Ridgway told investigators that he killed one of the victims, then killed a 16-year-old girl identified as Kimi-Kai Pitsor, and then killed another woman.

The three sets of remains were found around the cemetery; Ridgway pleaded guilty to all three. Until now, Pitsor was the only one of the three who had been identified.

The third victim's remains found near Mountain View Cemetery have not been identified. She is believed to be a Caucasian female in her teens, court filings said.

In February 2011, Ridgway pleaded guilty to a 49th homicide, admitting to a packed Kent courtroom that among his first victims was a 20-year-old prostitute named Rebecca "Becky" Marrero. She was last seen walking out of a SeaTac motel Dec. 3, 1982.

Most of Ridgway's victims were young runaways, prostitutes or drug addicts picked up on Pacific Highway South.

Mystery still surrounds three Ridgway victims, whose remains have been found but never identified. Ridgway implied that the three were killed in spring or summer 1983.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the remains belonged to:

• A white female, possibly as young as 12; found March 21, 1984, in the Burien area off Des Moines Memorial Drive South.

• A white female, between 14 and 17; found Jan. 2, 1986, near Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn.

• A white female, between 16 and 20; found July 2003, in a wooded area along Kent-Des Moines Road.

Also in 2003, Ridgway claimed to have killed three other women — Kelly Kay McGinness, 18; Kassee Lee, 16; and Patricia Osborn, 19 — whose remains have never been found. He wasn't charged in their slayings because of a lack of sufficient evidence.

Ridgway is serving a sentence of life without parole at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla.

Jane Doe "B16" and Jane Doe "B17" (Counts XXVII and XXVIII)

On December 30, 1985, two years after Kimi-Kai's skull was found, Task Force

detectives returned to Mountain View Drive. A car had gone off the road and down a steep embankment several hundred yards from the place where Kimi-Kai's skull had been found. Two men employed at the cemetery went down to look at the wrecked car and discovered what appeared to be human bones. When the Task Force detectives arrived, they immediately realized that this was another dumpsite. The bones found by the cemetery workers were obviously not those of Kimi-Kai Pitsor (they found another skull).

For the next week, detectives scoured the hillside in search of further evidence. When the search was over, they had found a total of three sets of skeletal remains. One of the remains proved by radiographic examination to be the rest of Kimi-Kai Pitsor. The other two bodies, despite extensive efforts, remain unidentified. They have been designated Jane Doe "B16" and Jane Doe "B17."

Although these skeletal remains have not been identified, both were young women. A forensic anthropologist's examination revealed that Jane Doe "B16" was an African-American woman between the age of twenty and twenty-five. She was approximately 5'1" to 5'4" tall.

Her body had been placed along a large fallen log.

Some 40 to 50 feet uphill east from Jane Doe "B16" were the remains of Jane Doe

"B17." She was lying at the foot of a very large rotten stump on the peak of a ridge. The forensic anthropologist concluded that she was a Caucasian, between 5'4" and 5'8" tall. She was between fourteen and seventeen years old.

Two hundred and fifty yards to the west of these two young women, detectives found the remains of Kimi-Kai Pitsor. She was located about 100 yards from Mountain View Drive and approximately 100 yards from where her skull was found.

Over the course of the next fifteen years, numerous attempts were made to identify the two young women found along Mountain View Drive. Leads relating to Kimi-Kai's disappearance were likewise investigated but never led any further than the tentative identification of defendant Ridgway. The cases remained open, but "cold."

In 2003, as recounted in the previous section, Ridgway admitted murdering Kimi-Kai Pitsor and dumping her at the Mountain View site. When he was questioned about the other two unidentified remains, he claimed that he could not recall any specifics about them other than to say that he thought he killed one of the women before Kimi-Kai and one after her. Ridgway said that he staggered their bodies along the hillside which was consistent with the way the remains were found.

The Task Force designated these unidentified remains in the order in which they were discovered as: "Bones 16" and "Bones 17." In this document, these victims are referred to as Jane Doe "B16" and Jane Doe "B17."

Green River Killer Gary Ridgway's statement to the court
Wednesday, November 5, 2003 Posted: 9:40 PM EST (0240 GMT)

SEATTLE, Washington (CNN) --Green River Killer Gary Ridgway pleaded guilty Wednesday to 48 counts of aggravated murder as part of a plea-bargain in which he submitted a written statement that was read aloud in court by prosecutor Jeff Baird:

The Judge has asked me to state what I did in my own words that makes me guilty of these crimes. This is my statement:

I killed the forty-eight (48) women listed in the State's second amended information.

In most cases, when I murdered these women, I did not know their names. Most of the time, I killed them the first time I met them and I do not have a good memory for their faces. I killed so many women I have a hard time keeping them straight.

I have reviewed information and discovery about each of the murders with my attorneys, and I am positive that I killed each one of the women charged in the Second Amended Information. I killed them all in King County. I killed most of them in my house near Military Road, and I killed a lot of them in my truck, not far from where I picked them up. I killed some of them outside. I remember leaving each woman's body in the place where she was found

Count XXVIII (28):

In King County, Washington, sometime between December 1, 1982 through December 31, 1985, with premeditated intent to cause her death, I strangled an unidentified woman referred to as Jane Doe "B17" to death. I picked her up, planning to kill her. After killing her, I left her body near Mountain View Cemetery.

Unidentified Victims
Gary Ridgway admitted to killing of all of these women, but could not supply any significant information that would assist in the identification of these women. The clay reconstructions were done by National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to assist us in identifying the women. Hair styles are only a ‘best guess’.
