Search underway for missing pregnant woman in Houston

Crews are searching Houston neighborhoods for a 23‑year‑old pregnant woman reported missing last week.

Houston police and Texas EquuSearch are part of the investigation.

By foot and ATV, searchers are looking for any clue that can lead them to Ashanti Allen, who is about eight months pregnant.

Ashanti was last seen at an apartment complex off Main Street near NRG Stadium. Family members told Ruiz they received a strange text from her in the middle of the night, saying she was not coming back.

They said it was odd because she left all her belongings at the apartment, including items for the baby.

Miller said she was having a lot of difficulties in her pregnancy and did not have her own car.

Ashanti was last seen in her mother’s vehicle, which has since been recovered and is now in police custody.

Miller said his crews are searching empty fields near her home.

“Not because we have good information, areas we are searching. There have been bodies dumped in that area before,” he said.

Still, they are holding on to hope they can find her alive and bring her home.

“We believe in miracles. We have many of them. The miracle would be if we can get her back alive,” Miller said.

We reached out to HPD to find out who dumped the vehicle and where it was found, but the police could not release additional information.

Court records show Ashanti was a victim in a family‑violence case a few months ago with a man she was dating. Police could not confirm at this moment if he is involved in her disappearance.

Pregnant Woman Texts Mom ‘I’m Leaving’ and Disappears from Home, Leaving Hospital Bag and Baby Clothes Behind

Authorities in Texas are seeking information on the whereabouts of a missing 23-year-old woman who is eight months pregnant.

Texas EquuSearch, a non-profit volunteer search and recovery organization, announced on Monday, April 13, that it is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the rescue or recovery of Ashanti Allen and her unborn child.

“Ashanti's safety is highly concerning due to being 8 months pregnant and experiencing a high-risk pregnancy,” the group wrote. “It is unknown what clothing Ashanti was wearing at the time of her disappearance.”

Allen's mother Trisa Gaines told NBC affiliate KPRC that she last saw her daughter on Wednesday, April 8. The 23-year-old took her mother to a medical appointment, then returned to their shared apartment complex on Main Street near NRG Stadium.

Allen’s family told CBS affiliate KHOU that Allen’s disappearance is out of the ordinary given that she has experienced a complicated pregnancy and is due to give birth in May.

Gaines said that she received an unusual text message from her daughter on Friday, April 10, which was her last contact with Allen.

"On April 10 around 3:50 that morning, a text sent to me: 'I am leaving, not coming back,' " Gaines told KHOU. “I didn't believe that she sent that."

The mother also told KPRC that after receiving the chilling text, she went to Allen’s apartment and knocked on the door, but no one was there. According to KPRC, the mother and daughter live in separate apartments in the same building within the complex.

When she did gain access to the apartment, Gaines said Allen’s clothes and the baby’s were still there. "All her stuff was there, baby clothes there, nothing was taken. The bag she packed for the hospital still sitting there," she told KHOU.

She was alarmed to find that the family's vehicle, a white Lincoln SUV, was missing, too.

So where was this man, that she had had a prior domestic violence altercation, at the time that the text came through? That’s the question.

‘Time’s not on our side’: Search expands for missing pregnant Houston woman Ashanti Allen

The search is intensifying for a missing Houston woman who is eight months pregnant, as volunteers and investigators expand efforts near the area where she was last seen.

23-year-old Ashanti Allen has now been missing for six days. Her family says they are growing increasingly concerned and desperate for answers.

Texas EquuSearch set up a command post Tuesday near Buffalo Speedway and Airport Boulevard, close to where Allen was last seen. The nonprofit search organization says it has significantly ramped up its efforts.

“We have done some banks of the bayous and the waterways and everything and you know we’ve mapped out many areas," said Miller.

Miller says crews have been searching since Sunday and are continuing to follow up on tips and leads, though none have led to Allen so far.

“Time’s not on our side,” Miller said. “We get more fearful that something has happened.”

Search teams spent Tuesday combing through wooded areas, brush, and nearby spaces, using drones and even ATVs.

Miller says while there is no confirmed evidence of foul play, there is also no indication Allen left on her own.
